Hailey Young

A year in review of senior season

Celebrating The Olympian’s seniors!!

Editors:

Hailey Young

Hailey Young has been with The Olympian for two years, leading as editor-in-chief this year. Valuing journalism’s power to highlight humanity, she’s grateful for those who trusted her to share their stories and those who taught her to do so successfully. She has reported on a wide range of topics impacting campus and community, notably immigration, restorative justice, and DEI. Hailey is excited to be attending Yale University, studying political science in the fall.

Maison Jordan

Maison Jordan is a three-year Olympian student and editor who focuses on entertainment and video coverage for the paper. They are forever grateful for the opportunities The Olympian has afforded them, including awards and visits to the state capitol. They will be pursuing acting, writing, and cinematography for film and television in college, and cannot wait to move to Los Angeles and continue their life and career in the heart of the entertainment industry.

Victor Bahng

With three years in journalism, Victor Bahng spent his second as a copy editor and third as an arts & entertainment editor. He always enjoyed attempting to accurately and concisely present people and information in his stories. He will be going to Chabot Community College, majoring in history.

Staff:

Erika Rayo

In Erika’s first year of journalism, she’s worked as a staff writer. She enjoyed discussing editorial topics with the entire class, and in continuing to study communication/relationships between people in terms of psychology, she has decided to major in neuroscience. This will be challenging, especially as she attends Las Positas to fulfill transfer requirements, but her love for science and community will make it all worth it.

Lucas Villegas

Lucas has been in The Olympian for one year, and he is one of our video creators. His favorite thing about the class would probably be the Sacramento field trip. He was behind the creation of the Sacramento video and ran a room he called “the video room” for the school paper.

Yusef Scott

Yusef Scott joined The Olympian his senior year as a staff writer. “I’ve enjoyed learning about how to write articles that others can read and hope to use this skill in the future,” he shared. Yusef is attending the College of San Mateo, majoring in biotechnology with plans to transfer afterwards. Outside of school, his hobbies include movies, traveling, and texting.

Matthew Wong

Matthew Wong has been with The Olympian for three years, serving as a staff writer, news editor, and now editor-in-chief. He has covered a widerange of topics, from school policy to national news. He enjoyed researching and talking to staff and students for his articles. He will be studying mechanical engineering at Cal Poly SLO.

Gavin Peters

“Three years, and all I get is this bio.”

Over Gavin’s time here at The Olympian, journalism taught him that he is not a morning person. He has had fun leading editorials and making videos with Maison. After we graduate, Gavin has no clue where he is going or what he is doing, but he is excited knowing that it won’t be here.

Maxim Boychuk

Maxim Boychuk has been with The Olympian for two years, serving as a staff writer and news editor. He has really enjoyed writing news and opinion stories, and learning more about many current events. He was written stories that range from the presidential election candidates to protests at our state capitol. One of his favorite memories was traveling to Sacramento to meet a state senator. He looks forward to be going to San Jose State to study finance this fall.

Max Zhuze

Max Zhuze only spent a year in journalism, but in that short time, he gained invaluable experience as a staff writer. He covered everything from teacher protests to soccer games, constantly embracing the challenge of each new story. One of his favorite memories was visiting Calaveras Big Trees State Park to write about California’s natural beauty. Max is excited for what’s next: studying political science at UC San Diego.

This is Mikey’s first year in The Olympian, taking the position of staff writer. One of his best memories of the class is interviewing different kinds of people and learning how to be a proper journalist. His biggest takeaway from the class is learning how to meet deadlines and get quotes from people. He plans to go to UC Davis to pursue a communications major.

Angel Chen

Angel Chen joined The Olympian in her senior year as a staff writer. She has written about various topics, ranging from California Proposition 6 to Earth Week. Her takeaway from The Olympian was that news and politics intersect any part of life, inspiring her to involve politics in her future career. She plans to study Earth System Science on a pre-med track in college.
