CHAEWON
Hello,
My name is Chaewon Yang, a future designer who graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Interior Design in May 2024 from the University of North Texas.
I'm from South Korea, and my goal as a designer is to incorporate my international cultural experiences into every creation. A blend of various cultural influences is shown in my design style. It is my specialty to create places that are beyond borders by bringing psychological connection and aesthetically pleasing to places.
Recently completing school and my internships, I gained valuable insights into the furniture and real industry, making meaningful connections along the way. Alongside my academic pursuits, I was in a leadership role as the Marketing Chair of the Interior Design Student Alliance, showcasing my commitment to both design excellence and collaborative leadership.
Through my portfolio, explore how creativity, culture, and functionality are blended together. Let's connect, collaborate, and create valuable design together!

West Dallas Junior High School is a keystone school of the Dallas Independent School District. Despite its rich history and commitment to education, the school has faced a number of difficulties in recent years. In an attempt to re-establish its identity and create a more welcoming and encouraging environment for both students and staff, the school has experienced multiple phases of re-branding in response to these issues.

What techniques can be used to design the spaces for learning?
Designing for what students need. Whether students are interacting with people, information, or experiences, the places they learn should support those relations.
Connection brings us together.
Places to connect support a holistic learning experience for students. Where you come to know and be known – to belong.
Focus creates clarity for us.
Places to focus provide both instructors and students with a chance to balance collaboration with individual work.
Discovery inspires us to think differently.
Education is where a student’s most formative learning happens, and spaces that enhance a diversity of learning modes can play a key role in their success.
Restoration helps us find balance.
Restorative places create environments for students and instructors to recharge their mental energy. Restoration can be both active and passive.

Venerita is an Italian Cuisine restaurant that draws inspiration from Mezzacorona's Domenica Pinot Grigio wine bottle. Adorned with natural wind and vineyard illustrations, the atmosphere reflects the brand's elegance, while creating a welcoming environment.
With a core focus on Prospect and Refuge theory, Venerita is incorporated to create a space that offers both visual interest and comfort for customers. To balance the sense of prospect with the need for refuge, the dining area is designed with curvilinear furniture forms which evoke feelings of warmth and protectiveness in individuals (Dazkir and Read 2012)”. Using natural materials throughout the space such as wood and stone will also provide a sense of comfort and welcoming while reflecting the history of Italy (Dai, Xue, and Wang 2023). By providing a combination of open or private seating, customers have the ability to cater to their needs, which leads to a pleasurable dining experience (Dosen & Ostwald, 2013).

In typically overwhelming circumstances, effective way-finding systems contribute to a sense of well-being, protection, and assurance. Way-finding is a cognitive and bodily process and sensation of locating, guiding, or discovering a route to a specific location (Symonds, 2016: 2).
Information systems assist users in generating "mental maps" of the establishment and simplifying their journeys to the greatest extent possible.
By providing clear signage and accessible directions to help them navigate through disorientation and arrive at their desired destinations, way-finding systems can help people relax and provide guidance ("What is Way finding," 2023).

Pros Cons
• Clear circulation
• Centralized break and assembly spaces for maximum accessibility
• Departments strategically divided for specific needs
• Offering the view for all occupants
Office color schemes and furnishings that blend blue hues and terracotta are ideal choice. While terracotta brings warmth and a sense of connection to nature, blue provides a professional and peaceful backdrop. These hues can be used to create a wellbeing and productive workspace when combined with biophilic materials and appropriate illumination.
• Might not be enough spaces for 20+ private offices
• Given the concepts, there is a need for additional wellness spaces
