Starting Lines a few words

It's that time of year again to be thankful for all that we are blessed with. As a district we all should be thankful for such a great 2015 racing season in the district. Seems to me things are getting better and better. We should also be thankful for our board members and each division's chairpersons, vicechairs, points keepers, rider reps, clubs and promoters, etc. With the exception of the promoters, ALL of these positions are volunteered. Please keep that in mind next time you have a complaint, and give them special thanks, because without each of them, none of us would be here. So as as always, BIG HUGS and a heartfelt THANK YOU to this month's contributors. Your efforts are truly appreciated!! An extra special THANK YOU to everyone in the district that makes our sporting lifestyle possible, and Happy Thanksgiving to everyone in the land of District 14! ‘Til next time ... take care, stay warm, and as always, enjoy the ride... it all goes by in a blink.

DELIVERY

The delivery goal of District 14 News is normally around the middle of the month. However, due to varying factors of submissions, printing, and mailing, there is no guarantee the newspaper will reach readers by a specific date in the month. It is recommended and good practice to think at least 1 or 2 months ahead when promoting special events or other time sensitive dates. For example, if your special event is in August, you should consider promoting that event no later than the July edition.

Visions by Thomas Dunn, District 14 President

DISTRICT 14 NEWS!

I have been around the block a couple of times and have seen multiple District and organizational papers. I even wrote and was the photographer for Michigan Motorcyclist Magazine back in the early ‘80’s, for Phil Bean, the then District 14 paper. I can tell you we have one of the best around maintained strictly by our district. Former editor and past District 14 President Bart Newman, brought the paper to new levels, with his wife and himself working hard to provide a quality, well rounded newspaper when articles provided. The paper has become one of our Star's of the District! Step in Linda Roxbury! Early in the 2000’s the Board of Directors put the newspaper up for bids, after months of interviews and meetings with several papers and magazines, the Board decided to hire Linda Roxbury, this turned out to be a very good decision all the way around. Linda was already part of the District and has kept the prices of printing and mailing well in line for her tenure. The paper has been well-rounded, good articles and advertising, with each division normally represented. What is Your Responsibility? Recently, well over this past year especially, several District members have approached me about our newspaper. Some of you have been quite upset that your division was not represented well or not at all in one or more of our monthly additions. Having been yelled at, swore at, and told that they were not renewing their membership due to this, I've decided it was time to let everyone know that they control the representation their division gets.

I have encouraged each Divisional Chair to make sure that they write, or get someone to write about their divisional events. Remember these are all volunteers! This is where your responsibly comes in to play! If for any reason you feel that you're not being represented and/or the article does not cover the point of view you would like to see……..WRITE AN ARTICLE! We do not discriminate – all articles are welcome! We ask that articles be family friendly, as children read our paper. We ask that you are not derogatory to any person or division. We ask that you write about what you love, and that is our sport and racing no matter what discipline. Many of us write about our personal experiences, some write about the event, some write about the sport in general or write a technical article. It can be almost anything! Most of us are not professional writers. There is no right or wrong way of doing this, but you are the key to our success! Articles and photos are to be sent to linda@d14news.net Dead Lines – with some exceptions, generally the 25th of every month for the next month's paper. If you just remember that date, you'll be golden. No need to wait for a reminder! Pictures should be submitted in jpeg format, in the highest resolution possible. Please caption picture and give credit to the photographer.

MATTHEW SAPE JERRY LORENZ BULLDOG RIDERS MOTORCYCLE CLUB (Millington, MI) | October 11 Story and photos by Dave Moretuzzo So as I came down N Belsay Road, and drove over the small bridge that we have to cross to get to Bulldogs, and when I came up to the rise about a 1/2 mile from the entrance of the track, all I saw were brake lights! “Wow, is someone broken down blocking the road?” texted my friend in the truck behind me. I said “It’s probably someone trying to get out of the track on the one way driveway” ... wait a second, we made the driveway so people can go both ways in and out. “ I think this is the line to get in the front Gate!” he texted. As we moved forward, I was trying to think of another time I had to wait out on the road to enter the track, and couldn’t recall a date when we were hanging out just to get in the drive way! Well with almost 400 riders and more cars and trucks for spectators than I have ever seen at our track, I knew it was going to be a busy/great day. Bulldogs was holding the Michigan State Championship round of the Vintage Series and with the “Regular Racers” attending, the pits were uh-BUZZING with riders and their families and friends. 70 degrees and sunny tends to bring out Michigan D-14 MX racers in droves in the fall because we all know what’s right around the corner, or a DAY LATER in this State! I can’t speak for anyone else but, come around…January, OK…December, the day after Christmas, I’m done with the COLD and SNOW! I don’t race on the ICE, so please don’t send hate letters, and I like to SKI but, I would gladly drive to a hill /mountain where I can get the (ski fix) I’m looking for. Maybe I live in the wrong State, need therapy, or some sort of PILL, but I bet there are some of the people reading this that feel the same way I do? Motocross gets into your blood and when the weather trends towards winter it can be cruel to walk by your bike every day to go out and shovel the driveway of all that white stuff. You can only clean, buff, shine and trick out your bike so much before the reality of winter hits. The races went off without a hitch and I had multiple people come up to me and say how nice the track and grounds look. (Thanks club members and grounds guys for the hard work!) I didn’t take credit for any of it, honest. The track was in great shape with the rain that we had on Thursday before the race and the solid effort by our H2O Specialists for the extra water they laid down on Friday and Saturday. The new grass on the start line was well received also with only an occasional hit by the water truck to make it dust free and great traction to be had all day. We at Bulldogs M/C want to thank our sponsors, our members, but mostly we want to thank the RIDERS and their FAMILIES for coming out to race at our facility, because that’s why we work as hard as we do, to make the races as enjoyable and safe for everyone who attends our club. Don’t get too depressed though, SPRING will be here in no time!!

Saturday at Polka Dots

WHAT A FUN TRADITION!

William Dale (W) took both holeshots on his YZ 250 POLKA DOTS MOTORCYCLE CLUB (Midland, MI) | October 03 Story and photos by Steve Baginski

Polka Dots on a Saturday has become most of the racers favorite race of the season. We have been doing this for a few years now and it is a huge hit. The track has been perfect and our numbers continue to grow. It is a bit of a hectic morning but it goes very smoothly. We had some more great battles with new and old racers. It was a bit chilly but the track held up perfectly. This was round twelve of fourteen and some of the Championships are getting locked up while others will go down to the last race. There were some new names out for this race to add another factor of those outcomes. With the race being on a Saturday, we were able to give all the classes their own moto. The Evolution class was out first with William Dale taking the holeshot. Dean Howard and Ray Brooks were next with Mark Becker making his debut in fourth. Mark Havalda and Brad Barnes were next while Tommy Lee was left behind the gate with bike problems. William was off to an early lead leaving Ray and Dean to Battle for second. Becker was running a fast fourth as Brad took over fifth just ahead of Havalda. Mid way through lap two, Dean went down and dropped all the way to last as now Tommy was on the track. On lap three, William was way out front with Ray in a solid second. Becker was running third ahead of Tommy as he was a lap down. Havalda was back in front of Brad with Dean closing the gap. As they took the white flag, William was going to be hard to catch as Ray and Becker held down second and third. Dean was up to fourth and Brad was back ahead of Havalda. Coming to the finish, William took the win with Ray holding on to second with Becker rounding out the podium. Dean slowed down a bit but

 Eric Taylor improved with every lap on his way to seventh overall in Innovation

held on to fourth with Mark back into fifth with Brad in sixth. Tommy had the pace but starting a lap down, dropped him to seventh. William started off moto two where he left off in moto with another holeshot. Dean was a close second with Ray and Tommy fighting for third. Becker was right behind them with Brad and Havalda next. To start lap two, the top three were still close with William leading the way. Dean had a little gap over Ray as Tommy was holding off Becker. Brad and Havalda were back a little but wheel to wheel. With lap three under way, William was pulling away out front with the battle going to be for second. Dean was looking good for that spot as he was starting to put a little distance on Ray in third. Tommy was a solid fourth with Becker a close fifth. Havalda was ahead of Brad with hopes of holding on for the last lap and a half. With the white flag waiving, William was out front and looking at another moto win. Dean was redeeming his first moto fourth with a solid second. Ray was still giving chase but losing ground in third. Tommy was also in a better spot from the first moto and still holding off Becker while Havalda still had the edge over Brad. At the finish, William took his second moto win and the overall. Dean ended held on for second but Rays third was good enough for second overall dropping Dean to third overall. Tommy earned fourth but his first moto troubles put him back to fifth overall. Becker would end up fifth for fourth overall as Havalda and Brad would swap spots as well. Havalda would finish sixth for sixth

The Transition class is a fast one towards the end of the season with Al Doneth (839) taking both holeshots overall with Brad slipping back to seventh. The Iron Man Class was next with eleven racers and Brad Bolzman lead them through turn one. Mike Laczko was a close second as Vic Flegel and Philip Peyton fight-

ing for third. Rick Stone had a slight edge over Tom Claerhout, Randy stone and Joe Rader. Brandi Stone is gaining confidence and was just ahead of Brian and Nolan Briggs. As they came around to complete lap one, Mike was out front with Brad right on his rear wheel. Tom was a very close third with Vic and Rick also doing battle. Philip was next with Randy just ahead of Joe. Brian made his way into ninth followed by Nolan and then Brandi. A lap later, Mike was still holding down the lead but Tom was up to second and gaining speed. Brad was back to third as they opened up a little gap on Vic in fourth. Rick held down fifth as Randy was up to sixth with Philip back a spot in seventh. Joe was next while Brian was pulling a slight gap on Nolan the Brandi. As they came to get the white flag, Tom had taken over the lead as Brad also got by Mike for second. Vic was still in fourth followed by Rick then Randy. Philip was on the charge trying to hold off Joe as they were the last racers on the lead lap. Tom came by not too far back to take the first moto win. Brad rode great and was a close second with Mike losing a little time on the last lap in third. Vic had a good ride finishing fourth as Rick closed the gap in fifth. Randy lost some time on his rival Rick ending up sixth as Philip was able to hold off Joe for seventh. Brian held on to ninth with Nolan getting the edge over Brandi

in tenth. The moto two holeshot went to Mike with Vic a close second. Tom, Philip, and Joe were all side by side through turn one just ahead of Rick and Randy. Brian had a good start with Nolan right behind him as Brandi had stalled in the gate. She would get started but was disappointed in the gap she was now forced to try and make up. Brad was missing from the starting line as his bike died on the way to the line and could not get restarted. So his hard earned second in moto one was going to backed up with an unfortunate dns and drop him in the overall. The start of lap two had Mike still leading the way with Tom into second and Vic in third. Rick was back in fourth just ahead of Philip and then Randy. Joe slipped back to seventh as Nolan was up to eighth. Brian was a few seconds back as Brandi had stalled in the second to last turn. She was back up and going bat had lost even more time. Tom was the first rider to start lap three with Mike now back to second as they opened a gap back to third place Vic. Rick was in fourth but stalled it just after the finish section and Randy was quick to take over the position. Rick was able to do a quick restart and only lost the spot to Randy as Philip was now right behind them both. Joe came by next with a nice gap back to Brian and then No-

Randy still had his sights on Rick as Philip was putting Brandi a lap down as she had yet another stall. Joe was next with a big gap back to Brian as he came through the finish section just ahead of Tom to stay on the lead lap. Tom crossed with another moto win and the overall. Nolan was next locking him into ninth for ninth overall. Mike held on for second and second overall with Vic taking third and third overall with his 4-3. Rick took fourth after his stall and fourth overall with Randy going 6-5 for fifth. Philip couldn’t catch Randy and ended up sixth for sixth overall. Joe took seventh for seventh and Brian wound up eighth. The Innovation guys were next with Chad Morehouse taking the holeshot. Mike Poirier was a very close second as Kris Gillett was bar to bar. Lance Shelton was next followed by Dave Fink as Eric Taylor went down against the table top. Brad Barnes and Tom Lee narrowly missed Eric when he fell and Steve Adema was able to get around as well. Ryan Baeder was on the outside so he missed him as he was getting

PTR HARE SCRAMBLE RESULTS

PORTLAND TRAIL RIDERS (Portland MI) | October 11 Story by Heather Powers Photo courtesy of Joey Crown

October 11th was a beautiful day for a race. Thank you, hare scramblers, for coming out to Portland Trail Riders and supporting our track. We hope you felt challenged by our course layout and encouraged by the spectators. It was a great year! Now for some results. Joey Crown, Loretta Lynn’s 2015 250B champion, took the Overall Three Hour title. His win proves that motocross riders can cross over into the hare scramble world. If you’ve only ever rode motocross, let this encourage you to try a hare scramble or two. Come see a whole new side of motorsports, with its crazy obstacles and a completely different level of endurance. Well done, Joey! He was joined at the finish line by Shane Spangler, Ron Scharphorn, and Jeremy Zajac. You guys are incredibly fast. Congratulations to all 28 finishers. I get tired riding in a car for 3 hours…I have no idea how you keep it on two wheels for that long! First place honors in the Overall Team go to the Jones/Haught crew. They were followed by Kidner/Carpenter, Barclay/ Gallt, and Panger/Ashbaugh. Nice job! Overall Two Hour bragging rights go to Remington Verran. He was followed

across the finish line by Kyle Warren, Doulas Kelley, and Jason Roerig. Wow! Still can’t imagine riding 2 hours without stopping. This girl is impressed by your efforts! The Overall Mini winner was Bodie Diehl. He rode 5 laps in 58:05. He was in a tight battle with Ethan Johns who finished in 58:11 and Austyn Stemler was third with a time of 58:26. One of the best battles of the day, fellas! We hope you heard us cheering you on!

Expert-M winner Shane Spangler finished less than 10 seconds faster than the second through fourth place finishers. He bested Jeremy Zajac, Alexander Stein, and Jason Spangler. Great racing! Congratulations to Richard Levine for beating Steven Stein by one second in the Open A-3HR-A class. Another close battle! Wow! The Vet A 30+-V winner was Ron Scharphorn. He beat Mark Becker by a lap. Open B-3HR-B’s champ was Joey Crown. He was followed in by Dean Taylor, Paul Azar, and Thomas Cannon. The Vet B 30+-F class was dominated by Dean Mathews. Robert Ratliff, Jeffrey Harms, and James Johnson did their best to catch him while fiercely battling each other. Team A-H winners, Jones/Haught, and Team B-L winners, Long/Burt, show what can be achieved when you work together to get a job done. We’re looking forward to seeing who pairs up for next year’s races. There were more great battles in the 2HR Expert-E class. Kyle Warren took top honors, followed by Douglas Kelley and Jason Roerig. Remington Verran, Ezra Roerig, and Steve McDowell went 1/2/3 in Open B-2HR-Z.

Congrats to Tommy Downs for winning the C Junior 13-20-X class. Brandon Rose and Gavin Putnam both followed him over the finish in less than 10 seconds. That was a tight race! C Vet 21+-R winner was Paul Hamilton. He didn’t beat Bryan Hamilton by much, but Paul was faster that day! Super Senior 50+-SS honors go to Rodney Benjamin who was about 14 seconds faster than Kim Mahncke. Taylor Carpenter, our Womens PM-C winner, finished her 6 laps in less than 2 hours. Ethan Johns won the Mini 80-105c/1215y-W class, finishing 5 laps in just under an hour, beating Tracy Hall who finished the 5 laps in just over an hour. Another close one! In the Mini 66-85c/12-15y-J class Bodie Deihl won, beating Austyn Stemler, Colin Deems, and Trey Schrauben. The 7-11-Y class winner was James Nash. If there’s one phrase that comes to mind when I think of 2015’s last PTR Hare Scramble, it’s INTENSITY. This day was filled with intense racers, persevering through intense battles, under intense conditions. We can’t wait to see what next season has in store. See you then!

12 November 2015 – Michigan’s AMA/D14 Motorsports News crossed in sixth. Ryan came through next in seventh as Tom had gone missing. Steve and Eric were wheel to wheel at the finish with Steve having the advantage. Tom showed up next just ahead of Brad as they must have both had problems on the last lap. The moto two holeshot went to Mike with Lance trying sneak up the inside. Chad was just behind right next to Kris followed by Eric, Eli and Dave. Brad, Ryan and Tom were side by side as Steve was trying to go around the outside. Jeff was next with a slight edge over Big Mike. At the start of lap two Chad had moved into the lead with Lance and Mike rounding out the top three. Eric was off to a better start than moto one right in front of Dave and then Kris. He had gone down just before the finish sweepers and lost a lot of positions. Eli was also off to a better start and was just ahead of Tom with a small gap back to Ryan and Steve. Brad lost some time on the first lap with Jeff putting some distance on Big Mike. Lap three got under way with Chad out front with about a five second lead over Lance. Kris was riding angry and was making up a lot of time and was up to third. Mike was back a spot in fourth as Dave was closing the gap in fifth. Eric was right behind Dave and Eli was not far behind either. Brad made some moves and was next ahead of Ryan and then Tom. Tom was keeping pace until he stalled right in front of me and took a long time to get going. He lost a spot so

Steve and got going just as Jeff was coming to pass. Chad was next to start the last lap just as he put Big Mike a lap down. Lance was still running a close second with Kris closing the gap with every turn in third. Dave came around in fourth as Mike stalled it in the back section and was now in fifth. Eric was looking for the pass in sixth and made it a good last lap race. Eli had a good view as he was closing the gap back in seventh. Brad and Steve were next, as Tom came through about five seconds ahead of the leaders to stay on the lead lap. Chad took another moto win and the overall as Lance was going to hold onto second for second overall. Kris was a close third dropping him to third overall. He gained a lot of ground on the last lap and with another lap, would have made it a three way battle for the win. Dave came through next in fourth with Mike taking fifth after his stall and pressure from Eric in sixth. Eli ended up seventh for sixth overall with Eric back in seventh. Brad would hold onto eighth but his first moto eleventh would drop him back to ninth while Steve’s ninth was good for eighth overall. Tom was back in tenth and tenth overall with Jeff and Big Mike ending up eleventh and twelfth. Ryan had some bike issues mid race finishing his day with a dnf and dropping him back to thirteenth. The Transition class was last on the day with Al Doneth taking the holeshot over

 Mike Laczko made his return going 3-2 for second in Iron Man POLKA DOTS continued from page 10 around Jeff Doneth. Big Mike Poirier and Eli Hovorka were also coming through as he remounted. Coming to finish lap one, Chad was on the gas and out front with Kris into second with Lance up to third. Mike slipped back to fourth with his rival Dave up to fifth. Tom was next sliding around and giving up some time with Brad gaining ground. Steve came by next as Ryan was pressuring him for eighth. Eli made some passes as he was trying to hold the charge from Eric while Jeff was holding off his rival Big Mike. Chad was back around quick as he was finishing up lap two with Lance now in second. Kris was a close third as Dave was now in the four spot with Mike back to fifth. Tom still held down sixth and Eric made a mistake and went off track while battling with Brad. He recovered quickly and it’s a good thing he didn’t go down again as Steve was right

there to take advantage. Ryan was back a few seconds with Eli slowly gaining ground. Jeff had put a little distance on Big Mike while Chad was about to make the pass and take the white flag. It was a short gap back to Lance and an even shorter one back to Kris in third. Dave put a little distance on Mike as they both pulled away from sixth place Tom. Ryan made a few passes and was now in seventh as Brad, Steve and Eli were all side by side. Eric must have made a small mistake as he was behind all three of them but was very close. Chad flew by next and went on to take the moto win as Kris made the pass for second with three turns to go and it was a battle of the 125’s. Kris would take the inside of the final turn to take second while Lance ended up third. Jeff and Big Mike came by next a lap down and in twelfth and thirteenth. Dave had a few second lead over Mike for fourth as Eli

Vic Flegel decided to race Iron Man and took third overall Justin Mclosky. Austin Visger was next just ahead of Tom Claerhout, Ian Lee, George Mekjian and Ross Kershner. Mark Cook, Gene Huntoon and Brad Bolzman were all close. Ray Brooks had a slight edge over Jeff Hale and Ken Green. To start lap two, Al and Justin were wheel to wheel with Austin a close third with Ian up to fourth. Ross and Gene were battling as Ray was closing in. George and Bard were next as they were just ahead of Jeff and Ken. Mark was missing and must have had a bobble in the back. Part way into lap three, Al still had a second or two lead over Justin as they were flying out front. Austin was holding down third with Ian in fourth. Gene was up to fifth as Ross and Brad were battling. Ray was next and pulling away from George and Jeff. Mark was back in the mix but back in tenth with dirt all down the left side of his gear. Al and Justin came by once again and on their final lap. Al was in the lead but with no real gap to Justin and it was going to be an exciting finish. Austin was losing a little time in third as he got around Ken as Ian was holding off Gene. Ross, Brad and Ray were all close as well as they were

pulling away from Jeff and Mark. Coming to the last few turns, Al was still out front, and in the last turn Al had to protect the inside so Justin went wide. Al made perfect line and Justin stalled while trying to rail the soft berm. Al would cross and take the win as Justin was now in a hurry to try and restart his big KX 500. He got it refired and crossed the line in second only a few seconds ahead of Austin in third. Ian fell off the pace a little at the end but held on to fourth as Gene was on the charge and finished a close fifth. Sixth went to Ross as Ray and Brad were going to battle till the end. Brad had the edge coming into the finish are abut Ray would take the spot with two turns to go. Ray took the inside of the final turn and Brad went wide. They both went through the turn perfectly and it was a photo finish with Ray taking the spot by a wheel. Jeff and Mark were a lap down finishing ninth and tenth as well as George and Ken taking eleventh and twelfth. Tom had troubles on the opening lap and but end up with a dnf. When the gate fell for moto two, Al was through turn one first with Justin and Austin fighting for second.

Ian had a wheel on Gene and Ray followed about a second lead over Al. Austin was by Ross, Mark and George. Brad had a a lonely third with Ross still holding onto small lead over Jeff and then Ken. Tom was fourth over Gene. Mark was holding off way back on the start as he was out on his Ray for sixth with Brad next as Ian was Iron bike after seizing up his Husky in moto making his way back forward. Jeff made one. Al was still out front at the beginning his way around George for tenth. Coming of lap two with Justin on his rear wheel. to the finish it was a close one but Justin Austin lost a little ground in third with Austin, Gene and Ross all fighting for fourth. POLKA DOTS continued on page 14 Ray was just a few seconds behind followed by Mark and Brad. George was back a few spots just ahead of Jeff and then a few more seconds back to Ken and Tom. To start lap three it was Justin out front with Al eating his roost. Austin was back a little more in third but it was now Ross and Gene battling for fourth.  Blair Miller enjoying the fall air at Valley MX VALLEY MX (Stanton, MI) | October 18 October 18th marked the final race of the ATV State Championship Series at Valley MX. We had a good turnout, including our riders that have made nearly every race. We had Jacob Hill claiming the win in Quad 30+ and B, Clint Bashore in Quad C, and Daniel Berger in Quad 50+. Our mini quad winners from this weekend were Makailey Vantiem, Blair Miller, and Landyn Vantiem on the big track and Gage Isham and Blaze Snyder on the little track. Everyone has secured their final positions for the year, such as Tony Wroblewski in 30+ and Makailey Vantiem in 90 Modified for 1st place. It's been a great year of racing. There has been a large amount of new racers along with those who have been here since they started. We have gotten some prett y large classes too, especially with Quad C having 23 riders signed up this year! We hope to see this trend continue for the coming years too! Valley MX also put on a Breast Cancer Awareness ride to raise money for charity. We had a few of our quad riders out there, like Tyler Gregg and Randy Kill rocking their pink outfits. They ended up raising over $1000! That's incredible! A big thanks to everyone else who participated. One a last note, keep an eye out for details regarding the 2015 ATV Championship banquet. We look forward to seeing all of our top riders this year. We hope everyone has a fun and safe off season, and are ready to come back with a bang in the spring next year.

2015 D-14 ATV HARESCRAMBLE WRAP-UP Story by Jason Cottrell | photos courtesy of Silva Cook Photography First and foremost, I want to take a minute to personally thank each and everyone involved with our group. Without such awesome people, our group wouldn't be the tight knit family that we are! This season came in like a lion, and well... to be quite honest, it went out like one too! Taking 1st place for the season in A Open class was Yamaha rider number 58, David Letts! Mr. Letts had a killer season with three 1st place, three 2nd place, and a 3rd place finish and finished with 186 points overall! Nice job, David! Coming in 1st place this season for Vet 25+ class was KTM rider number 46, Dan Brendel! Mr. Brendel not only finished this season with eight 1st place finishes, 210 points overall, but he also served as Chairmen for AMA D-14 this year. Dan also came away with 1st place overall with 190 points! Thank you Dan, for what you've done for our sport this year and great job this season! Rounding up the season in 1st place for B Open was KTM rider number 93, Josh Herter with four 1st place, four 2nd place, a 4th place finish and 195 points overall. Nice job, Josh! O 35+ class was headed up by Suzuki rider number 505, Steve Taylor! Mr. Taylor lead the class with five 1st place finishes and 150 points overall! Great riding, Steve! In a C Open class packed full every race, KTM rider number 888, Brad Kerns come away with 1st place. This rider was very much in control of their machine at every moment, chose their line and stayed on it very well! This rider is Youth rider number 5, Racquel Raska! Keep up the good work, Racquel! Thanks again to all racers and their families for coming out to race! It's a pleasure each race to meet and talk to all of you! I'm looking forward to next year already!

national enduro news story and photos submitted by Talon Soenksen

MUDDOBBERS MOTORCYCLE CLUB (Matthews, IN) | October 11 The final round of the National Enduro series was held underneath the famous Matthews Covered Bridge in Matthews Indiana. Coming into this round I knew I could possibly take 2nd in the championship and was going to give it everything I had. Being on row 47 I knew I would have some prime conditions to do battle. The first test was awesome but the sun wasn't in the best position to see where you were going so that made it a little more difficult. The first test also included the first of six river crossings which always make things interesting. The second test I really started feeling good and riding well and I kept it on two wheels throughout and came through with a solid test time. In the third test I had one small tip over that tweaked my bars and made it pretty difficult to ride at first but once I figured it out I started getting back into my rhythm. This test also a river crossing but it wasnt too difficult.

Before test four there was a short pit stop. Handlebars straightened then we were back to racing. Test four went really good except for a small scare towards the beginning when I tried jumping a road that wasn't meant to be jumped and I clipped my rear wheel on the other side resulting in a very scary near endo but I managed to save it and keep on charging. Test five was probably my worst of the day and it also had the most river crossings with four. I had a tip over into a creek bank where my front tire got stuck in the bank and I once again tweaked my bars trying to pull it out. Once I got going I just focused on finishing out the test and not losing too much time. Before test six my mom told me I was only 15 seconds down with three sections scored so I knew if I pushed it as hard as I could I could possibly make up the time and grab the win. Test six was one of the most fun tests of the day and it had a good flow and good dirt and the final river crossing of the day.

I had a pretty good time but felt like I could've done a little better. In the end I got 2nd in A200 which was kind of disappointing since I wanted get the win and 15th overall A. I was happy with my season ending class finish of 3rd and even more pumped to see that I reached my goal of top 20 overall A with a tie for 12th place! I cannot wait for next year racing my David Allen Racing YZ250FX full time in the A250 class in which I hope to win the national championship. I also have some other things planned that I've never done

before so 2016 is going to be a fun and exciting year of racing. Thank you to everyone that has supported me throughout this year and thank you to my parents for driving me around the country to chase a lifelong dream. FAMILY ENDURO SERIES

story and photos by Mike Maurer, Family Enduro Series Chairman

How would you describe the Family Enduro Series? Smiles on faces? Safety first? Grins and giggles? Or Family, Friends and Fun? By any description, the 2015 Family Enduro Series has been a success. We had a 10 event season and most of the events increased the attendance from last year. The final events of the year were in Greenville, OH and New Paris, IN and our total attendance will exceed 2,000 for the first time. The day before the Greenville FES a riding school was taught by Rich Lafferty. We had 15 participants to learned bike preparation, practiced new skills, and went for a ride home o test the lessons learned. Thanks to Shawne Collins for organizing this event and to the Treaty City MC for allowing the school to be held at their clubgrounds. The riding school participants got wet with the rain on Saturday, but it made the trails conditions on Sunday to be ideal. The start of the course provided excellent viewing for spectators as the club utilized their moto cross track in the first mile. The remainder of the course included single track trail, some fields and few bridges to challenge the riders. We had over 50 new riders to a family enduro at this event. It is great to see the series still attracting new riders even at the end of the year. A couple of riders in the

I class (16-39 year old) - Adam Harner and Asa Abel battled all day for the best score. At each check their results were within seconds of each other. In the end Adam won by 23 seconds. There were 8 riders in this class that were within 4 points of each other and five of them scored their first points of the year. Very competitive and welcome to the new riders! The best score of a rider under 16 was Maxyn Sharp who was riding his first FES of the season. The forecast for New Paris in late October was for a rainy day - AGAIN!! It was cloudy, but the rain held off until the trophy presentation in the afternoon. This event was on Halloween and some the riders took the opportunity to wear a costume while riding. Fletcher and Shawne Collins each wore a mask to the riders meetings, but for safety reasons removed them before key time. The Orme family (Gretchen, Lee and Chasen) all wore matching costumes that were SUPER. Riders MC did a great job of laying out a challenging course and also had to deal with issues with access to land. The younger riders (under 9) did not ride the first loop as the route was set up for the 18 mph time schedule and the second loop was at 12 mph. Hunter Harter aced the short course and did not drop any route points. Paul Hueb-

Lee, Gretchen and Chasen Orme from Illinois at Turkey Gobbler FES (New Paris, IN) on October 31. ner had the best score on the long course - beating Neel Bhagat by only 22 seconds. Neel's dad, Dicky (aka Dr. Bhagat) was on the podium just a few points behind Paul and Neel. Glenn Sipes was the next best score and the lowest score for the riders under 16 years old. We had some special prizes after the event. It was Flethcer Collins' 13 birthday. Each of the trophy winners were also treated to a Hallowen cupcake. Thanks to the Fisher/ Collins family for ALL of their generosity this year. Also, Steve Beane from Plus One Performance was on hand to giveaway two neck braces for people who had attended the events in Bentley, Lawton and New Paris. The winners were Gavin Mills (F class) and Michelle Dalton (H class). With the 161 riders in Greenville and 221 in New Paris, our total attendance for the year to 2,037 participants. The Michigan Off Road Events scoring team was entering in new riders to the system even at our last event in New Paris. Please spread the word to your friends that a Family Enduro is a great opportunity to enjoy riding your motorcycle.

on the banquet awards. We are planning to give away over 70 awards and the list will be published in the near future. Please make plans to attend our year end banquet at the Comfort Inn - Mt Pleasant on Saturday, January 23rd. We are also working on the 2016 schedule and list of sponsors. We need to replace the Lawton event in 2016 as Rev Ron and his crew are going to take a well deserved break. They plan to be back in 2017. We plan to return to Roselawn, Kalkaska, Greenville, OH, Marquette, Bentley, Moorestown, Fife Lake, Matthews and New Paris. We will have the schedule finalized by the end of November. In the near future we will be announcing a new FES sponsor, but we are still working out the details (look for a Facebook announcement). We hope that all of our 2015 sponsors continue to support the Family Enduro Series. REMEMBER....we still accepted donated trophies for Family Enduros. Please contact me if you have motorcycle trophies to donate (sorry, no plaques) and we can arrange pick up/delivery arrangements. SEE YOU AT THE BANQUET IN JANUARY. Mike

TUTU MUCH FUN for CHARITY

at Valley MX

VALLEY MX (Stanton, MI) | October 17-18 story and photos submitted by Terri Sweet

 Pumpkin painting at Valley MX

Valley MX has had a great year with so many wonderful people coming to the races! Thank you to all the racers, families, flaggers, signup workers, front gate workers, water truck guys, starting gate (Clint Moreland), announcer (Grant Moreland), mini track helpers, scorers, Mr. Always on the Run (Phil), paramedics and everyone else that made 2015 such a fun and wonderful year. Thank you to Mr. Valley and Amy (Mrs. Valley) for working so hard to give the racers a great track to race on and for being such wonderful friends to everyone who comes to Valley MX. This shows everyone what a class act is and sets the bar high for other places. The last weekend for racing at Valley MX was October 17 and 18. If you didn't make it out you missed a bunch of fun. The weekend started out with D14 racing and a money moto.

This is a Michigan business and not only does he do super work, he keeps prices down. You can get custom bike/quad graphics made and graphics for other needs and save money. So give Dave a call at Next Level Graphics. You won't be sorry. Results for top 10 from the Money Moto were as follows: 1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th 6th 7th 8th 9th 10th

Campers were encouraged to decorate their campsites and prizes were awarded for Best Campsite. Sunday, October 18th, was Breast Cancer Awareness day. Many riders wore pink, some wore tutu's and had pink on their bikes. A special ride was a $5 donation and the money (plus money from Amy and Mr. Valley) was donated to a fund for a local family that had just lost their mom/

Next Level Graphics, MX for Autism, the Lorenz family and Kersh's Two Stroke donated more wonderful prizes. The holeshot winner was Al Morrison. The hard charger prize went to Chis Elko. Joey Davis won the prize for fastest two stroke.

In the middle of the afternoon, there was pumpkin painting for everyone that wanted to paint a pumpkin. The pumpkins were donated by Sydnee and Stella Moreland's grandpa and he sure does grow some nice pumpkins. After races, there was a costume contest. Everything from Santa Claus to Beer Pong cups was there. Some folks dressed up the dogs. There were some pretty ingenious costumes. Mr. Valley took the kids

wife. All in all a very wonderful amount over $1,000 was given to the family. The riders took a slow lap around the track to honor those who have or still are struggling with breast cancer.

I, personally, want to say thank you to everyone this year. It is wonderful to work with people who care and are working hard at supporting those who ride/race. I

appreciate the flaggers and all their hard work keeping riders safe. I appreciate the racers following the rules, giving it their best and having patience and understanding when I am addressing problems. We are all one big team and that is what makes Valley MX successful. Thank you to all and remember: 2016 is right around the corner!

Back in the Woods story and photo by Steve Beane, Hare Scrambles Chairman

… and just like that another season of District 14 Hare Scrambles racing is in the books. Portland Trail Riders hosted the final round of the series October 11th, and thanks to some creative course layout offered up a 5.3 mile loop to challenge Michigan’s best off-road riders. A big thanks goes out to the club for stretching themselves – and the course – in an effort to provide the best racing possible. While the number of races held dropped from previous years the attendance and level of racing was way up. Before the ‘big bike’ program got underway the Hare Scrambles division held its annual business meeting and elections. Riders voted on a number of proposed rule changes before electing officers and rider representatives for the upcoming season. Rule proposals presented included • Creating a separate 3 hour 50+ A class – passed • Limiting the length of races to 2 hours – failed • Racers to be eligible for worker points (the average of their other scores, awarded at year end) if they sign up at least one month prior to event they intend to work – passed • Riders finishing in the top 10 overall of either 2 or 3 hr classes would be required to race in the highest level class in subsequent years if they remained in the same subset or if they moved from 2 to 3 hr or 3 to 2 hr – passed Officer and rider representatives were elected for 2016 as follows • Chairman – Kevin Fleszar (unopposed) • Vice Chairman – Neal Soenksen (unopposed) • Treasurer – Jessie Richardson (unopposed) • Points Keeper – Mark Becker (unoposed)

The calm before (and after) the storm • Rider Representatives – Mark Becker, Taylor Carpenter, alternate Zach Kiezer Congratulations are in order for the new team, and I want to offer a sincere thank you to the crew that supported my efforts this year to make the D14 Hare Scrambles series more exciting and rider friendly. It was my desire to add some clarity to our rulebook, encourage clubs to offer new and fresher trail, and increase the depth of competition in every class, and to a large extent I think that was achieved. Hopefully the momentum will continue as we plan for the 2016 season at the December 5th sanctioning meeting in Lansing. “You only live once”. “Strike while the iron is hot”. “There’s no better time than now”. “Variety is the spice of life”. All of these are clichés that could easily have been applied to my decision to race a KTM525 quad at the final round of the 2015 season at Portland. And while the idea had been tossed around for a while, it didn’t come to fruition until just a week or two prior to the

event. Dan Brendel made me an offer I couldn’t refuse – basically a factory ride for a day on a fully-prepped race quad at possibly the best quad track in the series. With Mark Becker’s words of caution (and derision to be perfectly honest) ringing in my ears, I accepted the challenge of racing the big Katoom in what would be my first ATV race in 30 years. To make matters more difficult, I was going to attempt to “do the double”. At Portland that usually means holding the throttle on and grabbing some air, but in this context it simply meant that I would climb aboard the quad after 3 hours aboard the Beta in the motorcycle side of things. You might guess that a Beta 300RR and a KTM 525 race quad share very little in common. Looking at the photo that accompanies this story, you can see that the kickstart levers look very similar … but everything else is different. Two-stroke versus four-stroke. Manual versus autoclutch. Two wheels versus four… and on and on and on. I should have perhaps paid

more attention to the things Dan was saying prior to arriving at the starting line. For one thing, I didn’t have the starting sequence worked out and got left sitting on the line when the engine failed to fire at the green flag. Secondly reverse gear in a quad is your friend, so had I remembered to select reverse instead of hopping off the quad, the traffic jam in the woods would have been less painful. As it was I needed a friendly competitor’s reminder to “re-tether” before I drained the battery trying to restart from a mild off-path excursion. Said excursion was from not remembering that quads may turn well when they are on the gas, but they are less adept when the power is off. There were a number of cool attributes about the quad that made me appreciate the experience. After a month of spinning cars in driver training, cornering a quad on the grass track and on the moto-track seemed intuitive – gas it and slide! The suspension on the big Katoom handled all of the bumps with ease, and there was plenty of power on tap at the tip of my thumb. The auto-clutch was easy to adapt to, and a true God send because I was busy with lots of other things and didn’t have to worry about clutching. Overall the experience was a great one. Thanks to Dan for trusting me with his fully-prepped race quad, and my apologies to the guys I may have held up out on the course. I can’t see myself signing up to build and race a competitive four-wheeler, but it’s nice to know the option exists. If you’re looking for a very capable machine, like a Beta, to get you “back in the woods”, look no further than the all-Italian line-up at PlusOnePerformance. SILAS BLOUGH ATV Featured Rider story and photo by Jason Cottrell

This month's featured D-14 ATV rider is Honda rider number 27, Silas Blough from A class. Silas says, "I've been racing for 3 years now. Ever since I was a little kid, I would go to my brother Chris Blough's races in Portland... that is whenever I could get out of going to church. I've been around quads pretty much my whole life and fell in love with them right away. I got my first quad when I was 16 and started racing. I'm currently racing A class, even though I probably shouldn't be. But I figured I was winning in B class when nothing went wrong with my quad, so I moved up to try and learn the pace of A class." I asked Silas what he feels his greatest accomplishment was. Silas says, "My greatest accomplishment I guess would be a 7th place finish at the Tomahawk GNCC in sportsman ab this year. But, just finishing a damn GNCC feels like an accomplishment sometimes." Well Silas, keep up the good work! We are glad to have you as a part of the D-14 crew!

BIG BATTLES VINTAGE MX

at Bulldogs BULLDOG RIDERS MOTORCYCLE CLUB (Millington, MI) | October 11 Story and photos by Steve Baginski The Season is almost over and we headed to Bulldogs M/C for our second to last round. We were supposed to run on Saturday but that was changed and we went out with all the other classes on Sunday. We were once again to have three of the four classes out together and it definitely made for some tricking passing opportunities. We also had close to our largest turnout which made for some spectacular racing and even a three way tie for the overall win in two classes. The weather was good and the track started good and turned into typical rough Bulldogs. There were a few bike failures but everyone seemed to have a prett y good time. The Transition class was out first with Justin Mclosky narrowly taking the holeshot over Al Doneth. Gene Huntoon started a close third followed by Ian Lee and the almost sliding out Derek Brooks. Joey Munger and Ray Brooks had a slight edge over Tom Claerhout and Brad Bolzman. Jeff Mansfield was next with Ken Green and Joe Hovorka giving chase. At the start of lap two, Al and Justin were nearly side by side with Ian up to third. Tom had taken over the number four spot dropping Gene and Joey to fifth and sixth. Derek was next with a half a bike lead over dad Ray. Brad was back a few spots just ahead of Jeff and Ken. Joe seemed to have his bike issues worked out from Polka Dots and was making his first few laps around the tough sand track. They came around to start lap three with Justin started to gain ever so slightly over Al in second. Tom was on the gas and up to third with Ian back to fourth. Joey had made the move on Gene for fifth with Ray overtaking Derek for sixth. Brad was also up a spot as Derek had given up two spots and was back in eighth. With less than half a lap to go, Al was charging ahead and closing the gap back to Justin. He would get up to his rear wheel but would come up just short at the finish with Justin taking the win. With Al a close second,

 Joey Munger cant pass up a day of racing to a fourth while working

 Dean Taylor has the speed now that his bike issues have been worked out, he went 1-1 for his first Evolution overall Tom was also gaining but would run out of time finishing third from another mid pack start. Ian rode strong with Joey closing the gap in the last lap to finish fifth. Gene had a good ride back in sixth with and was able to stay ahead of Ray. Derek made a last lap pass on Brad to take back eighth. With the riders being out with a very fast Non-Current class as well, Jeff was a lap down in tenth along with Ken in eleventh and Joe in twelfth. Moto two was a battle from the drop of the gate and Al struck first taking the holeshot. Justin was a close second with Tom taking third up the inside of Gene. Ray was next with Ian to his inside while Joey and Derek fought for position. Brad, Jeff, Ken and Joe were all close through urn one as well. At the start of lap two Al had opened a slight lead while Tom took over second with Justin a close third. Ian was holding down fourth with a small gap back to Joey then Gene. Ray had the edge over Derek for now with

Brad moving his way forward. Jeff was next with a little lead over Ken. By the start of lap three Al’s lead had shrunk to nearly nothing as they pulled a little gap over Justin in third. Ian was still in fourth with Joey lurking ever so close in fifth. Ray took over sixth from Gene as Derek was no off the side of the track with a bike issue. Brad was next and losing time on Gene. The top three were very close to start the final lap with Al leading the way with Tom holding second as Justin closed back up in third. Joey had made the move on Ian for fourth as Gene and Ray were side by side fighting for sixth. As they had a few turns to go, Tom went for the lead and took it from Al. He had the lead down the last straight and had the advantage over the last hump before the finish. So Tom would take the second moto win with Al taking second and Justin a close third. So the top three were in a three way tie for the overall with Tom taking the spot

with his second moto win. Al ended up second with Justin rounding out the top three. Joey made a nice pass with about a half lap to go for fourth and fourth overall swapping spots with Ian for fifth. Gene put his head down and pulled away from Ray at the end of the lap to take sixth and Ray in seventh. Brad ended the day with 9-8 scores for eighth after Derek suffered his dnf. That would move everyone else up a spot as well with Jeff taking ninth, Ken in tenth and Joe in eleventh. The next race was hectic with a total of 33 riders on the track and 21 all in the first drop. Innovation and Evolution were in the first drop with Chad Morehouse taking the holeshot with newcomer Mike Shinabarger a close second. Bryan Hoeldtke started third with Mike Poirier ahead of Dave Fink and Kris Gillett. Joe Sangster was the first Evo rider with Tommy Lee a close second. Alex Mangani was

just ahead of Tom Lee, Eric Taylor, Steve Adema, Michael Sutherland and Dean Howard. Garrison Goforth was back out starting ahead of Todd Lane, Eli Hovorka and Mark Havalda. Jeff Doneth and Brad Barnes battled and had a slight edge over Big Mike Poirier. And then to add to the mix the Iron Man guys were in the second drop with Kevin Stone edging out Brad Bolzman for the holeshot. Joe Rader had a good start and was just ahead of Rick Stone, Tom Claerhout, Dave Mclean and Randy Stone. Dale Darling was next followed by Stephen Phillips, Brian Briggs, Brandi Stone and Nolan Briggs. After the dust settled and they started lap two, Chad was out front with Kris and Bryan closing in second and third. Mike S. was back to fourth with Dean up to the first Evo. Eric and Tommy were wheel to wheel with Michael and Mike also doing battle.

 Mike Shinabarger made his vintage debut taking fifth in Innovation on his clean YZ 250 VINTAGE continued from page 25 Alex had slipped back a few spots after a good start and came just ahead of Tom and Todd. Steve and Barnes were starting to do battle with Garrison just ahead of Mark. Claerhout was getting into the first drop and leading Iron as he made his way around Jeff and Eli. Kevin and Brad were very close making their way around Dave and Joe was coming along as well. Rick came by just ahead of Dale and Big Mike with Mclean and Rader swapping positions. Brian was just ahead of his rival/ friend of Stephen as they led Randy who was having some bike issues. Then the leaders started to make their way back through with the start of lap three with Chad still leading the way. Kris had closed the gap with Bryan an even closer third. Mike S. was holding onto fourth while Dean still led the Evo riders. Michael, Mike and Tommy were all within a second with Tom about two seconds behind followed by Alex. Eric was back a few spots as Claerhout was now making his way passed Steve. Mark was now up to Barnes’ rear wheel with Joe running fifth Evo. Brad came by in second Iron with Kevin back to third. Garrison, Rick and Dale had spread out just a little with a slight lead

chael for fifth. Michael must have had a tip over as Eric, Steve Tom and Alex all made their way around dropping him to tenth. Dave was a lap down in eleventh along with Jeff, Big Mike and Eli rounding out the field. Eli struggled late in the race after a stall and a broken rear brake cable. Dean looked good while taking the Evo win with Tommy closing in second. Mark also made a last lap pass on Barnes to round out the podium. That put Joe into fifth, Todd to sixth and Garrison dropping all the way back to seventh after a decent start. Claerhout went on to another moto win with Brad in second and Kevin making his return in third. Rick took a fourth with Dale holding onto fifth. Randy struggling with some bike issues to sixth with Joe finishing seventh. Mclean battled the entire moto but slipped back a spot or two in the end to eighth. Brian took the position and bragging rights over Stephen with Brandi taking eleventh. Nolan was seen in the background pushing his bike back to the truck after lap two with a dnf. When the first drop was off for moto two it was Chad with another holeshot with Mike S. trying to make the pass around the outside. Bryan was a close third with Mike leading Eric and Kris. Dave had a better start just ahead of Joe and Tom with Steve, Garrison and Tommy all side by side. Todd got

over Jeff. Chad was the next rider through another moto win with Kris holding off as he started his last lap. Kris and Bryan Bryan for second. Mike S. too the fourth were wheel to wheel as they were making spot as Mike made a last lap pass on Mitheir way through the lapped riders. Mike S. was making a good showing in his first Vintage race while Dean was looking at his second ever moto win. Michael was slipping back as Mike was closing in and looking for the pass. Tommy was also charging as he was trying to stay with Mike and ahead of Claerhout. Eric had made a few passes and got around Tom for sixth with Steve closing in on Tom. Alex was headed backwards but was still holding off Barnes and Mark. Brad and Joe were close with Todd getting by as the last rider on the lead lap. Chad came by first with  Justin Mclosky made his second race on his KX 500 taking the first moto win

Kevin grabbed another holeshot with Brad a close second just ahead of Rader and Rick. Claerhout had another slow start just ahead of Dale, Mclean and Brian. Nolan had the edge over Brandi with Randy bringing up the rear with his bike not sounding that great. Stephen was not on the line with his own bike problems and would drop him in the overall. Chad came by first to start lap two with Bryan into second and Kris in third. Mike S. was in fourth with Mike and Eric fighting for fifth. Joe was next leading Evo with dean a close second and Todd a little ways back in third. Tom was next just ahead of Tommy and Dave as Michael was making up ground after a slow start. through the first drop. Kevin was leading Rick as Brad was off the track and checking out his bike. Nolan was struggling to make it up one of the hills and Brian took advantage and moved into fourth. Mclean was gaining in fifth while Big Mike and Dale were wheel to wheel. Rader was next as Nolan made his way through just ahead of Brandi. Half way through lap three, Chad’s lead was shrinking as Bryan and Kris were closing fast. As they came out of the middle section to head towards the finish, Bryan was out front with Kris a close second. Chad must have stalled out of sight and came out quite a few seconds back in third. Mike S. was still in fourth but Dean had taken over the Evo lead from Joe. Michael made some strong passes and was up to fifth with Mike a close sixth. Steve was next as Eric slipped back a few spots and was just ahead of Joe and Dave. Tom was holding off Claerhout for the time being with Mark now back in front of Barnes. Garrison was next in front of Eli as the leaders started to make their way around on the final lap. Bryan still had the lead but Kris was trying his best in second. Chad dropped off the pace a little with Mike S. still in fourth but Mike was now up to fifth. Dean was on his heals leading Evo as Michael was just behind both of them. Claerhout was making his way through as Steve and Eric were battling for seventh. Dave was also closing the gap just ahead of Tom as Joe was a solid second. Mark had put a little ground between him and Barnes as Garrison was back in fifth. At the finish it was a close one with Bryan barely taking the win over a frustrated Kris. Chad was back a little in third and again there was a three way tie for the overall. Bryan’s 3-1 was good enough for the overall with Kris going 2-2 for second. Chad’s fall dropped him to third with his 1-3 but was still good enough for him to wrap up his first Innovation Championship. Mike would make some passes on the last lap putting him in fourth and fourth overall. Mike S. would drop back to fifth with Michael in sixth but seventh overall. Steve took two seventh’s for sixth overall as Dave took eighth but his first moto eleventh dropped him to tenth overall. Ninth in the moto went to went to Tom for ninth overall while Eric’s 6-10 put him in eighth overall. Eli had the moto edge over Jeff but Jeff took eleventh overall with Eli in twelfth. Big Mike ended up thirteenth as Alex did not make the start of moto two placing him back in fourteenth after his ninth in moto one. Dean

ICE RACE

After lunch break we convened the Ice Racing council, which was slowed down by some lowly humor at the expense of our honorable ice chairman. Once i was able to reel Craig Scott in, VTR President, it became very productive meeting, with only the occasional chairman rip. Were were able to set an excellent schedule for the coming winter, as well as adjust some classes. Im personally excited for the new class, 80-230cc Air Cooled 4STK Studded Solo. This will be a great introductory/parent class that anyone can have fun in! The quad classes are stacked with riders, with OPEN A, OPEN B, 35+YRS OPEN, 16-34YRS OPEN, two skill classes two age classes along with the COMBO as well.

by Jeremiah Sherman – Ice Chairman

I am considering keeping points on the COMBO Classes, to be awarded number plates and money at the end of the season, the winner may purchase a jacket if they want. If i do this, it would change it to a PRO AM Class.

REPORT

November 9th, 2015 (Midland Mi) I had the opportunity to spend a day with our flat track and ice racing promoters this weekend at the pre-sanction meeting as well as a couple rider reps. Chairman Robbin Pangborn led the meeting along with ViceChair Andy Nicols. Also In attendance were reps from Lucky Thumb MC, Polka Dots MC, Owosso Motorsports Park, Valley Trail Riders, White Lake Racing, Kevin Lambert JR, Jacob Barber Jr., and Joe Barnes. After completing the the dirt track schedule for the following year, we went over some positives and negatives of the season. Our fellow racer Jacob Barber took it upon himself to conduct an online rider survey of this years season, and got 57 participants. A major topic of note is that we lost a promoter to the upcoming season due to bad conduct and foul language from riders and family members. As participants and guests of these business's and clubs, we have a responsibility to conduct ourselves in a professional manner. If not there can be consequences that can lead to loss of points, to suspension or even expulsion. This includes if said person is a parent or friend of the rider. No matter what our organizers are trying the best they can, we owe them our support, or they wont have us back. The next topic of note was adding more quad classes, which was an easy and short discussion! I am personally looking forward to a shortened less demanding schedule next summer, should make the points racing much more exciting.

The sponsors are starting to roll in as I type. As of right now, I can tell you we have money to win with yer end awards in the 450 A Studded Solo, Open Rubber Quad, and Studded Quad A so far. I am Still lining money up for 250 A Rubber solo, and Hack Solo. The Top Three finishers in 450 B studded solo has free sets of brakes and clutch levers from Streamline Brakes. The first 50 riders at sign up in White Lake will receive $30 in Fly Bucks, the next 50 will receive $20 in fly bucks. All registrants at each race will receive $10 Dollar Gift Cards in the mail From Rockymountain ATV, one card per person per event. Unofficially at this point, should have 500 $10 gift cards from Koldkutter Racing as door prizes. Other supporters this season will include Lakes Motorsports, Tech-Care Suspension, EVS-SPORTS, Walsh Race Craft, ABC Harley Davidson, KNN Filters, Pivot Works, Baldwin Motorsports, TC Racing engines, Bryan Bigelow, Dura Blue, Labarons Power Sports, Fasst Companies, Powermadd, Hoosier Tire Midewest, Barkers Exhaust, Magic Motorsports and more to follow. This season looks to be a barn burner, we lowered entry fees for all 50cc classes to $10! Most of the racers should leave the track even on dollars, lets go winter, its up to you now.

 Kaley Johnson was the 2015 AMA Ice Racer of the Year.

The 2016 American Motorcyclist Association Ice Race Grand Championship is scheduled for Feb. 13-14 at the Pontiac Lake Recreation Area in Waterford, Mich. The 2016 event will be hosted by White Lake Racing.

"All the fast guys who want to stay in shape go ice racing. I think this is why Michigan racers have a competitive edge in national-caliber dirt track events. Bring on the hard water, let's race!"

"Our AMA ice racers wait all year for this event," said AMA Track Racing Manager Ken Saillant. "White Lake Racing's partnership with the AMA offers racers a top-notch event to showcase their talents. The facility is located just outside of the Detroit metro area, so we're expecting the race to draw a lot of local fans in addition to the racers and their families." Competitors will battle for AMA National No. 1 plates in a variety of classes on the oval track on Saturday and the grand prix on Sunday. On Saturday night, a nonchampionship rubber tire enduro race will be held under the lights. An AMA specialty award for Ice Racer of the Year will be bestowed upon one outstanding rider. Some of the past winners

include Kaley Johnson, Allen Rabinette, Parker Norris and Kyle Johnson. The AMA Youth Ice Racer of the Year also will be named at the event. Past recipients include Emmett Sund, Christopher Blackmer, Nathan Gross and Jace Kessler. In addition, the AMA ATV Ice Racer of the Year will be awarded. "It's a great privilege and honor for my organization to host this event for the first time," said Jeremiah Sherman, the owner of White Lake Racing. "We have done loads of work to grow the sport of ice racing in lower Michigan and around the country. We look forward to working with our partners at the AMA and other ice racing organizations around the Midwest, as

well as some great sponsors that support us every year." Sherman added that people tend to forget about ice racing due to its regional nature.

"All the other disciplines take the winter off," Sherman said. "All the fast guys who want to stay in shape go ice racing. I think this is why Michigan racers have a competitive edge in nationalcaliber dirt track events. Bring on the hard water, let's race!" Pre-entry for the event opens Jan. 1, 2016 at www.whitelakeracing.com. The AMA Ice Racing Grand Championship features classes for riders from 4 years old to 50-plus competing on bikes that range from lightly modified off-road machines to full-on, purpose-built ice racers.
