2010 SEASON PREVIEW

Freshmen

Sophomores

“The 2010 Cypress College women’s soccer program has the potential to have a great season. Although a very young team they are filled with talent.” 2

C

ypress had a tough end to its 2009 season coming just short of the State Tournament for the third season in a row. The Chargers ended their season in a tie losing in penalty kicks in the second round of playoffs against Moorpark. This was the third season in a row that Cypress lost in penalty kicks. This season, Cypress is on a mission to turn things around. Head coaches Randi Martinez and Jill Toda are at the helm of the head coaching duties and have high expectations for this season’s squad: The 2010 Cypress College women’s soccer program has the potential to have a great season. Although a very young team they are filled with talent. Cypress’s 2010 team has many high level experienced club players who won many championships with their respective clubs. There is much hope that it will all come together this season. Two key additions to an already talented sophomore class are Madison VanDine and Adriana Hernandez. Madison VanDine comes to Cypress after spending her freshman season at the University of Texas at El Paso. A very talented midfielder with a ton of championship experience. Adriana Hernandez, a forward from Ball State brings

Cypress College Chargers Women’s Soccer

a goal scoring presence up top for the Chargers. Their division one experience and leadership will be a key component in leading this young Cypress squad. The sophomore class plans to improve on a sudden second round playoff exit and return cypress to a final four. Sophomore captains Jessica Murphy, Hina Lilii, and Vanesa Corona will provide the field awareness and leadership to drive this team. Cypress will play just five pre-conference games on the road the whole time including two in Northern California. The Chargers will then turn to conference play where they will start with Fullerton before coming home for the team’s first home game of the season hosting Golden West. The Chargers will aim to return to the top spot in conference after a second place finish last year. The marquee rivalry games against the Hawks will take place on October 8th and November 9th where Cypress hopes to avenge its losses to Santiago Canyon from last year. The balanced 2010 Charger team will look to improve on last year’s season, contend for a state championship, and live up to the history of success Cypress Women’s Soccer is known for.
