DECEMBER 2014 / DIVISION 41 SOUTH / VOLUME III / ISSUE 11

EDITOR’S NOTE Woah, Kenny mentioned we only have four more months left! That means we have to find somebody to replace me. Hopefully, there will be someone at the beginning of the term unlike how I was appointed which was at the beginning of the school year. If there is not anybody to fill in, then I guess I could keep creating the newsletter until I go off to college. I wouldn’t mind it, although I don’t know what the Key Club Police would have to say about it. I’d like to welcome Aliso Hills to The Roar. This is the first time I’ve received content from them in my entire term, so I look forward to seeing them in my remaining newsletters and beyond. I’ve realized that I didn’t post last month’s newsletter to the Facebook pages. Sorry about that. So, I suppose this month you get a double feature of sorts. Although things have been heating up with so much work to do and so little time to do it in, I will try to improve some things regarding the newsletter in the coming month (there are some breaks coming up, so that will help). Other than that, keep submitting that quality content that I know you will produce. Stuff yourselves with tons of turkey,

LTG’S NOTE Hello, Lions! Welcome to the latest edition of The Roar, our very own monthly division newsletter! Can you believe that most of us are already through our third month of school? I know—crazy right? I hope the past few months haven’t been too hard on you. For seniors in particular, I wish you the best of luck on your college applications! If you ever need anything, trust me, I am going through the same thing right now and would be more than willing to help you with anything that you may need. Don’t forget that Key Club is always here to support you! Schoolwork aside, looking back at the past month, I am so amazed at everything we have accomplished thus far. From Region Training Conference to our latest Division Council Meetings to Fall Rally, I am so proud to serve this division, and I thoroughly hope that you are too. In addition, the amount of service performed within the past month has been absolutely insane, and after filling out my latest Monthly Report Form, I am ecstatic at everything that all of you have done so far. Continue to perform service and serve your homes, schools, and communities to the best of your ability. I have no doubts that it will pay off in the end. Thank you for everything that you have done so far, Lions! With only four more months left in this Key Club term, I know that we have what it takes to push the division to new heights!

ALISO HILLS Moulton Elementary Boo Blast Aliso Niguel High School's Key Club came together at Moulton Elementary as volunteers for their Boo Blast.

An overview of the festivities.

Volunteers performed a variety of tasks such as running the game and food booths, as well as helping to clean up and set up. The event was very organized and everyone seemed to enjoy their nice Saturday afternoon. Elementary school kids had a great time on the Ferris wheel, inflatable slide, and fun Halloween themed games. Volunteers helped where help was needed in order to give the kids and parents the best experience possible. The Boo Blast was, overall, an unforgettable and great event, and the Key Club volunteers enjoyed helping out immensely.

Our Second Key Club Meeting Our second meeting this year was an overall wonderful experience as Key Club members, old and new, came together to kick off some new events and hang out. The classroom we met in was completely filled with people, a large number of them underclassmen who had heard about Key Club through club rush. There was plenty of food to go around that various Key Clubbers brought, as well. Some of the main topics we went over during the meeting included events such as the PTP fundraiser, collecting Halloween candy for the troops, and the process of becoming an official member. I was able to talk to several prospective new members who wanted to make a difference in the community and really get involved in Key Club, and I have no doubt that this year will be a promising one with many new events and members.

PTP Fundraiser We raised money for the Pediatric Trauma Program in front of Pavilions this Saturday.

It was our first oďŹƒcial event of the school year, and we had a great turnout. We were able to spread the word about how young children are injured and how many deaths can be prevented. Many of us handed out flyers and explained to people about PTP. We had many generous donations made to the cause. Overall, the fundraiser was a success and raised awareness for a worthy cause.

MISSION VIEJO Kickin' Off the Year with Key Club The school year started off with blazing hot temperatures, but what made it even hotter was the official start of Mission Viejo High School's Key Club. On Wednesday, October 25th, returning members proudly represented Key Club during Mission's club rush. Royal blues, fierce lions, and enthusiastic smiles were constantly sported at our busy booth; it's no surprise that our spirited club members attracted the attention so many new faces. Several veteran club members, such as Michael Mabuni and Tyler Lloyd, courageously stood amidst the sea of curious students while waving the club's flag and stopped to answer any questions other students asked. Question's ranged from the usual: “Do you guys make keys?”, and, “So, can I use this community service for college?”. Despite these questions being repeated over and over again, club officers were still in good-spirits and patiently explained several aspects of the club, garnering a hefty amount of interested Diablos. The sweltering heat didn't stop the flood of students who were excited to join the club, and after the lunch bell rang signaling the end of club rush, every returning member knew that our club received a large amount of attention. The club rush turnout was a success, and now the club's next goal is to motivate all the new members to become active and spirited Key Clubbers!
