OneofourFallBallplayershasabrotherintheNavywhohadnot beenabletoseehimplaybaseballyet.Hisbrotherhada48-hour leavebeforebeingshippedoff,sohemadethedrivefromout-ofstatetoseehisbrotherplay.Thisplayerisalsoavirtuallearnerin CY-FAIRISD,sohismomwassoexcitedhewasableto participateinanoutdooractivitywithotherplayers.
“IretiredonFebruary1,2015.In2017,mysisterpassedawayfrom cancerand,threemonthslater,Harveyfloodedmyhome.The result:Icrawledintoashelllikeahermit.IkeptprayingthatGod wouldhelpleadmeoutfromundertheshell.InFebruary2018,I beganvolunteeringattheHopeChestandwasassignedtothe RepurchaseDepartment.ThishasbecomemyHappyplace.I havefoundmypurposeinlifeafterretirement.Thestaffand volunteersareallfuntoworkwith.Lastbutnotleast,wesupport Cy-Hopewhichhasprogramsthatsupportandhelpfolksinthe community.” –HopeChestVolunteer

2020wascertainlyayearfullofadversity,butbecauseofourdedicateddonors,volunteers, staff,andboardmembers,Cy-Hopewasfortunatetobeabletoshinethelightofhopeand makeadifferenceinourcommunity.
Ourdevotedstaffhasdoneanincrediblejobatexpandingouroutreachwhilemostofour programswereonpause.Our2020annualreportreflectsthedifferencewemadeinthelives ofsomany.

WHYISCY-HOPENEEDED?
Cy-FairIndependentSchoolDistrictisthethirdlargestschooldistrictinTexasandthe22nd largestschooldistrictinthecountry.Overhalfofthe117,000studentsintheCy-Fair districtarelabeledas“economicallydisadvantaged.”Over50%ofthe91schoolsin
CY-FAIRISDareconsideredTitle1schools.
In2010,Dr.GodfreyHubertgatheredagroupofcommunityinfluencersconcernedabout thechildrenintheCy-Faircommunity.Cy-Hopewasbirthedtoserveasacatalysttobring needsandsolutionstogether.Wewereofficiallyincorporatedin2011.Ourgoalistobring hopetoeconomically,relationally,andspirituallyunderservedchildrensotheywillgrow intowell-educatedandproductivecitizens.
Cy-Hopebringshopetochildrenthroughmanydifferentprograms.Theseprograms providechildrenwithbasicneedssuchasfood,security,andencouragement. Underservedstudentscanparticipateinlifeexperienceslikesummercamp,playingona baseballteam,attendingbandcamp,enjoyingfieldtripsandotheractivities,orhavingthe fundingtocompleteDualCredit,APcourses,orcertificationtestinginhighschool.

Inanefforttopreventchildhoodhungerandtoprovideeachchildthe opportunitytosucceedinschoolandlife,thisprogramprovidesfoodfor economically-disadvantagedschoolchildreneachweekend.Eachbackpack providesachildwithenoughfoodtosustainafamilyoffourthroughthe weekend,whentheydon’thaveaccesstoschoolfood.In2011,theprogram startedwithtwoschoolsand80bagsoffood.

DevineVirtuosos,aCy-Hopemusicinitiative,iscomprisedofpassionatemusiceducatorsthatservestudents andfamiliesinNorthwestHouston.Wedevelopandimplementsocialandeducationalmusicprogramsto enrichstudents’livesthroughmusic.Theseinitiativesaimtoprovidestudentswithmusicalopportunitiesthat developcreativity,confidence,andcommunity.Wesponsoramiddleschoolbandsummercamp,provideassistance formiddleschoolprivatelessons,andhelptosponsortheCY-FAIRISD5th gradeChoralFestivaleachyear.
