From The editor!

What’s up D7W! Happy October everyone! I hope you are all staying safe and healthy. Thank you to all those who attended last month’s DCM and RTC! There are plenty of fun events for this month too, such as our Spirit Week and joint DCM with D7N and D7S. Also, thank you to everyone who has been participating in club service events such as Love for the Elderly and Color a Smile. Your effort and hardwork never goes unnoticed! The theme for this newsletter is “in spooKEY service!” In this volume, you’ll find info for our division’s spirit week event where you can get service hours from, as well as highlights from our clubs and recaps from September’s RTC. Thank you to all the clubs who submitted articles and visuals for this month! Lastly, I hope you have a great October! I can’t wait to see all of your stories for our Spirit Week.

From The ltg!

hello ghosts! It is finally spooKEY season! I hope you are all excited as I am to show our Division 7 West Ghosts spirit in service and leadership. In the past month, I have been so impressed by the initiative that members have taken to attend not only events hosted by their clubs, but also at our September DCM and Love for the Elderly Service event. In the upcoming weeks, please look forward to our spooKEY spirit week at the end of October. Even though we couldn’t attend Fall Rally North this year, I hope that we can still show off our spirit by participating in this spirit week. Please stay updated on our division Instagram page for more information. I am also very excited to host a joint DCM with the Division 7 North and 7 South Bees and Monsters! This will be hosted via Zoom on October 24th from 3-5 PM. I hope you are all staying safe and healthy!

-Hollie

Davis SENIOR HIGH suicide prevention month posters September was Suicide Prevention Month! We created a project encouraging Key Club members to create suicide prevention awareness posters. The posters had to include a motivational quote/statistic, and the Yolo County Suicide Prevention Hotline. The rest was up to the artist! After creating the poster, Key Club members put the posters up in a public area (with permission).

color a smile

continues!

Volunteers print out a coloring page from https://bit.ly/cosdcm and fill in the blank spaces! Pages are filled with fun templates like flowers and critters, or spots to create a personal design. When finished, they mail the bright sheets to a PO Box - the pages will eventually reach individuals across the world in need of a smile. Each page counts as 30 minutes of service hours, and volunteers can record up to two hours of work. 5

spotlight service registration We ran registration for a few weeks through the end of October 2nd. Dues were paid through the Blue Devil student store online. A registration Google Form was sent out with the link to the student store, collecting members’ emails and grade levels.

club fair! Davis High Student Government organized a school wide club fair during our “Advisory Period” of Wednesday school. Davis Key Club opened a Zoom room for the fair and gave five separate ten minute presentations as students came in. We informed students about the club’s purpose and contact information. The turnout was great! There were around ten people (not including the officers) in the room for every presentation.

hampton’s community

cleanup

On the 26th of September 2020 we attended a community cleanup event from 8 am - 11am. The event really helped get rid of a bunch of trash as we collected more than 20 trash bags filled with trash. Members earned the three hours from this event and enjoyed good food. We had a lot of fun serving our community. We made sure that the areas around us are clean and tidy.

letter to teachers On the 28th of September, we introduced an event called letters to teachers and staff members. During the Pandemic teachers and the staff members are trying their best to make sure we are still getting the same education and succeeding in life. The least we as a club could do was to thank them for being so strong and supportive. We held a zoom meeting on the 4th of October from 11:00 am - 12:00 pm to write the thank you letters and then we emailed it to the teachers.

operation gratitude On the 21st of September, we introduced the event called operation gratitude and it ended on the 5th of October. We wrote thank-you letters to deployed troops, first responders, and emergency medical personnel fighting the pandemic. We took some time out of our day and wrote some letters to say thanks to all of those who have their lives on the line for our protection.

river city club meeting

On Friday, September 11, we had our monthly club meeting. During our meeting, we discussed member registration, membership dues, and senior awards. Members were also able to learn about events that they could attend during September, the Super Sta-RTC, our Interclub Game Night, and the Love for the Elderly event.

super sta-RTC sta-RTC On Saturday, September 19th, Super Sta-RTC was held. During this event, members could choose from a variety of workshops to attend, some discussing topics like member retention or scholarships. Each division would also participate in games to show their spirit. It was a fun way for divisions within our region to connect with each other!

INTERCLUB GAME NIGHT On Saturday, September 26th, we hosted an Interclub Game Night with Inderkum and NP3. Attendees were able to play games that would help different charities. The games that were played during the event were BeanBeanBean, Freerice, and Unicef Math. At the end of the event, members would be entered into a raffle where five members would win gift cards. The number of entrees each member had in the raffle depended on how much they raised in each game.

D7W held our September DCM over Zoom on September 19th! After saying our Key Club pledge and doing roll call, we had an Icebreaker where we guessed different music videos from pictures. Then, each school had a representative to share out their club’s events and updates. Our LTG, Hollie, did a great job leading our DCM and making it a fun event! Thank you ghosties for attending and partcipating in September’s DCM!

REGION 16

TRAINING CONFERENCE On September 19th, Region 16 held an event for members to learn more about Key Club through workshops and activities over Zoom! Members from Region 16 learned all about how to be an active member and leader within their division club.

A Zoom background contest was also held for the RTC meeting. Members were able to design and create their own background for the RTC and submitted it to the LTG prior to using them. This was a fun way to encourage members to participate and make the best out of our online RTC! Thank you everyone who participated, as well as to our LTGs who came together to create this event! 10

love for the elderly

D7W had a new september service event! members can serve their community in a heartful and loving way by sending letters to the elderly! Because of COVID, MANY SENIOR CITIZENS are unable to receive visitors.

Members are encouraged to participate in this event to cheer up the elderly and BRIGHTEN THEIR DAY! Letters are sent out to the address in the graphic. Make sure to follow the guidelines and have fun writing your letters! 11

SHOWCASE OUR CLUB’S SPIRIT AND HAVE FUN!

bring up the spirit! Our division needs a new chant this year! Chants are essential for district wide meetings and help bring up the spirit during events such as Fall Rally North! You can find some examples and inspriations on YouTube or asking other members. Contact the DLT if you have any ideas!

d7w gofundme Childhood pediatric trauma, or unintentional injury, remains the leading cause of death and injury among children ages 14 and under in the United States. Approximately 8,000 families lose a child each year to a preventable injury. To address this need, the California-NevadaHawaii Key Club District is raising funds for the Pediatric Trauma Program of the CNH Children’s Fund to reduce preventable deaths and injuries to children. https://charity.gofundme.com/o/en/campaign/ division-7-west-key-club/d7wltg

Your donation allows us to prevent pediatric trauma by providing community outreach, as well as education and materials, such as helmets and safety seats to families living in our communities. Whenever your club raises money for ptp, please pay it via the GOFUNDME. remember, no gift is too small!
