45 years ago, Thursday March 21, 1968 Defence Secretary Denis Healy today rejected a suggestion that Britain’s sovereign base in Cyprus should be transferred to Malta. It was made in Parliament by Opposition Conservative Member Sir John Langford-Holt. He said a background of political stability was vital in an overseas base, and this was not and would not be provided in Cyprus.
