Course: Design 1 - Design Elements Fall Semester 2016 Instructor: Ignacio Sardinas Study: î ˘e project is for earning about subtraction as form generator. î ˘e simplicity of the program is intended to keep the focus on the requirement related to position in the local region, the speci c site and the building relations to solar position.

Program: î ˘e building is located on the hillside overlooking a valley with a small village and the speci c ocean to the West. A building is designed as a place that people would travel to visit for the experience or as if the visitors were on a pilgrimage.

Course: Design II - Arch Design Spring Semester 2016 Instructor: Hirohito Kuroki Study: e culmination of what have been learned in the previous course to create an original design applying one of the six formal ideas that had been explored to qualify the ideas of clients.

Program: e project is a second home for an artist/musician couple that will serve as a retreat. e site is located on a hillside above the Palm Spring Desert Museum in California. e site is primarily composed of moderate to steep slope with a large portion of exposed bedrock and can be accessed only from the North via the road at the North-East corner of the property.

Course: Design III-Environtment design Fall Semester 2017 Instructor: Ignacio Sardinas Study: e purpose is to study methods of creating architecture by using the program pieces to generate an expression of a larger whole composed of many individual parts while at the same time expressing the individual parts. It also intends to require methods of assembling a group of disparate parts and to demonstrate that the program parts can be used to generate a very speci c architectural expression.

Program: e use of the building is an ecological/biological science research facility located on a constrained site in Huntington Beach California. e site is adjacent to Paci c Coast highway and the mouth of the Santa Ana River where it ows into the Paci c Ocean. e program requirements exceed the developable area of the site. To mitigate this problem the client has negotiated a lease of a narrow corridor of the air space and a larger area above the river. the landscape will be design as a local bird reservation as well as plantation study.

SUN and TIME RELATIONSHIP e use of the building is an ecological/biological science research facility; therefore, the plantation is an essential element in the design to highlight the essence of the project. For this reason, the building is oriented facing to the South to maximize the amount of sunlight for the courtyard as well as the roof garden.

Taking the idea from a neuron cell, the fountain, at the center, represents a nucleus of the cell; in the other words, it is the heart of the whole project. us, the fountain is designed so that it will always be illuminated by the sunlight through out of the day. Because the huge amount of sunlight received by the structure, the facade is applied to not only enhance the look of the project but also provide enough shade for the offices.

Course: Design III-Environtment design Fall Semester 2017 Instructor: Ignacio Sardinas Study: e purpose is to investigate methods of developing and giving form to written programmatic data while synthesizing the design into a diverse landscape ranging from agrarian to social all the while embedding it with a conceptual framework. e Disciplines to be explored include planning, architecture, landscape architecture and interior design.

Program: e clients for this project are three childhood friends and entrepreneurs who have come together to explore the intersection of viticulture, business and culinary experience. One of the three, is a wine maker. e second is a business person. e last one is a chef and restauranteur. e winery is located in the Temecula Valley in Southern California and bounded by a ridgeline to the northeast and Calle Contento to the southwest.

Course: Design VI-Advanced design Spring Semester 2018 Instructor: Hirohito Kuroki Study: e purpose is to investigate methods of developing and giving form to written programmatic data while synthesizing the design into a diverse landscape ranging from agrarian to social all the while embedding it with a conceptual framework and applying sustainable features.

Program: is project is a primary residence for a working couple. It contains a quest quarters which is not constantly occupied but should be connected yet private from the main house. One of the owners is in a wheelchair and is interested in removing impediments at home. e couple is interested in sustainability, permaculture as well as native California chaparral landscapes. ey also are interested in having 3 raised beds for vegetable cultivation, a small vineyard and a small orchard of fruit trees.
