Important News From the Executive Director... Happy Holidays to Everyone! Thank you to all who served on focus groups and voted in the recent election. We’re going to continue to move forward in pursuit of excellence for the community. I am pleased with the positive strides and progress achieved by the District in recent months and proud of the dedicated staff who work hard to provide our patrons with outstanding facilities, services and programming. The CVPRD staff will continue to evaluate progress and trends in the recreation field in an effort to best serve residents, guests, and participants. The Board of Directors invites all members of the community to participate in planning for future facilities and growth in Carbon Valley. Board meetings are held the third Tuesday of the month at the recreation center. The Carbon Valley Park and Recreation District will hold elections for the Board of Directors positions in May of 2016. Both seats for the City of Dacono will be open, two seats in the Town of Frederick, and one in the Town of Firestone will be up for election to represent the three municipalities. I encourage everyone to apply. Please visit www.cvprd. com for a nomination form. As we wrap up 2015 and head into 2016, I encourage you to get involved in the community and be active in your daily lives. Take advantage of the many programs, facilities, and events available to you in Carbon Valley. There are plenty of opportunities for you to get in shape and have some fun. What is a Special District? Carbon Valley Park and Recreation District is a Special District – a form of local government authorized under state law and created to perform a specific purpose. The CVPRD purpose is to serve recreation needs through facilities, programs, and parks services for our constituents. The CVPRD is one of the largest districts in the state covering a 45 square mile area including the communities of Dacono, Firestone and Frederick. The Carbon Valley community is known for a vibrant small town community feel and being home to the fastest growing community located in southern Weld County, with over 25,000 residents. Sunday is Family Day!

Every Sunday the Rec Center opens at 12pm and closes at 5pm. Come on down after Sunday brunch for swimming, fitness and fun with the whole family. The pool is available for open swim until 4:30pm on Sundays. A paying parent or guardian is required to accompany all children. Admission includes full use of the facility for the duration of our Sunday operating hours. • Children 10 years of age or older may be in the facility without a parent/guardian, but must successfully pass a swim test to be unsupervised in the pool area. • Children 7-9 years of age must be accompanied in the facility by a responsible person aged 14 or older, and must pass a swim test to be in pool area without direct supervision. • Children 6 years of age or younger must be directly supervised by a responsible person aged 14 or older unless participating in an approved CVPRD program or activity (i.e. swim lessons, KidZone, etc.). • Children 13 years of age or younger must pass a swim test to be in certain areas of the pool (see Aquatics section for more info). • Children 10-14 years of age must complete the Junior Trainer program to use the weight and cardio room areas with a parent/ guardian (see Fitness/Wellness section for more info). • Children 12-14 years of age may attend group/aqua fitness classes with a parent/guardian and at the instructor’s discretion. • Children over 5 are not allowed in the locker room of the opposite sex. The family locker room is a unisex changing area for families with children and individuals with special needs.

Food and Drink Policy

No food or beverages will be allowed past the lobby with the exception of bottled water and sports drinks.

Payment For Weekly Classes

Classes that are offered on a weekly basis are to be paid using a membership card, a punch card, or the drop-in fee.

Right to Refuse

Carbon Valley Park and Recreation District reserves the right to withhold service to any patrons who refuse to follow district guidelines and code of conduct while in a district facility or while attending or participating in any district program.

Youth Weight/Cardio Room Policy

Children 10-14 must participate in the Junior Trainers Program. Ages 15 and up have full access to weight and cardio rooms.

No Tolerance

CVPRD is a zero tolerance zone. Stay off of the premises if you are under the influence of any drug or alcohol. This is for your safety and the safety of others. We are a bully-free zone. District staff members reserve the right to ask patrons to leave if under the influence or if behavior dictates. The staff & board thank you for your cooperation.

Customer Dress Code

Please dress appropriately when in the center. • Shoes and shirts are required at all times (except in the pool). • Non-marking shoes are required in the gymnasium, racquetball courts, and fitness studio. • Proper swim attire is required in the pool area, including trunks for males and swim suits for females (street clothes are prohibited). • Athletic attire, including closed toe athletic shoes, are required in the fitness areas. Pants or shorts with adornments (rivets, zippers, etc.) that may catch or tear workout equipment are not permitted in fitness areas.

Lost and Stolen Items

We strongly encourage patrons to bring your own lock or purchase one at Guest Services. Lockers are available for daily use for patrons to store personal belongings. Lockers are for daily use only, items left in lockers will be removed and placed in lost and found. CVPRD is not responsible for lost and or stolen items. Lost and found is emptied the 1st and 15th of each month.

Refunds

Full refunds will be given when Carbon Valley Park and Recreation District cancels classes or programs (special events non-refundable 7 days after registration). All approved refunds will be refunded to your credit/debit card, applied on your account or in the form of a check. Requests for refunds will take up to 2 weeks and are subject to managerial approval. Program Refunds: No refunds will be allowed after the 1st (7) days or (2) completed classes after the program begins. Unless the circumstances are stated in writing and warrant consideration. Refund requests are subject to a $5.oo processing fee. Pass Holder Refunds: Refunds will be granted on Annual Passes only. Refunds will be pro-rated dependent on use and a $25 processing fee will be applied. All other listed options are not refundable. Rental, Party, and Facility Reservation Refunds: Rentals, parties, and facility reservations may be cancelled one week prior to scheduled date for a full refund minus a 10% processing fee. Cancellations with less than 7 days notice will be refunded 50% of the reservation fee.

Returned Check Policy

There is a $15.00 fee on all returned checks.

Scholarships

Carbon Valley Park and Recreation District is a community centered organization, and as such we recognize the need to give back to our communities and promote activities that lead to a healthy lifestyle. Families must complete a scholarship application and have it approved two weeks prior to registration for any program. Scholarships can be used to pay for a single program or to defray the cost of multiple programs. Scholarship forms are available at the front desk. Awarded based on need, proof of income is preferred. Scholarships cannot be used with sales or any other promotional offering. Scholarships can only be used by the individual that was awarded the scholarship. Scholarships can only be used for youth programs, i.e. swimming lessons, youth sports, gymnastics, youth dance classes, etc. Scholarships cannot be used for passes, party packages, facility reservations or massages.

Room Reservations

• All facility reservations and equipment usage are subject to availability and prior approval. • Set-up, cleaning and proper supervision of participants are the responsibility of the renter. • Renters will be checked in and out of rooms. • Any damage incurred during a reservation will be invoiced and mailed to the renter. Payment of damage must be made prior to any future reservations or registrations. • Rental accommodations can be made during regular business hours. • The full reservation fee is due when the reservation is made. • Reservations are for the room only except when reserving a birthday party.

If you are interested in reserving a room, please fill out the reservation request form at Guest Services. Rooms are for large groups or gatherings. The lobby is for waiting, snacking and relaxing. It is not an area available for rent. Thank you in advance for being courteous to others while in the lobby. For gym rental/usage and information, inquire at the Guest Service desk at the Recreation Center. Gymnastics Birthday Parties

Enjoy 45 minutes of exclusive use of our gymnastics facility, followed by cake and presents (not provided) in our party room for 45 minutes. All paid participants must be close in age. Book your gymnastics party at least 2 weeks in advance at the Carbon Valley Recreation Center or the Carbon Valley Gymnastics Center. Reservations must be made in person. Party times are on Saturdays at 1pm. $130D/$140ND for up to 10 guests $8 each additional guest (up to 15 total)

Rec Center Birthday Party Package

$90D/$100ND Birthday party reservations include: • Up to 20 day passes ($1.50 each for additional passes) • 90 minutes includes setup and takedown. Volunteer Coaches Needed! Carbon Valley Park and Recreation District offers team recreational experiences for community youth that rely on the important assistance of many volunteer coaches. You don’t have to be an expert! All leagues are dependent on parent volunteer coaches. Coaches must complete free, online instruction regarding concussions in youth sports. Many opportunities also exist for assistant coaches to help. Any person who assists with any activities is required to pass a background check. Sign up today by emailing Megan at mzwart@cvprd.com. A voucher that is equivalent to the registration fee will be awarded to all head coaches at the end of the season that can be used for any future cvprd program!

All coaches, players, parents, and spectators that participate in cvprd sports agree to adhere to the Code of Conduct found on cvprd.com. Spring Soccer Leagues

Carbon Valley Rec Center will provide a positive recreational soccer experience for children from 3rd to 8th grade during the fall. All skill levels are welcome. Kids will develop individual soccer skills needed to improve their game. Games are played against Carbon Valley teams and other nearby teams on Saturdays and some traveling is required. Should there not be enough teams registered to run any league, expect more required travel for games. Approximately 6 games. U9 will play in a 6v6 format and U12 will play 8v8. Shirt included. Players are required to provide their own shin guards. If you have kids that like to run, jump & throw, this activity is for them! We will introduce and develop the basic techniques of track in an exciting and fun-filled environment. Participants will compete in CARA Track meets on Saturday mornings at various locations along the Front Range. Fee includes team shirt and all individual registration fees for CARA Track meets. Eligibility is determined as of December 31, 2015. Practices will begin the week of June 1st and are held two times a week. Program runs through early August. Must have a minimum of 10 participants. NEW! Tennis Lessons

Come learn more about the sport you can play for a lifetime! Instructors will teach participants groundstrokes, volleys, serves, rules, and a variety of important athletic skills. Lessons are offered in two 4 week sessions end of March-May. Please see listing below for dates and times of lessons. Participants need to supply own racquet, water, and athletic shoes (no sandals, crocs, etc).

CARA Tennis is to expose children to entry level competition and to encourage the development of players during the season, emphasizing sportsmanship. Season matches take place Fridays in June-July. Fee includes team shirt and all individual registration fees for CARA Tennis matches. Carbon Valley Learn to Swim Program

Program Overview: Our American Red Cross based swim program creates an ideal environment to learn the fundamentals of water safety as well as stroke development and refinement. Participants will be given a report card to track their progress and indicate if they are ready to pass on to the next level. Proper swim attire is required, no additional clothing (rash guards are okay) as this inhibits proper movement when learning to swim. Prerequisite: Child must be ready to participate in a group setting. Class Length: 30 minutes Minimum: 2 Maximum: 4 Turtle Age: 3-5 years old Description: Learn to float and glide on their own and begin learning basic swimming on their front and back as well as treading water. Prerequisite: Comfortable going underwater, can blow bubbles through their mouth and nose, and are able to float and glide with assistance. Class Length: 30 minutes Minimum: 2 Maximum: 4 Seal Age: 3-5 years old Description: Develop front crawl, back crawl, elementary backstroke, and start learning breaststroke and dolphin kick as well as dives. Prerequisite: Go underwater, float, and glide, make progress swimming on front and back, and tread water for 15 seconds. Prerequisite: Can swim at least 15 yards of both front crawl and back crawl, 25 yards of elementary backstroke, demonstrate basic breaststroke, and can tread water for 30 seconds. Class Length: 45 minutes Minimum: 2 Maximum: 6 Stroke Clinic Age: 5-17 years old Description: Continue stroke technique and endurance training as well as mastery of all strokes, flip turns, and start dives. Prerequisite: Can swim at least 25 yards of both front crawl and back crawl, 15 yards of breaststroke, 15 yards of butterfly, can perform all dives and open turns and can tread water for 1 minute. NEW! Aqua Bootcamp: High-intensity circuit that builds core strength, improves cardio while sculpting lean muscles. AquaFit!: Creates muscle strength and tone while also increasing flexibility. This is a higher-intensity class emphasizing aerobic and cardiovascular conditioning with the added benefit of less impact on your joints! Some deep water toning may be used. NEW! Aqua Zumba®: Safe, effective, fun, and challenging water-based workout that integrates the Zumba formula and traditional aqua fitness. Fees: $30 unlimited monthly pass, $50 10-punch pass or $47 for pass holders, $8 drop-in or $7 for pass holders.

Some classes have maximum participant space; see Guest Services for your class participant card to ensure your spot. Water weights, noodles, floatation belts, balls, kickboards and other pool-based equipment will be utilized. Water shoes and basic swimming skills are recommended for most Aqua Fitness classes but are not required. For classes that involve the deep end of the pool, swimming skills and/or floatation belt are required. Swimming skills are not required for H₂O Low-Impact and SilverSneakers Splash®.

Circuit: Circuit training is one of the most effective forms of training. Learn how to build your endurance and increase your muscular strength in this efficient and fastpaced workout. Deep Water Strong: Incorporates aerobics and strength training for a well-rounded and challenging workout! Swimming skills and/or a floatation belt are required. H₂O Turbo: Improve cardio stamina, build lean muscles and increase flexibility. Five part class: Intense cardio routine, upper body workout focused on arms and shoulders, Pilates-inspired moves for your core, building balance and flexibility, and ending with stretching utilizing yoga and breathing techniques. Rock’n River: High-intensity pace; works on cardiovascular, core strengthening, and toning in the river, with and against the current, to increase resistance. Use of the “log” pool and/or the slide pool enhances the opportunity for strengthening, flexibility and balance. RiverXtreme: High-intensity pace builds lean muscles and loses body fat. Swimming skills are combined with strength conditioning and endurance training. Movement is with and against the current. Colorado Swim Academy

Lifeguard Training-Blended Learning This American Red Cross course provides a generalized view of lifeguarding skills and practices. CPR/AED/First Aid for the Professional Rescuer as well as all course material will be included. As a blended learning course, a portion of the class will be administered online. The in-class portion will include skills practice as well as a practical and written exam. All participants must provide a valid e-mail address at registration.

Colorado Swim Academy (CSA) is a year-round, USA swim club that offers a competitive youth swim program for swimmers of all ages and abilities. CSA was founded on the premise of excellence in professional instruction and commitment to the athlete. CSA promotes sportsmanship, team spirit, self-discipline, and individual achievement to the level of excellence desired by and within the physical abilities of each swimmer. Each swimmer is continually encouraged to set goals, compete and go as far as their talent, commitment and desire will allow.

Prerequisites: 15 years of age by the first class; 300 yard continuous swim using front crawl and breaststroke; swim 20 yards, retrieve 10 pound brick from 10 feet of water and swim it back; tread water with use of legs only for 2 minutes.

Join the Carbon Valley 100Mile Swim Club. Simply keep track of the laps you swim during each workout and record your mileage on the tracking sheets provided. When you reach 100 miles, you will receive a 100-mile T-shirt, bragging rights and a chance to win a grand prize. Challenge starts January 1, 2016 and ends December 31, 2016. New participants are welcome to join the club anytime!

Swimmer must be able to swim one length of the pool unassisted using freestyle and must have basic knowledge of two of the four swim strokes. GROUP DESCRIPTIONS Reef Sharks Swimmers in this group learn the very basic swim team skills, including streamlines, stroke basics, and clock reading. Leopard Sharks This is a transitional group. Swimmers are introduced to clock management, lane management and stroke drills. Tiger Sharks This is our first competition swim group. The emphasis for athletes in this group is fundamental, competitive swimming skills and stroke development while learning basic workout habits and swim meet readiness. Mako Sharks This is our intermediate swim group, which places a strong emphasis on advanced stroke technique and developing focused and efficient race habits. Great White Sharks This is our highest level swim group. The emphasis for this group is developing good work ethic, continued stroke and technique development, goal setting for meets and a love for racing. Uechi Ryu Karate Do is a karate style of the Uechi family in Okinawa, Japan. It is derived from Pangainoon Kung Fu developed in Southern China pertaining to the three animal systems: Dragon, Tiger and Crane. Gymnasts may wear leotards, shorts, t-shirts, footless tights or sweats. Preferably no dresses, skirts, socks, footed tights or large shirts should be worn. Clothing cannot have buttons or zippers for safety reasons. Long hair must be pulled back. Jewelry, gum and candy are not allowed in the gymnasium. Refunds and pro-rates will not be allowed for missed classes; no make-up classes are offered. Refunds will not be permitted after seven days past a session’s start date.

Session Fees and Registration • • •

Classes run on 11 and 12 week sessions. Once a participant is signed up for a session they are committed through the end of the session. Priority Registration begins 4 weeks prior to the start of a new session and is only available to currently enrolled and paid participants. During this time, current clients may re-enroll or change their schedule. General registration for classes and waitlists begins 2 weeks prior to the start of a new session for new families wishing to register.

Payment Options: • In full: Payments can be made IN FULL for the session. This payment option is due at time of registration and includes a 10% discount off your child’s gymnastics session tuition. • Monthly: Payments can be made MONTHLY for the session. The first payment is due at the time of registration, the next two are due no later than the 1st of the second and third months of the session. If the 2nd and 3rd payments are not made on time, it may result in your child being dropped from the class.

Trip and Activity Policy • Pre-registration is required for all classes and trips. • Payment is due at the time of registration • All classes and trips are subject to cancellation if minimum enrollment is not met. • Arrive 15 minutes prior to departure time. • All arrival times are approximate. We will make every effort to depart and arrive in a timely manner. • No smoking on vans or buses. • An exertion chart has been established on the physical intensity of the trip. Exertion numbers are listed next to each trip. • Participants that need special accommodations must contact the Senior Coordinator at least two weeks prior to the activity. Refund Policy on Trips and Activities • If the class or trip is cancelled by the Recreation District, a full credit will be automatically applied to your account. If you would like a full refund please indicate your wishes when you are contacted regarding the cancellation. • Administrative fees of $10 will be assessed on any cancellation initiated by the participant before the deadline unless the space can be filled by another participant. • Cancellations initiated after the deadline will not receive a refund unless the space can be filled by another participant. Snowshoe at Eldora (5) Eldora’s Mountain Resort’s Nordic Center provides a scenic setting for snowshoers of all abilities. For 50 years, it has captivated audiences around the worlds. Bring a coat for the freezer tour. The U.S. National Ice Core Laboratory (NICL) is a facility for storing, curating, and studying meteoric ice cores recovered from the glaciated regions of the world. It provides scientists with the capability to conduct examinations and measurements on ice cores, and it preserves the integrity of these ice cores in a longterm repository for current and future investigations. Afterwards we will stop at Jus Cookin’s for lunch. Meals are on your own. Fee includes tour and transportation. Denver Mint Tour Trip (4) Touring the United States Mint is a fascinating experience for all ages and one to remember for a lifetime. Tours cover the present state of coin manufacturing and the history of the Mint. Visitors learn about the craftsmanship required at all stages of the minting process, from the original designs and sculptures to the actual striking of the coins. Fee includes transportation and tour. Come watch your favorite Rockies take on the San Francisco Giants. All seats are under shelter and near restrooms and food. Fee includes transportation and tickets to the ball game. Colorado Wildlife and Wolf Center (4) Determined to provide a safe haven for unwanted wolf dogs, Darlene created the Wolf Hybrid Rescue Center. During the first year of operation the Center was inundated with 15 - 20 phone calls every day from around the country from people who wanted to surrender their beloved wolves. This is when it was realized that the role of providing education was necessary. We will be taking a one-hour educational tour. Learn about hunting, howling, hierarchy and even communicate with the pack in a group howl. Fee includes transportation, escort and tour. Lunch on your own afterwards at McGinty’s Wood Oven Pub (price range: $10 - 20). The effects of severe weather are felt every year by many Americans. Weather warnings often contain the message, “Storm spotters have seen…” SKYWARN® volunteers are those storm spotters. Join the nearly 290,000 trained severe weather spotters across the country in keeping their local communities safe by providing timely and accurate reports of severe weather to the National Weather Service. The National Weather Service encourages anyone with an interest in public service to join the SKYWARN® program. Individuals affiliated with hospitals, schools, churches, nursing homes or who have a responsibility for protecting others are highly encouraged to become spotters. Training is free and lasts approximately 2 ½ hours.
