Compare And Contrast Traditional Teaching Styles

No teachers are similar as well as no students learn in the same way. Every teacher has their own unique teaching style which is based on their educational philosophy, their classroom's demographic, what subject area they teach, and the school's mission statement. Up until now, teachers are looking for a system that will engage students in the educational process and will develop the students' critical thinking skills. Moreover, teachers want the classroom to be in order and in control, but they also want their students to appreciate the learning procedure. These teaching styles can be divided into two approaches – the teacher–centered and learner–centered.

Traditional teaching styles use teacher–centered approach. It includes a teacher that stands at the front and tells students step by step instructions. The teacher decides what is learned, when it is learned, how it is learned, and how learning is evaluated. In a nutshell, the teacher is an information giver and evaluator. The students are just there to learn through lessons and direct instructions. Their attention is mainly focused on passing tests, assessments, and evaluations.

Through the years, many successful people have came from the traditional setting. The earliest recorded occurrence of education proved that people learned in a...show more content...

Students are placed in the responsibility of their own learning and understanding while the teachers encourage students to be more independent and more exploratory. The teachers will foster a sense of autonomy in the learning process as they act as a source of experiences. In addition, as the students watch their teacher makes mistakes, they will learn those failures are part of the learning process. The students will soon realize that mistakes are natural in life and it will serve as stepping stones to

Technology Creating a Better World? Advancements in technology are supposed to make our lives easier. The time it takes for us to travel to another destination continues to shorten. Computers continue to advance at a rapid pace. Communicating with family and friends from another country has become easier than ever. It would seem as if everything is perfect. However, that is not the case at all. The irony of it all is that inventions that were supposed to make us connected to people close to us have actually had the opposite effect. Devices such as mobile phones, tablets, television, and laptops are just a few inventions that have us obsessed over them during our free time. With the advent of social media, we have become more engrossed in...show more content...

Members of society have been so entranced with keeping in touch with everyone, that we often neglect the people closest to us. We would rather post pictures, write comments, and video chat with other people than our own family members (Wallis 14). In addition to the obsession over cyber–space connection, the bond from sharing quality time with your family seems like a distant thing in the past. The "bond" that the internet provides is superficial compared to the one a person can build with people. Wallis best describes this when she says "If you're IMing four friends while watching That '70s Show, it's not the same as sitting on the couch with your buddies or your sisters and watching the show together" (Wallis 18). Turkle explains this by stating "We've become accustomed to a new way of being 'alone together.' Technology–enabled, we are able to be with one another, and also elsewhere, connected to wherever we want to be" (Turkle 4). Technology has given people a false sense of being together when they are really not. Another common theme that the two essays share is that technology and social media has made us less patient. Turkle attributes this due to the lack of face–to–face conversations. She argues "Face–to–face conversation unfolds slowly. It teaches patience. When we communicate on our digital devices, we learn different habits...we start to expect faster responses"

Compare Contrast Essay

This paper compares and contrasts two different literary works, "Country Lovers" written by Nadine Gordimer and "The Welcome Table" by Alice Walker. Both stories follow the same theme, or hidden message or underlying idea in a story. They are about ethnicity and racism which ultimately results in the death of a person: the infant daughter in "Country Lovers" and the old lady in "The Welcome Table."Racism has transcended generations, separated families and nations, and left heartache and grief in its wake.

Synopsis of Both Stories

The first story, "Country Lovers" is about Paulus, the spoiled, rich son of a white farmer and Thebedi, the daughter of a poor black worker. The story tells how Paulus and Thebedi grew up together on a...show more content...

The preacher who she apparently has had a "familial" relationship with throughout many years lovingly refers to her as "Auntie" and tells her that she does not belong here and this is not her church. The usher, too, similarly called her "Grandma". In "Country Lovers" the poor black laborers worked for the rich white people in harsh conditions.

Conditional and Unconditional Love

As mentioned, both stories tell of tough racial and discrimination issues that plagued the times they were written, although any separation of color was illegal. During those days, love was very much conditional, not unconditional (Bauer, 1992). Both stories are filled with the symbolism of love and hatred, life and death, good and evil. Despite the obvious love and affection in both stories for Thebedi and the old lady, the white men are still racist.

For Paulus and Thebedi, there is obviously a childhood attraction between the two although they kept it secret because interracial relationships in this era were illegal. Even though they know it is wrong to love each other, they still do. Their childhood love and attraction they felt for each other resulted in them growing up to be more than friends. The crime is represented in the birth of their daughter; therefore, Paulus must make her go away. Being the racist that Paulus's father has raised him to be and his need to cover up their crime, Paulus makes the decision to murder his own child.

Dogs and Cats

A study done by The American Animal Hospital Association say; that if people were stranded on a desert island, they would prefer the company of their pet. Dogs and cats play a huge role in our lives, weather it's a family pet or a human service pet. They have made their way into our homes and our hearts with their quirky and fun loving personalities. They are messy, clumsy and will poop where ever nature calls if they are left in the house too long. Dogs claim their territory by urinating on everything; it's a good thing they are trainable. They will chew on just about anything that fits in their mouth; it takes love and patience to raise a dog. But on a good note some dogs learn to fetch your slippers when ask for them. The dog is not known for being independent because they can not be left alone for long periods of time. They require walking and being let out to relieve themselves a few times a day. When alone they seem sad and do not play with their toys; unless they are chewing on something. Their lack of complexity allows the dog to enjoy the out doors like running, pick–nicks, car rides and swimming. They are not moody and are ready for anything. Dogs on top of being potty trained and fetching slippers they can be trained to have human service jobs such as; police, military, fire department, rescue force, Seeing Eye dog, explosive and drug dogs. Dogs have evolved from being wild and harming us to being our protectors and now aid us and rescue us.

People and cats have certainly had a chequered relationship. Revered by ancient Egyptians then reviled in the middle ages as witches' familiars, cats until recently had occupied a cozy, if often unnoticed place in our households, (Gaille Perry, Urban Animal Management Conference Proceedings 1999). Compare and Contrast Economic Market Systems In differentiating between market structures one has to compare and contrast public goods, private goods, common resources, and natural monopolies. All of these are major factors that need to be considered. Public goods are those goods in which all of society benefit from and are equally shared among everyone within. These types of goods can be consumed simultaneously by several individuals without diminishing the value of consumption to any individual. The act of public goods being consumed by several individuals and not allow its value to diminish is known as non–rivalry. Inexperienced teachers have a good subject specialism, this is generally fresh from their training, however not much practical experience in the classroom and dealing with difficult situations. "For many newly qualified teachers, while pupils provide the ultimate reward in teaching, their poor behavior was often the cause of the major low points". In some aspects there is very little difference in experienced or new teachers in relation to their knowledge in their subject, both should know their subject well and keep their knowledge updated on a regular basis. Also both want to make a difference to their students' life, to teach them to the best of their capability. However there are differences in how they teach their subject, how they come across to their students and how they manage their classrooms. More experienced teachers will be more confident in their approach, more prepared to deal with a variety of learning needs, have made mistakes in the past and learned from these to better prepare themselves for the future. Generally new teachers lack the confidence to teach which can only be gained through experience, they need to learn what works and what does not, reflect on this and incorporate this into their next lesson. New teachers do however have a willingness to learn, to adapt, and to mould themselves into a confident and knowledge teacher. The book begins with Mr. Pumblechook and Pip eating breakfast together. Pumblechook quizzes Pip on his times tables, and then the pair makes its way toward Miss Havisham's house, whereas in the video, they are already reached Miss Havisham's. Another difference arises through the dialogue of Pumblechook and Estella upon Pumblechook and Pip's arrival at Miss Havisham's house. When Pip and Pumblechook first encounter Estella, in the novel, the conversation takes place through an opened window, and Pumblechook does not enter the house (689), whereas in the film, Pumblechook and Pip enter through a creaking wooden door, and the young girl...show more content... Compare and Contrast Two Short Stories

Landlady by Roald Dahl and Chemistry by Graham Swift

There are lots of great short stories out there, but in my opinion, both 'Chemistry' by Graham Swift and 'The Landlady' by Roald Dahl are two of the most unique and effective stories. They share both similarities and differences throughout. Comparing and contrasting the way the authors use their inimitable writing style to achieve their intentions in the story will give us more idea how these stories are alike and distinct.

In a way, these two stories are similar because both the authors had carefully chosen the words...show more content...

In the beginning , Billy thought the landlady was 'terribly nice',which he was quite grateful to have such a nice landlady who give him a well–appointed service, but as the conversations go on, Billy was then frightened by her weird and creepy contents, he 'sat there staring straight ahead of him into the far corner of the room, biting his lower lip.' tells the readers that he's begin to frightened and suspect landlady, foreshadowing the readers that she might be doing something that couldn't be trusted by Billy.

In another way, these two stories are different because the authors have been using different perspective when narrating the story. In 'Chemistry', author's written the story in the word of narrator, mixing both the perspective of adult and young boy's. Line" My father's death was a far less remote event than my grandfather's but no more explicable, I was only seven." can be a good example. Almost the whole story was written in past tense, added to the effect of recalling. He's shown a grown up man recalling memories when he was back in 7–10 years old. This kind of writing style makes readers felt more personal, because the subject is 'I', when reading out the story, readers will feel like they're experiencing the narrators' life, as if they are the narrator. Also, another interesting fact about this kind of writing style is that if I were to look at the same events in other character's perspective, it might be another whole different story because

Instructions of How to Write a Compare and Contrast Essay

First look at the items you are supposed to compare and contrast. Do you understand them? If you are writing an essay outside of class, look them up. Start with your text book but also look at your notes from class, and even go and check them out at Wikipedia. If you are taking a test, and can't look things up, pause and think over what these things mean. The next two steps will help you remember.

Make a list of ways the two items are the same. This is the "compare" part of a compare and contrast essay. (For an in class essay, it will be good if you can bring in extra paper. If you can't, you can make some notes on the back of your blue book.)

If you feel they are more different than the same, start by comparing the similarities.

Now get to your point of view. If you arewriting a classic "five paragraph essay" you may want to spend a whole paragraph pointing out what is wrong with the arguments you made for the other side. If don't have to meet a specific number of paragraphs, you can just get straight to supporting your own point of view. Look at your list items that support you, and write about them all, and why they are important.

With compare and contrast essays, the conclusion will be a lot like the introduction. You summarize what you just said. You may find that some points came up in writing that you hadn't put in your intro. This is a good time to refer back to those.

The stories "The Lottery" and "Young Goodman Brown" both appear to show that human behavior and judgment can be flawed, even if the person's intentions appear good to them. There is a level of fear and underlying evil in Puritan settings in both stories.

The theme of the story "The Lottery" is blind acceptance of something just because it is considered tradition. In Jackson's "The Lottery", symbols are utilized to help show the theme. The name of the story, "The Lottery", itself is asymbol. The term lottery can be viewed, by most, as a good thing, a hope in winning, but winning the lottery takes on a very different, very dark meaning in Jackson's story. Also, the names of the characters are symbols as well. For example, Graves is a name that would portray death and Summers is a bright and cheerful name. Also, the name Old Man Warner would show tradition. Next, is the use of the black box and the black dot on the paper. The color black is showing darkness, evil, and death. The tradition of the black box is a symbol, in the fact that it is worn and faded, but still used by the villagers. Shirley Jackson conveys the theme very clearly through the use of symbols. In the end, the villagers are shown to be evil and murderous just because of tradition. The villagers do not seem to have a problem with murdering others within the lottery because it is what they have always done and no one is going to declare that what they are doing is wrong. This shows the reader that following blindly can have dangerous consequences. The theme of "Young BrownGoodman" is that the main character is basing his beliefs and faith on what others in his life believe or have faith in. The theme of "Young Goodman

Comparison and contrast means finding similarities, differences, or both. Comparison and contrast essays commonly have three purposes. First, they are important in expressing ideas. The way Barry and Britt support their points in their compare and contrast essays differ. In Batting Clean–Up and Striking Out, Barry uses lots of personal stories and factual happenings to explain his opinions. For example, to explain how men are worse at cleaning Barry specifically refers to a volcano eruption that happened in Pompei because the men, who were in control of the cleaning, did not notice ashes piling up around and in their houses. In addition, when describing how men are better with sports than woman he refers to a personal story; specifically a story about a dinner party that he attended where the men were glued to the World Series and the women were still chatting amongst themselves. These forms of examples are personal stories that offer validity. On the other hand, in Britt's Neat people vs. Sloppy people she uses more dreamt up incidences to explain her opinions. For example when explaining how neat people are "viscous with their mail" she explains, " All ads, catalogs, pleas for charitable contributions, church bulletins, and money–saving coupons go straight into the trash can without being opened...No sentimental salvaging of birthday cards or the last letter a dying relative ever wrote. Into the trash it goes" (256). As seen in this example, Britt uses lots of lists and possible incidents that could exist to support her points, but do these incidences

Providing these educational classes will help many people understand the dangers that are involved with a firearm as well as the safety precautions that are involved as a firearm holder.

The second step that will help gun control is mandating that people use proper storage techniques that will include government improved firearm storage such as gun safes and gun locks in which will help control who has access to the firearms and to keep them out of reach of children as well as inexperienced users. Another method that can be put in place to help society with reducing accidents involving a firearm is offering incentives such as a "gun buy–back program that offers incentives for people to turn in handguns, such as a cash payment, grocery store certificate, or concert tickets" (Hira.
