Plays from the 1964 playbook!
Plays from the 1964 playbook!
Cyril is proud to have a great coaching staff that has made Cyril Athletics a top tier program in our class. Coach Tim Persinger is the Cyril Softball Fast Pitch and Slow Pitch Head Coach. In that time, he has taken his girls to state several times with 4 semifinals, 2 runner-up’s and brought home the gold last season in slow pitch.
Coach Trevor Knight is the Cyril Pirate Football Head Coach. He currently has over 30 wins making him the 2nd winningest coach in school history. (The legendary Wendell Whitman holds #1 with 61 wins)

For our older alumni, the CHS Fight Song brings back fond memories. Raynelle Teeter remembers an active Pep Club where members all wore uniforms (blue wool pleated skirts and white shirts) and sat together at games. They would do all the cheers with the cheerleaders and sing the Fight Song after every touchdown, in the 60’s. The Cyril Historical Society helped us get some information through their Facebook page, that you can view at facebook.com/ cyrilokhistoricalsociety. Within 10 hours, had over 40 replies with info & memories of it. According to Sharon Scoggins & Wilma Hiner, the CHS Fight Song was written in 1949 by two students from the Class of 1954, Carl Mahan with help from Ronald Madison. Cyril’s music teacher, Mrs. Bates told her class that they needed to write a school song and so they did! Most of the kids from the 90’s and all the way to the HS kids now, aren’t even aware that Cyril hasa Fight Song. Somehow it escaped our generation, other than the few people like Teri (Carlson) Williams & Tia (Schneberger) Martin who followed in their mom/aunt’s footsteps as Cheerleaders for CHS. Cheryl (Schneberger) Carlson, was so proud to be a Cyril Pirate and especially proud to be a Cheerleader and she made sure that her daughter & niece knew that Fight Song! Now, thanks to Mrs. Becky Thompson teaching her students every year, the Fight Song is one more tradition that the younger generation of Cyril Pirates won’t lose! When researching info on the Fight Song in 2017, Mrs. Gray asked the kids in her grade school classes if they knew what a fight song was and showed the lyrics on her screen. To her surprise, the entire 5th grade class started singing it and said Mrs. Thompson taught them. With the help of social media & an active Historical Society, hopefully this is one tradition will not be lost in the pages of history!
