Performances at St. Francis High School in Wheaton

Music & Lyrics by Lin-Manuel Mirands, Opetaia Foa‘i & Mark Mancina

Based on the 2016 Disney film Moana

Gina has been directing children’s theatre programs for over 30 years, and here in District 41 for almost 20 years. She loves sharing her experience, skills, and passion for the performing arts with children from preschool to high school Her goals as a director are to build individual children’s self-confidence, emphasize the importance of working with others as a supportive team, and learn all the elements of performing, while having the MOST fun! In addition to directing the Hadley Theatre Arts, Ben Franklin Drama, and Lincoln Theatre programs, Gina offers her own Backyard Drama Camps and private acting lessons. She is also the Director of Children’s Ministry at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church She is so honored and excited to be part of the D41 Kid’s Foundation production, and beyond proud of her amazing and talented cast of Moana! She would like to thank her incredible production team Kate Marsh, Marta Scarleski, and Karen Winter for all their work behind the scenes from the very beginning to the end of this process!! She would like to dedicate these performances to her amazing mother Julia, and her beloved son Anthony, who even while battling cancer, never forgets who he is, and who he is meant to be--she can't wait to see how far he'll go! ❤

Megan is an accomplished musician and skilled educator with over eight years of teaching music She holds degrees in music from Illinois Wesleyan University and the Ohio State University, as well as her Singing Health Specialization. She is passionate about nurturing her students' musical abilities while most importantly, having fun! Recently, Megan made the exciting move from Columbus, Ohio to the suburbs of Chicago Currently, she teaches private voice and piano at Wheaton Yamaha Music School. Megan is honored to be part of the D41 Kid's Foundation production of Moana. She is incredibly proud of this extraordinary cast for going above and beyond!

Maggie is a current Sophomore at Augustana College studying music education, music composition and vocal performance She is a former district 41 student who has performed under Gina Wood’s direction since kindergarten. Maggie continued participating in music and theatre at Glenbard West High School where she had her first experience vocal directing her senior year. This is Maggie’s second year as a vocal director for the D41 Kid’s Foundation She is thrilled to have the opportunity to give back to a program that fostered her love for the arts and is so proud to see how far this talented cast has grown throughout the rehearsal process!

D41 Kids Foundation is proud to present - Moana!

It is with great joy that I welcome you all to our annual summer musical theater production of Moana, providing the opportunity for any child to explore the world of theater regardless of skill or experience. We are very grateful for your enthusiastic support of this annual fundraiser and would like to express a special thank you to all our volunteers, without whose incredible devotion and hard work, none of this would be possible. In particular, I want to acknowledge our Vice Chair and Director of Fundraising, Marta Scarleski, whose brainchild it was to have an annual summer musical and whose hard work and organizational gift made this event a reality. Special thanks go to our board members, Kate Marsh and Karen Winter, who spent hours upon hours at rehearsals coaching children and coordinating the administrative tasks necessary to pull off this event. In addition, we are especially grateful to our amazing director, Gina Wood, whose knowledge, skill, talent and inexhaustible patience has guided 3 separate casts consisting of 140 children through a Polynesian adventure on the high seas.

For those of you who are new to the D41 Kids Foundation, we are a 501(c)3 nonprofit whose mission is to strengthen public education in District 41 through advocacy for, and partnership and investment in initiatives that promote equity, excellence, enhance student outcomes, and foster lifelong learning. In addition to our summer theater program, we fund a Dolly Parton Imagination Library for children birth to 5 years of age that live within the D41 school boundaries. Our Community Outreach program aims to meet the immediate needs of families in crises and coordinates Holiday Sharing, a program that helps to ensure our more vulnerable families receive toys, books, and groceries for the holidays. Our Supplies for Success program provides school supplies for children in need and Karen’s Closet provides winter outerwear for children whose families may struggle to afford proper cold-weather gear. We are committed to providing the children in our community all that they might need to succeed and thrive.

Please visit our website at www.D41Kids.org for more information.
