Disability Services Ballina
Disability services Ballina help people with an intellectual, physical or sensory disability connect to their community. They include residential villages, respite care, personalised support and community transport.
Frontline staff in disability services have a strong intuitive sense of what good service quality looks like. This knowledge could be used to develop less abstract, more grounded quality standards.
NDIS
The NDIS provides funding for disability supports to help participants achieve their goals and live their best lives. These can include more time with family and friends, greater independence, access to new skills or jobs and more opportunities in their community. The NDIS is a national scheme that is financed by a levy on all Australians, which includes people with disabilities.
The Scheme is designed to give participants more control over their decisions and the flexibility to choose the support providers that suit them. It also provides a personcentred approach that allows for a flexible plan that can be changed as the participant’s needs change.
The NDIS Review will look at the design, operations and sustainability of the Scheme. It aims to put the participants at the centre of the NDIS and restore their trust, confidence and pride. It will also examine ways to make the market and workforce more responsive, supportive and sustainable. The review will be conducted by an independent panel of experts.
Residential Villages
If you are finding it difficult to maintain your own home, moving into a retirement village may be an option. These villages offer a range of different properties for rent or sale, with many facilities and services available to residents. They can be a good place to connect with people and socialise with friends. Some also offer day and evening activities, meals out, games nights and other events for residents.
When choosing a village, it is important to visit and talk to the manager and staff. They should be friendly, responsive and open to discussing any concerns or issues. Also, ask to see the village properties and communal areas.
Once you move into a village, you will need to have your care needs assessed by the Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT everywhere in Australia or ACAS in Victoria). You will also need to pay an entry contribution and periodic fees.
