Attention to detail and rigorous contract management have contributed to the company’s reputation for high performance and reliability.
Our team of local site originators carefully selects sites suitable for solar by taking into consideration respect for the natural environment and neighboring communities. CVE is in charge of the entire permitting process, from compliance with local bylaws to the respect of the local environment so that our solar farms can harmoniously blend in with the natural landscape. We work hand in hand with landowners to minimize impacts during construction and are financially committed to remove all aspects of the solar installation at the end of the project’s life. CVE is implementing pollinator friendly seed plantings at all its sites and is enhancing the landscapes around its solar arrays with trees and shrubberies to limit potential visual impacts.
CVE North America aims to support communities to develop competitive renewable energy projects that meet their energy and environmental needs. We systematically engage in early conversation with town representatives and participate in regular town meetings to address every concern and ensure that our projects benefit residents. We give priority to local households to subscribe to our community programs allowing them to save energy costs through bill discounts generated by our local solar system. CVE North America builds strong long-term partnerships with construction stakeholders and takes the lead in operation and maintenance to guarantee an optimal performance in the long term.
Community Solar in Massachusetts is driven by the Solar Massachusetts Renewable Target (“SMART”program. It is a long-term sustainable solar incentive program to promote costeffective, high-value solar development. The program provides fixed incentives and compensation adders for eligible solar developers. CVE currently has eight self-developed projects in operation under the SMART program, and one project previously qualified under the Solar Carve Out II Program. Our Massachusetts portfolio totaling 37 megawatts also contains several projects in late stages of development.
In 2022 CVE began construction on 70+ MWs of community solar projects in New York State, all of which are expected to be operational in 2023. The portfolio, which is a combination of self-developed and acquired projects, will participate in the state’s VDER (Value of Distributed Energy Resourcesprogram. New York’s Community Distributed Generation program has driven 1+ GW of solar installation in the state and has established NY as the leading Community Solar market in the U.S.
CVE is expanding its development efforts to several states in the Northeast, Midwest, and Southwest.
To create a new energy economy, it is critical to locate renewable energy in urban areas. We design, install, operate and maintain solar rooftop installations adapted to each customer’s needs. Solar panels are fastened to the roof of a building using a custom integration system and hooked up to the electric grid to help power local residences and businesses. Our solar rooftop solution is flexible and includes several options:
• New and existing buildings
• Industrial rooftops
• Agricultural rooftops
• Possibility to consume the electricity onsite
• Reliable source of revenue for the duration of the project
• No cost to the property owner
• Possibility for CVE to renovate and maintain your roof
• Onsite consumption options available through Power PurchaseAgreement
• Help the host company meet its sustainability goals with an installation that produces clean energy
CVE is committed to helping businesses and communities meet their environmental and energy needs while developing renewable energy projects in spaces that need it the most. Large parking lots of malls, warehouses or company offices are ideal to host solar canopies and provide many benefits to both the customers or staff and the host company. CVE will work with the property owner and host company to design an installation tailor-made to their customer’s needs, board expectations and branding requirements.
• Protect vehicles from the elements
• Reliable source of revenue for the duration of the project
• No cost to the property owner
• Onsite consumption options available through Power Purchase Agreement
• Help the host company meet their sustainability goals with an installation that produces clean energy
• Branding options available on the carports to advertise the host company
• Possibility to install charging stations for electric vehicles at low cost
Farmers and rural property owners are some of our closest partners in site sourcing and development. By working with them, we provide custom made energy solutions to allow them to improve their farming activities while minimizing resource use.
• Reliable source of revenue for the duration of the project
• Reduce or eliminate plant health treatment
• Produce yields in the off-season
• Locally produce clean energy to power farming activities
• Help reduce greenhouse gases and meet sustainability goals
Farmers and solar developers can now combine their skills to produce both clean energy and food. CVE can design and build solar installations high above the ground to let enough sunshine on the ground for the crops beneath to grow. In many cases, dual use solar (or agrivolatic) farms allow crop cultivation, animal grazing, and use of small farming equipment under the panels.
CVE has started implementing solar grazing as a pilot project at our Massachusetts sites. Thanks to a partnership with a local farm, a flock of sheep and ram lambs are now grazing around and under the solar panels. Sheep grazing on solar sites can reduce or even eliminate the need for mowing and the associated costs and carbon emissions, while providing some food and shelter for the animals.
CVE strives to empower businesses and communities to take part in the transition towards clean energy. For various reasons, 80% of American households cannot install solar panels to their homes Thanks to ambitious state programs, CVE is developing innovative projects to make solar truly accessible to all. Community Solar is a state sponsored program that allows residents to purchase discounted green energy produced on our solar farms without having to install solar panels on their roofs.
The process is simple: CVE builds and maintains solar farms in local communities. The electricity produced is delivered to the grid and powers homes and businesses in that area. Working with the local utility provider, we allocate solar credits to community solar subscribers. Those credits will reduce the subscriber’s electricity bill and bring savings of up to 10%.
In early 2019, CVE NA launched its Community Solar brand: Halo. With Halo, customers can save up to 10% on their utility bill and contribute to clean energy development, without the cost or hassle of having solar put on their roof. Halo was tailored to answer the needs of an electricity consumer base that is environmentally conscious, technologically savvy, and eager to save money.
• Subscribers keep receiving electricity normally, without any interruption
• There is no upfront cost and no cancellation fee
• Subscribers can simply cancel anytime by giving notice
• Subscribers save money while supporting local clean energy projects in their town
While CVE’s main goal is to produce renewable energy, we also have a long-term commitment to help protect the planet and its people. CVE ensures that all our activities respect sensitive environmental areas and provide natural habitats to local wildlife. We see ourselves as catalysts for positive change in the towns and cities where our solar installations are located. We want to be true to our values and do our part; to give back to the people who live there, by beautifying their community and preserving their environmental wealth.
For these reasons, CVE North America has launched its Green Initiative, our corporate giving program dedicated to improving the environmental awareness and natural habitats of the communities we serve. We commit to donate one dollar per solar panel installed for each of the solar installations we own and operate. The donations will go to environmental nonprofits local to our installation that work in the following areas:
• Tree planting
• Land conservation
• Protection of wildlife and biodiversity
• Education on sustainability and clean energy
For our first project in operation in Acushnet, MA, CVE assembled a team of local advisors to help us decide what organization should receive our donation. It was composed of an Acushnet Conservation Committee member, a professor of environmental policy at Dartmouth, and a student and climate activist, all local to Bristol County. Thanks to their help, we identified and chose The Buzzards Bay Coalition, an environmental nonprofit based in New Bedford dedicated to the restoration, protection, and sustainable use of the Bay. Our donation supports the expansion of the Acushnet Sawmill, a 19-acre former industrial lumber yard located on the Acushnet river that was restored and depolluted by the Coalition to turn it into a Natural Reserve.
Makes solar array visually pleasing with the presence of wild flowers
Reduces soil erosion and increases soil organic matter
Results in lower maintenance cost over time
Since 2019, we have “adopted” the Lenoir Preserve in Yonkers, New York, as part of our partnership with the Westchester Parks Foundation and annually contribute in excess of 200 hours of community service (tree planting, sugar shack construction, pollinator habitat restoration)
CVE North America strives to limit the impact of its activities on the environment. Our goal is to integrate impact analysis into our quality processes which encompasses the activities of subcontractors as well as our own. Control measures and remedial actions are part of our quality-driven approach. The ISO 14001 certification sets out the requirements for an environmental management system. By improving our environmental performance through more efficient use of resources and waste reduction, we have been fully certified since 2020.
Mindful of the necessary balance between clean energy development and land conservation, CVE is willing to do its part to ensure that our installations are providing improved environmental benefits to local communities and wildlife. For this reason, we commit to planting native pollinator friendly wildflowers and plants on all our solar sites to turn them into pollinator and wildlife habitats. Our goal is to combine clean energy generation with the protection of much needed biodiversity. Through our work with the University of Massachusetts’ Clean Energy Extension, we are ensuring that our management practices and seed selection are backed by robust science on pollinators. Six of our solar installations in Massachusetts received a pollinator friendly certification through this program.
