Dear Parents and Patrons,

Thank you for your support of the Jordan High School orchestra! On behalf of the faculty, staff, and administrative team, I would like to welcome you to this year’s concert season. The orchestra has prepared an exceptional concert, and you are sure to be pleased.
The fine arts department is a source of artistic pride for Jordan High School and our community. The performance opportunities given to our students are nothing short of remarkable. It is with great excitement and anticipation that we congratulate the Jordan High School Symphony on their invitation to the 78th Annual Midwest Clinic this December in Chicago, Illinois. We have no doubt that they will represent Jordan High School well on yet another national stage. We are particularly proud of those students who have represented our school beyond our performing arts center, whether it be a TMEA All-State ensemble or the Houston Youth Symphony. From earning Sweepstakes Awards at UIL Concert & Sightreading Evaluation to being named Outstanding Performer at the UIL State Solo & Ensemble contest, these students truly are extraordinary.
I am extremely proud of the student musicians who work so hard to practice and prepare for every rehearsal, audition, and performance. Special thanks go to Mr. Davis and Mr. Yam for their dedication to the students at Jordan High School.
Enjoy the performance!
Sincerely,
Dr. Ethan Crowell Head Principal

chestras. In its short existence, the orchestra has set a high standard of artistic achievement.
As individual performers, students in the orchestra have reached great heights. Members of the orchestra have performed with the TMEA All-State Orchestras at the annual Clinic and Convention in San Antonio, TX, TMEA All-Region Orchestras and the Houston Youth Symphony! March 2023, the Symphony Orchestra placed 1st in the Full Orchestra division of the National Orchestra Festival held in conjunction with the American String Teacher’s Association National Conference in Orlando, FL. In the fall of 2023 the Jordan High School Symphony Orchestra and the Jordan High School Sinfonia Orchestra were both named National Winners in the Mark of Excellence National Orchestra Honors project and the Jordan High School Sinfonia Orchestra was named 1st Runner-Up in the TMEA Honor String Orchestra Competition. All six of our string orchestras received Sweepstakes at UIL Concert and Sightreading Evaluation in Spring of 2024. And the Jordan High School Symphony has been invited to perform at the 2024 Midwest International Band and Orchestra Clinic in Chicago this upcoming December.
Thank you for joining us this evening! As the audience, you are an important part of tonight’s concert. The students of the Jordan High School Orchestra have worked hard to prepare for tonight’s performance. The audience’s responsibility at formal concerts is to honor the efforts of the performers by providing a listening atmosphere in which all can appreciate their performance.
To that end, we ask your cooperation:
• Please make sure all cell phones and electronic devices are turned off. Cell phones can interfere with wireless microphones and recording equipment, as well as creating unwanted noise.
• Please refrain from flash photography. This is very distracting to the performers and other audience members.
• While the performance is in progress, please remain seated and quiet. (If it becomes necessary to leave the auditorium, please do so between musical selections.)
• If very young children become restless and disrupt others' ability to listen, please take them from the auditorium until they are quiet.
• Please do not hum or clap along with the performers, unless specifically invited to do so.
• Show your appreciation for the performance by clapping after each selection.
We have all worked very hard to prepare an exceptional evening of music for everyone to enjoy. Thank you in advance for your assistance in helping this to be a wonderful experience for all of us!
Dear Parents and Patrons,
Welcome to this evening’s concert and thank you for joining us! We are excited to present our 2025 UIL String Orchestra Concert programs. Each orchestra has been working extremely hard and you are sure to be pleased.
The UIL process is one that both challenges and encourages. Students are given the opportunity to present their very best musical performances to a panel of three experienced orchestra directors from around the state of Texas. These adjudicators then assign a rating to the performance on a scale of I to V with a Division I (Superior) rating being the highest score.
Once the ensemble performs its concert portion of the evaluation the students travel to the Sightreading Room to perform for a second panel of judges. This time the orchestra is given 8-10 minutes to learn a piece they have never seen. After this brief practice period, the orchestra must perform the piece for a rating just as in the concert portion.
If the orchestra receives composite scores of Division I in concert and sightreading, the orchestra earns the coveted “Sweepstakes” award. While the process is extensive and the hours of preparation are demanding, the reward for a job-well-done is tremendous. We are excited to share our hard work with you and hope you enjoy the concert!
Warm regards,
Mr. Davis and Mr. Yam
