Visit the Clinton House Museum, this 1930’s English-style bungalow was the first home of Bill and Hillary Clinton, who married in its living room in 1975. The house now showcases the life and times of the Clintons during their Fayetteville years through photographs and memorabilia, including Hillary’s wedding dress and vintage campaign materials. Stop by Waterman Hall, home to the University of Arkansas Law School, where Clinton taught constitutional law from 1973 – 1976. Hillary joined the faculty in 1974 teaching criminal law.

Situated on the banks of the Arkansas River in North Little Rock, the Verizon Arena is a 370,000 square-foot entertainment and convention facility with a seating capacity of 18,000 and 28,000 square feet of meeting room space. The arena is considered the crown jewel in the development of the Riverfront that includes a new central library, a market, the refurbished Old State Territorial Capitol Building, and public parks on both sides of the scenic river. With the addition of the Clinton Presidential Library in Little Rock, the twin cities have become a primary destination for tourists from the state and around the world.
In addition to providing a venue for sports and concerts, the arena provides space for meetings, banquets, conventions and exhibitions. An 80-by-40-foot stage, eight spotlights, a public address system, audio/visual equipment and an in-house sound system are also available. The arena offers full in-house catering with a complete catering staff and experienced chef. Verizon Arena offers four private meeting rooms, a pre-function area with registration capabilities, and 28,000 square feet of arena floor space.

The USS Razorback, a Balao-class submarine of the Sandlance variant, was built at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery, Maine. Her keel was laid on September 9, 1943, and she was launched on January 27, 1944. The Razorback conducted five combat patrols during World War II, sinking Japanese vessels, capturing Japanese POWs and rescuing American pilots who had been shot down.

The Arsenal Building, a National Historic Landmark and one of Little Rock’s oldest surviving structures, was built in 1840 to protect Arkansans from Indian attack. It witnessed pivotal exchanges between Federal and Confederate forces during the Civil War and later became the birthplace of Five Star Army General Douglas MacArthur.

The historic downtown park houses the Arkansas Arts Center and MacArthur Museum of Arkansas Military History. Outdoor facilities include brick promenades, a pavilion, memorials, a bocce court and the scenic Contemplation Gardens. Arkansas Korean War Veterans Memorial. The Arkansas Korean War Veterans Memorial, located in MacArthur Park, is dedicated to ensuring that future generations remember the Korean War Veterans, as well as the veterans’ proud and dedicated service, the legacy they continued and the freedom they preserved. The names of 461 Arkansans killed in the Korean War and six Arkansans who received the Medal of Honor are listed on beautiful, black granite panels. The information panels surround impressive statues of combat soldiers and Korean children.
MOSAIC TeMplARS Of AMeRICA www.mosaictemplarscenter.com Established in 1883 as a fraternal organization, the Mosaic Templars of America provided insurance and other services to black businesses during the era of segregation. By 1900, Mosaic Templars industries grew to include an insurance company, a building and loan association, a publishing company, a business college, a nursing school and a hospital. The original headquarters building was destroyed in a fire in March 2005. Rebuilt to preserve the history, on September 20, 2008, the Mosaic Templars Cultural Center and Museum opened to the public as a state-of-the-art facility with more than 8,000 square feet of interactive exhibit and education space. littlerock.com
ATTRACTIONS MT. hOlly CeMeTeRy Mount Holly Cemetery was established in 1843 and features Victorian-era statuary, ranging from the more common angels and cherubs to a unique pair of two young girls, memorializing two sisters who died in childhood and are buried there. Those buried in Mount Holly include at least 10 Arkansas governors, three US senators, five Confederate generals, 10 Little Rock majors, composers, newspaper editors, a Pulitzer Prize-winning poet and Quatie Ross, wife of Cherokee Chief John Ross, who died while traveling on the Trail of Tears.

Old MIll www.northlr.org/attractions/old-mill Remember the mill with its turning water wheel that appears during the opening credits of the 1936 legendary movie “Gone With the Wind”? Surprise! It’s right here in central Arkansas. The Old Mill is a reproduction of an 1800s waterpowered grist mill and was built in 1933 by Dionicio Rodriguez. This 3-acre site, officially known as the R.R. Pugh Memorial Park and Pugh’s Mill, is more commonly known as the Old Mill. The mill, with a water wheel constructed of concrete but treated to look like wood, is surrounded by a road resembling an old wagon road and a rustic footbridge made of black locust tree limbs.

This Greek Revivalstyle structure is nationally recognized as the backdrop for President Bill Clinton’s 1992 and 1996 election night celebrations. Permanent exhibits include: Pillars of Power, exploring the history of the Old State House; Arkansas’s First Families, featuring 30 Arkansas First Ladies’ gowns; Grandmother’s Cottage, a handson children’s exhibit; the Arkansas Wilderness gallery; and the 1836 and 1885 House of Representatives chambers.

ATTRACTIONS QuApAw QuARTeR hISTORIC hOMeS www.quapaw.com A lot of Little Rock’s history — from frontier days to the early years of the 20th century — is encompassed by the Quapaw Quarter, a nine-square mile area which includes Little Rock’s central business district and adjacent residential neighborhoods. The Quapaw Quarter is most closely associated with the neighborhoods surrounding MacArthur Park, the Arkansas Governor’s Mansion and Central High School. Most of the city’s oldest buildings, including some that date from before the Civil War, are found within the boundaries of the MacArthur Park Historic District. Homes in the Governor’s Mansion Historic District generally date from about 1880 to 1920, and they comprise an outstanding collection of Queen Anne, Colonial Revival and Craftsman architecture. The Central High Neighborhood was established as a National Register Historic District in 1996. While the oldest surviving house dates from 1870, most of the buildings in this district date from 1890 to 1930. The majority of restored buildings in the Quapaw Quarter serve as private homes or businesses. Although they are not open to the public, they can be enjoyed from the street or sidewalk via driving or walking tours.

Stroll through Riverfront Park and let your mind and soul become enriched by the many works of art placed along the path to the Clinton Presidential Center. Inspired by the themes of President Clinton’s acceptance speech at the 1996 Democratic convention, these sculptures (including “Touch the Sky,” “Eagle of the Rock,” and “Harriet Tubman,” to name a few) illustrate many common values and the wonderful quality of life found here in Arkansas. Don’t miss the collection of small sculptures that can be found in the Vogel Schwartz Sculpture Garden.
Civil War Marker. Located in Riverfront Park, this is the site where the main body of Steele’s army entered Little Rock on September 11, 1863.
Junction Bridge. As an integral part of the Six Bridge skyline and riverfront development in both Little Rock and North Little Rock, the Junction Railroad Bridge for pedestrian and bicycle use, links both sides of the Arkansas River Trail. Access to the bridge is provided via a walkway (handicap accessible) directly behind the River Market pavilion on the Little Rock side and from Washington Street near Verizon Arena on the North Little Rock side.
La Petit Roche Plaza. Benard de la Harpe, who is believed to have traveled about 50 miles above the present sites of Little Rock and North Little Rock, described the area when writing about his journey. Denoted a landmark on the north bank of the Arkansas River, which he referred to as the “French Rock” (now known as “big rock”). The first outcropping of rock along the riverbanks above its mouth on the south bank came to be known as the “Little Rock.” Located in Riverfront Park, relive history and rediscover La Petit Roche.
Peabody Park: An Adventure in Play. Located west of the Junction Bridge and north of the Wellness Walkway in Riverfront Park, Peabody Park is a unique play environment. Designed with help from children, it encourages imagination, exploration and discovery. Some of its many wondrous features include: several outdoor and underground tunnels; large, native stones for climbing; a spray pad; a large slide and the Ozark Pavilion.
