Hoffman leaves Major League Baseball as baseball’s all-time saves leader (601). He came to Cypress in 1985 from local Savanna High School. Hoffman played two years for the Chargers and head coach Scott Pickler for two years before moving on to University of Arizona. Hoffman is retiring with one National League pennant, as a seven-time All-Star, and a two-time Rolaids Relief Man of the Year. Fans of Hoffman now have five years to wait to see if he will receive an invitation to the Baseball Hall of Fame.
