The Ultimate Guide For Your IEC Code Application IEC(Import Export Code): Essential for all Indian Import-Export businesses The Import Export Code is a distinctive ten-digit code granted by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade(DGFT). It is mandatory for all import-export units barring a few exceptions. It was introduced by the Government to make shipment tracking efficient. After the onset of the GST regime, the PAN number is the same as the IEC code, although the latter is issued separately.

ADVANTAGES OF HAVING AN IEC CERTIFICATE Besides being compulsory, the IEC code bestows several other benefits upon the holder.   

The IEC code can be obtained by a unit before starting operations and is unalterable. Neither does it require renewals. An IEC code holder is liable to receive benefits from the Export Promotion Councils, Customs and the DGFT. An exporter can become internationally recognized with IEC registration. This will be instrumental in expansion plans.
