The Roar

JANUARY 2015 / DIVISION 41 SOUTH / VOLUME IV / ISSUE 1

EDITOR’S NOTE

It’s quite evil the way teachers try to make the last weeks before break as filled with work as possible. But, I am still alive and have come out with another newsletter. It’s now officially volume IV of The Roar and a new year! It’s been a privilege to have been able to edit the last year of issues, but I still have a couple more to complete, at least. Keep sending in content and have a wonderful something this holiday season.

LTG’S NOTE Hello Lions! Can you believe 2014 is already coming to a close? We have accomplished so much this year, and I am so proud of you all for your leadership and passion. From District Convention in Sacramento to our first Division Council Meeting at the March of Dimes or the numerous training conferences scattered throughout the year, 2014 was an undeniably spectacular year for Division 41 South. I would like to take a moment to thank all of you who were able to attend Fall Rally South at Six Flags Magic Mountain. I hope you all had an amazing, spirit-filled day and were able to fully immerse yourself in Key Club culture. In addition, I would also like to congratulate you all, because Fall Rally South was able to raise $88,547 for Pediatric Trauma Program! Thank you for your contributions, and remember that all of the work that you put in ultimately goes helps others and potentially save lives. As 2015 approaches, many of us will begin to consider our new years’ resolutions: to eat healthier, to get better grades, to exercise, to be happier, smarter, friendlier. Whatever your goals for the coming year may be, I encourage you to not forget about Key Club, to consider your clubs, your homes, schools, and communities, and your division. Happy Holidays from your LTG!

DANA HILLS Fall Rally The Key Club Fall Rally brought massive amounts of people from all over the region together and allowed Key Clubbers to interact with hundreds of other members who all came together to support a good cause. At the Fall Rally the different divisions took part in cheer battles and bid on the lieutenant governors of the different divisions using the money that they raised before Fall Rally. The lieutenant governors showed their creative sides by dressing wildly with props and tutus and some crowns. In attempts to further raise excitement and stir the crowd, lieutenant governors danced on stage and often times led the cheers of their divisions from the stage. The divisions battled it out with meticulously practiced cheers and high spirits as the money that was raised was elaborately donated through fun and games. The comradery felt among the attending Key Club members was strong and it showed just how massive the Key Club nation is which assures me that my small work may go unnoticed. But, it is quantified through the unnoticed work of other members so that our little work helps to feed the bigger, better movement.

Dana Point Turkey Trot On Thanksgiving morning, many arrived at Dana Point Harbor before the crack of dawn. During our shift, we helped distribute bibs to the runners who registered before the day of the race. There were people who came from the many cities of Orange County, different states, and even another country! Others also helped runners sign up for their races at the late registration booth. We had a lot of fun seeing so many families and friends come together on Thanksgiving morning to run with each other.

TRABUCO HILLS

Tour del Toro Run On November 7th and 8th at the Lake ForestSports Park, we helped out at the annual Tour del Toro Run. We woke up somewhat early on both days to help set up for the run and register incoming runners and cyclists, which was a fun and engaging experience. Plus, all of the volunteers got some very nice highlighter-yellow and jet black t-shirts, which is always nice! Interestingly, this was our first volunteer opportunity as a club that had many new members sign up and volunteer at, and so the run served as an awesome way to introduce the new members to what we do as Key Club. Also, it was very exciting and cool to see the area filled with volunteers, runners, and people just there to cheer everyone on. It also had a greater impact knowing that the entire event supported the newly founded Boys and Girls Club of the city. All in all, we had an enjoyable time at Tour del Toro, and we can’t wait to help out again next year.

Fall Rally Fall Rally was an exciting time for Trabuco Hills Key Club. Not only did we get to ride all of the roller coasters at Six Flags, but we also got to experience Key Club’s spirit to the fullest magnitude. Although we did not get to buy our LTG Kenny based off PTP funds, the deafening shouts of “How do you feel?” and the spirited and welcoming atmosphere made the whole experience worth it.
