Hyder Alikhan Hyder Alikhan is Division 3N’s new Lieutenant Governor. He has succeeded the past LTG, Ian Sims. During a PCM in June, members from Division 3N voted on a Division Mascot, which is now a Lion, and also Division colors, which are red and yellow. Dear Cypress Woods Key Club,

As the early bird date for membership information to be turned in to district board has arrived, we official have all our members for the 2016-2017 school year! I’m so excited that we all get to be in this amazing club serving the community together. We have already been able to be a part of so many things in our community and we are going to continue that.

We have a couple events coming up this month! One of them is help our very own Crimson Cadettes with their Fall Banquet.

We will help them set up decorations for the celebration and also help assist during the Banquet. Another event is helping out our neighbors Spillane Middle School with a 5K run Photo provided by Anushua Mantrala. they will be hold to help raise funds for their art department. We will get to be involved in a cause that will help young ones in our community express their selves in a way that is beyond the classroom.

This past month the officer team had a meeting with our club sponsor about ways that we can be involved with the Builders Clubs at our nearby middle school, Spillane and Goodson. Together, we thought of many service projects that we could all do together. It is an awesome concept that we as high schoolers can influence younger people to live a life of service just like we do!

The weather is definitely getting a bit colder, but after all, this is Texas and that could change anytime! But don’t let the weather change keep you from doing as much service as you can; especially since there are only 2 more months in the semester and all of y’all’s 25 hours must be completed. But remember guys, the goal is to go beyond the minimum and make a difference in our community as much as you can.

We are now starting our third marking period this six weeks. The last football game already happened and we are headed toward Thanksgiving and of course.... Christmas (despite some of us drinking Egg Nog since before Halloween). November is known as the month of giving and appreciation. Remember to always be thankful and be kind to one another. As Key Club Photo by Jasmine Sandoval proved, if everyone helps out or gives even the slightest of assistance, big changes can occur. Keep it up Wildcats!

I hope all of our members are having a great school year and completing their hours with ease. Keep you hours in check and take plenty of pictures at each event.

FALLing Back into Volunteering

Time isn’t the only thing that falls back in the fall Written by Bunsri Patel

Fall is here and so are all of the fun fall events that truly bring us together as a club and a community! This year is even bigger and better than last year, in my opinion, in the sense that we have more of those season-oriented events that truly excite the members. For example this year we have had everything from helping out at pumpkin patches to getting in the Halloween spirit and helping out at haunted houses and Halloween events.

Our members, will truly have the chance to get in the fall spirit this year through all of the great events our club is providing, hopefully they seize the opportunity!

As we all know, retaining members and keeping them active this far along into the school year is a very difficult feat, one that must be overcome for both the good of the club and the community. As the school year progresses members lose focus and volunteer less frequently and there is no way to stop this from happening besides having fun, interesting events and showing members that volunteering is important year round and that they are constantly needed in the community. I believe that we are doing just that because

we have very fun and unique fall events this time of year to give members a change from the usual concessions and school functions. This difference perspective will not only help members see that volunteering is exciting and not routine but also help them realize that there are a lot of great opportunities waiting for them both volunteering wise and not.

We are also helping members realize that their help is crucial to the efficient r u n n i n g of the community and its plentitude of events and functions by giving them a variety of different events all year round.

During this time of year we always have an array of different fall events to get members interested again and right around the corner is Christmas and winter e v e n t s

that will further add to this motivation. In order to get members interested in not only volunteering but consistently volunteering you must have something for them to be excited about or something for the to look forward to.

Overall, fall is not only a time of pumpkins and turkeys but also a time to give back to the community and expose yourself to new opportunities and experiences.

We are all fruits! I am an apple, you are an orange, he is a banana, and she is a strawberry!

We are all fruits of this multifruit bearing tree called Key Club. Now, you must think that I’m either a freaking genius philosopher or a freaking nutjob, but let me explain. Key Club is a huge international organization; its entirety is the tree and every tree has its branches -our district, and those branches have smaller branches - our divisions, and then those small branches have little twigs being our club! Our Cypress Woods Key Club is really just part of something bigger, something that some members don’t even realize and this is why Dcon is so important! At

Dcon, we get to see that Key Club really is this international organization that serves not only the community but the entire world! We get to see the big picture. We get to see the whole tree! At Dcon, we see Key Club’s impact on the world, in 34 countries with over 5,300 clubs and over 270,000 members.

Impacts such as the ELIMATE project to eliminate maternal/ neonatal tetanus (MNT) from the Earth.

But this impact really comes from Key Club’s members… us. All the service to the needy, hope for the hopeless, and funds for the helpless starts with us, but in order to impact the world, we have to realize that Key Club can and is already

impacting the world and that we can too. A bird would not fly to explore to Canada, if it didn’t know there is such thing as Canada. I know that’s a less than intelligent example, but it goes the same with us; we can’t impact the world if we don’t realize that there is a world to impact and that we have the capability to. In the famous words of Aladdin, Dcon shows us “A whole new world!” When we see this new world, we see ways to better this world and that is the beginning to change!

Dcon opens our eyes to the world and to possibilities – possibilities to help, to serve, and to give. Plus we get to skip school to go party with our Key Clubbers in our district, so go to Dcon people!
