NEW DPI OPENS! But… Where’s Philly (and Adam, for that matter)?

Absences were the order of the day at the recent opening of the new “world-standard” Department of Primary Industries Head Office on Prince Street — officially named the “Ian Armstrong Building”.

FOR ORANGE

Talking POINTS

with BOB HOLLAND

Opinions are still widely divided over many aspects of the Covid-19 situation. Newswatch received another long and strongly worded letter from a reader this week making some grossly exaggerated claims about comments and opinions expressed in Newswatch over recent weeks, mainly in relation to treatments for Covid-19. Ais is the first letter that I’ve chosen not to publish and I told the writer that if I published it, Newswatch wouldn’t be big enough to handle the response from those who would disagree with his views.

Orange retailers feature prominently in a series of ads being screened across the Prime network this month, all part of our Hearts for Orange initiative. Ae ads look great and although they have a simple message, it is hoped they will encourage more people from around the area to come into Orange more oLen for shopping and to do business. Ais is just one of several promotions planned between now and Christmas and it’s hoped that more local retailers will get involved with Hearts for Orange over coming weeks. Any business wanting to know more should contact Amanda Spalding on 0479 179 779.

Still on that, Jeanine Bird has written more on the topic this week and this too is sure to further stir up those people who won’t have a bar of considering cures or treatments other than those touted by the Government and authorities. Birds-eye View is another good read this week, but as I said, it’ll depend on which side of the fence you sit.

Ae “hard opening” — before any staff have actually moved-in — showcased innovative features including “collaborative work areas”; open seating and lounge areas for staff to congregate for projects; and even an in-house coffee-shop; that are designed to reflect a more flexible work environment. “We don’t have traditional desks, we do have ‘agile workstations’ or ‘hot-desks’ as you may know them,” a DPI staffer explained. Notable absentees included the Minister for Agriculture and Western NSW, Adam Marshall who had “other commitments” and local member Phil Donato (from the Shooters and Fishers Party) whose actual “invitation” comprised a late-night text message telling him the event was being held the next day!

ISSUE No. 17

With the change of season, our trees are starting to bloom again, and the cold grey look of winter is starting to fade. It’s great to see and certainly not doing our economy any harm. Couple this with the glorious weather we’ve seen over recent days and it’s no wonder it’s brought people outdoors in their droves. It was great to see so many letters from readers last week in Newswatch, other people’s opinions are important. Let me encourage you to put pen to paper, as the saying goes, and send us your thoughts, as mentioned earlier, it’s rare that we don’t publish letters received.
