Personal Reflective on a Photo

Photos bring memories back to life. Each photo tells a different story, sometimes things you don't always like to remember.

The photo that I have chosen is of a young girl in a pretty formal dress. She is holding a packet of Minties, her favourite lollies. Her grandma gave them to her right after she performed in a concert for her dancing school.

Athol Williby School of dance, a place she'd been going to for 3 years, since she was 7 years old. Every Monday her mother would drop her off out the front of the old office building. She'd walk down the laneway round the back, up the old wooden stairs into a change room.

A change room where all theolder girls gossiped as she and her friend arrived....show more content...

As everyone was arriving the young girls noticed how many people actually went to the dance school. They were shocked; they'd only seen the older girls that gossiped in the change rooms before class.

As the doors opened and everyone moved into the building, a tall lady with red curly hair and a big noise came into view. She was screaming instructions at everyone; they just kept walking through the doors.

The young girls walked into change room 8. It was huge with ballet costumes on hangers. There were lights around the mirrors just like in the movies. The little girls felt very glamorous.

They were told to sit on the ground and wait until Marie, the lady that would be looking after and helping them get into their costumes, came.

The young girls sat and waited patiently, giggling excitedly about which costumes they would get to wear.

All of sudden like a gust of wind the door flung open and in came the screaming lady with red curly hair and a big noise.

All the young girls gasped. Marie as she was called stood over all the girls and looked down on them.

"Why aren't you girls in your costumes yet?"

Everyone looked down, no one said a thing everyone was too scared.

"Well hurry up them, it's those ones on the rack over there"

Everyone rushed over to the rack she had pointed at and started putting on his or her costumes.

"I'll be back in 5 minutes, all of you

Personal Reflective Essay

Self–acceptance is an extremely prevalent issue that numerous people struggle with. It is one of the hardest to surmount, for it is something I still struggle with to this day. Overall, my journey is a working progress as it will perpetuate to have its downfalls to test me. Like many of my generation, social media has played an excessively paramount role in our lives, both negatively and positively. Sources of harmless entertainment have also unintentionally encouraged self–judgment. Be that as it may, my perspective has been widely opened unexpectedly through a speaker's presentation as she showed us how to recognize our self–worth. Confidence and self–esteem are hard to acquire for some, but it should not be a quantity you divest yourself of. Self–acceptance of all insecurities and doubts is paramount since every individual has a unique beauty that should be cherished in order to pursue a life full of love and jubilance.

During my sophomore year in high school, we had a Career Day with several guest speakers. They had split us up by gender, the girls stayed on the right side of the school while the boys stayed on the left. We could not enter the opposite sides considering we had presentations concretely for each group. As the boys had speakers to discuss the development of a gentleman, we had speakers addressing topics relating to makeup and on how to be a lady. Towards the end of the day, my friends and I decided to choose our last presentation randomly. As we entered the room, there was this resplendent woman with a surprisingly cordial atmosphere. She addressed us as if we were her own children; you could sense the love she had for positivity before she even commenced to speak. She gave us a background story of her childhood during our age, for she too had struggled with accepting herself with all her insecurities. She described her several encounters with bullying and how it had impacted her self–esteem even though she appeared so vigorous and confident. I admired that about her the most, not once did she ever show the slightest bit of weakness, yet she too had relatable problems. Then she mandated us to indite down the worst thing someone had ever verbally expressed about us, even if it were of our own

Study and learning of students comes from the different approaches, strategies and even methods and principles. Learning is said to be the change in the behavior of a student or a learner. Reflective Poetry Essay

Composing poetry is an artistic expression; subsequently it's a way of conveying everything that needs to be conveyed and finding importance in expressions. Through poetry words are illuminated to form a picture, express feeling and share a thought in so few words. Putting down on paper all the emotions going through ones head is a way of re–living and remembering the overwhelming emotions they grapple with throughout their lives. Poet Michelle Williams states that: ".... humans have always grappled with overwhelming emotions. Throughout history we have expressed these emotions in many ways, such as through song, music, dance, art and poetry"

This is true because putting on paper emotions such as hurt and...show more content... This stanza returns to the solitude of the lonely wondering cloud. However, the poet has been changed by his imaginative experience involving the daffodils and the accompanying bay waters. Loneliness is now a peaceful solitude. William Wordsworth describes himself as alone and lonely, detached even from nature. Wordsworth feeling of sadness emerges from this poem.

In Conclusion, poets William Wordsworth, Percy Shelley and William Blake show how poetry displays the importance of human ability to convey emotions and say what they feel. Therefore the quote by poet Michelle Williams is true. In poets William Wordsworth "Preface" to Lyrical ballads, he describes poetic process as follow:

"Poetry is the spontaneous overflow of powerful feeling: it takes its origin from emotion recollected in tranquility. Thus through poetry the opportunity to recreate and relive the previously experienced emotion is conveyed. Get more content

Reflective Essay On Climate Change

Climate change is an unpredictable change in weather among the countries and states that make up parts of the world. Despite the tragedies of Hurricane Sandy, the ongoing California Wildfires, and the three hurricanes that divested Texas, Florida, and Puerto Rico, I believe those powerful climate events is the truly beginning of what the world is in store for. I feel like in a way not only is mother nature sending signals, but so is God. The last natural disaster North, South, and Central America are waiting for is the Tsunami that will wash away our humanity. However, one object that will vanish our entire existence before God does is the bomb Koreans will soon erupt on our soil. To fight for our lives and planet, as humans we should take better care of our environment before it all comes crashing down like a domino effect.

Climate change has affected social classes by targeting low–income communities in pollution industries around the areas just out of convenience. Communities of both colored and low–incomed class are located near hazardous waste sites due to not being able to afford living in a much safer environment. Since the government views poor people as despicable human beings, why not make their lives any more suffering than it already is? In the future, I predict that the 4 "ism's" Get

Before I had started the nursing program, if I was asked about patient safety my first thoughts would be, what could I do to the prevent the patient from falling, since then I have come to realize that patient safety encompasses so much more. At last my last clinical we had care of the a gentleman who spoke no English, he would just look at us and smile, If it won't for the use of the interpreter I can see how this patient care would have been affective. Over the course of this preceptorship, I have written a few different journals with the nursing process as my topic, the reason for this is because the nursing process is everywhere and has become a part of my day to day life, not just during my different clinicals over these past couple of years, it has spilled over into work, school work assignments, and home life, as well as. I now find myself assessing everything that needs to accomplish throughout my day and developing a plan of action, setting priorities to works towards their completion. Questioning and challenging my assumptions and attitudes about critical thinking is a new process for me, but I do appreciate that to develop and enhance my assumptions and other mindsets it is an important undertaking. Looking at what we hold to be true is an endeavor well trenched into us as we evolved. "The real value of critical thinking is that it's been at the root of all human progress" (Rabinowitz, 2015). Being challenged on my thinking is difficult, but once I got through the difficulty I realized it was for my betterment as a student and as a teacher. My prior experience as an undergraduate in early childhoodeducation with Bloom's focused mainly on the cognitive domain and thus I cannot recall the affective or psychomotor domains being addressed. However, as I began to understand that "the committee identified three domains of educational activities or learning" (Bloom, 1956 as cited by Clark, 2015), I realized that I did have assumptions and that they were being challenged. First of all, I did assume that Bloom's focus on cognitive development devalues the importance of other domains and secondly that Bloom's Taxonomy is only used by educators in K–12 and college. Interestingly, both have since been challenged and changed through my readings as "it is important to note that the most common usage of Bloom's Taxonomy focuses on cognitive learning skills rather than psychomotor or affective skills, two domains that are crucial to the success of health

How to write a reflective essay by Shadi Farid

A reflective essay is essentially an essay designed to emulate past experiences or occurrences in writing form. Most reflective essays are to show the reader changes and evolutions of yourself or certain aspects about yourself, so there is a constant change of tenses during the essay between past and present. During this essay I will be describing the most important parts of writing a reflective essay and all the key elements that should be included.

Like any essay you would write, reflective essays should also be structured. It's very easy, especially when talking about yourself, to simply regurgitate words with no planned structure or outline. The most important part about the essay is to...show more content...

For the essay to be perceived as reflective, first–person will be heavily used for the writer to convey 'self' to the reader, and because it's mostly about yourself there will be a more subjective approach with use of emotional language to effectively portray change in one's self. Although a lot of the language used will be subjective, it's also crucial for the write to include objective language to demonstrate academic objectivity, providing facts with references is necessary to backing up any opinions you might have about yourself or past self. As a reflective essay can be highly opinionated, it's important to incorporate hedging language along the way, as it's less likely for the reader to have conflicting opinions. Personally, when writing a reflective essay or report I would make use of active and passive language, to focus my writing on either the subject or action happening. Alternating between active and passive allows you to sound less repetitive in your writing as well as emphasise the focus of the writing to the reader.

As identified by Hatton and Smith (1995) there are four levels of reflection and in order to write a good reflective essay each of these four levels must be reached. The first level is descriptive writing, which is the basis of your essay and lays out your structure's skeleton. Next if the descriptive reflective, which is the deeper consideration using descriptive language. Then

This essay will review the literature to critically explore the value and purpose of reflective practice. There has been a rapid increase in the ides of critical reflective practice over the last few decades, (Gould, 2004). Before we look at the value and purpose of reflective practice, it is important to take in account 'reflective practice' carries multiple meanings from the idea of professionals engaging in self–analysis to that of engaging in critical dialogue with others. For example, with reference to teacher education, Larrivee, (2000) argues that reflective practice is fusing together personal beliefs and values into a professional identity whereby critical reflection can take place without staying trapped in unexamined assumptions and expectations of our professional practice. Therefore, from this, it can be concluded that as a teaching professional, it is important to develop reflections on ones' professional and pedagogic knowledge to set aspirational goals for a continuing personal and professional development, in other words, it is a way of life.

Schon (1983), identifies two types of reflection; reflection–on–action (after–the–event thinking) and reflection–in–action (thinking while doing). This clearly distinguishes that reflection can occur whilst the action is carried out as it can still benefit the situation rather than reflecting on how things will be done differently for next time. This tool can be effective as it will allow the professional to assess

Reflective Literature Review

Proficient writing is an essential skill in all aspects of academic and professional achievement. English 101, Introduction to Composition and Rhetoric, provided the framework to good writing, teaching me composition and rhetoric fundamentals, polishing up my grammar and style, and expressing a clear message. English 102, Composition, Rhetoric, and Research, continued to build on the skills I learned in English 101, focusing on the subject matter research process and employing various rhetorical and literary devices to better express a clear message to the reader. The course also improved my critical thinking capacity, allowing me to culturally evaluate my target audience, present logically flowing arguments using appropriate language and structure, and critically reviewing my writing projects for content and expression. Every writer inherently knows there's always room to improve and I hold fast to this mindset in all academic, professional, and personal writing projects. English 102 has both challenged and inspired me to grow into a much better writer than before I began the class, providing the necessary skills to be not just a good writer, but a great writer. Most of my English 102 writing projects are rhetorical arguments, intended to persuade the reader in one direction or another. Reflecting on the many skills I honed in English 102, my predetermined use of rhetorical strategies (ethos, logos, pathos), developing a concise thesis statement, and clearly defining

During the interview I learned various things about how a person who once was dreaming of a career worked hard to make that dream closer and closer to reality. I always thought about jobs as boring, stressful, and tiring ways to make money to sustain one's life. But from this interview experience I have learned that it isn't always and doesn't have to be that way. It is important for someone to pick a job they want to do, and if they don't like it, that's okay as long as they are willing to obtain that burning determination and motivation to study and develop different variety of newly introduced skills to accomplish what they want to do for a living. I realized that working in a job that you don't enjoy doing isn't necessarily bad. Different jobs require different skills and knowledge in different fields/areas. A person who switched jobs multiple times (not because they got fired) has a higher possibility of having more skills and experiences on different types of work, which causes the gap between the doors of opportunity to widen, enabling that person to choose from a wide variety of different job options that they want to do and be content with. From a student's' point of view, just the thought of getting into a job that you dream of seems difficult and challenging. When we look at what we want to do when we grow up, we see a long road ahead of us with constant obstacles of traffic jam (you have to compete with different people who are closer to the destination than you

Examples Of Academic Reflection

During the whole process of designing the IMC plan for HP Sprocket in this semester, I have earned valuable experience about teamwork, and I have learned lessons not only from class, but also from the whole working process. First of all, I have to admit that this group is one of the best groups I've ever had, I used to think that only failed experience helps people learn and grow. However, this time in a well–organised group, I found that I was wrong, positive experience contributes as well. This essay will reflect what I have learned, and it will be mainly divided into two parts: academic reflection and experiential reflection.

Academic Reflection

In an IMC plan, separate segment needs to cooperate with each other through organisational communications in order to ensure that audiences can receive a same key message from different channels (Ots and Nyilasy 2015, 134–135). Personally, I feel it is perfectly understandable as a first–time IMC practitioner. In this group work, because we do not have much time to discuss the "BigIdea" at the very beginning, we decided to divide the work first and then combine them together to find out the "Big Idea". However, I found that I cannot come up with useful strategies without effectively communicating with my teammates about our goal for this plan. After we have finished our first draft and uploaded it to Google Drive, we all agreed that this is a weak plan, because the messages we try to deliver in each piece do not have much in common.

As Percy (2013, 2–3) pointed out, both the key and the goal of IMC planning are "to deliver a consistent message". This made me think we might be wrong at the aiming stage. In this scenario, assigning work without figuring out the requirement of an IMC plan is the problem of our group, and I need to learn that figuring out the main requirements and setting a clear goal are essential steps for innovative projects like an IMC plan. Because they can improve both individual's task performance and group's working efficiency (Hoegl and Parboteeah 2003, 4). There may have certain groups that can perform well without cooperating tightly, like a calculation group, but IMC group is definitely not one of them. Which reminds me that in the

Reflective Essay This fall semester in ESL 91has been pretty interesting, and so far successful. The main object of this semester was to improve our essay writing. We were taught various lab techniques that helped us to improve our English writing skills, such as using appropriate verb tense and how to write a research paper with a works cited. Through my work on the research paper I have learned how to write in an academic style, how to find appropriate sources from an academic database, and how to cite my sources. Most of all, I can say that my reading skills have improved because the research for our papers required me to do a lot of critical reading. When I first started the class I was struggling a lot. Since English is my second language, I had many stressful moments that made me think about dropping my classes. But when I thought about my future, I just kept studying even harder, waiting for my performance to improve. As a result, I felt like every time I wrote an essay, it got easier, which tells me that I'm on the right path. In addition, this class has helped me improve my grammar, taught me an important life lesson about sticking on my goal and helped me to enhance my computer skills In the beginning of the class I had many problems with grammar and verb tense usage, primarily because my home country does not speak English even the alphabet is totally different. When I went to high school in Ethiopia, I never had to write an essay, or even a paragraph. Therefore,

Reflective Essay on College Writing

This semester was my very first semester as a college student. Being the first, it was probably the semester I would learn the most in. Also, in high school, we would have weeks to pick a topic, create a thesis, outline the paper, write the paper, and then revise the paper. In college, the time restraints are not quite as lenient. I definitely learned a great deal from our discussions about this book. I really did not like it at all until the class sat down and analyzed the many levels Conrad addressed in his story. I thought the endless paradoxes in the book, once brought to light, were actually very interesting. My favorite section, however, was the poetry unit. I really enjoyed the poem ?The Blues? by Billy Collins the most because of my respect for music. I think Collins really makes a point in his poem about just how important music is and how it allows people who are very different to connect on many levels. I also loved ?Love Calls Us to the Things of This World? by Richard Wilbur. The imagery in this poem was absolutely amazing, and I adored how he made the ordinary things seem mystical with his words. I loved how the laundry became angels. If only we could look at the world from that point of view more often, it would be a much happier place.

The criticisms in college have even been somewhat enjoyable and interesting to read. I think I began to like the stories and poems we read in class more and more as we discussed them and looked at different authorities? opinions. I found a lot of the information in the databases very useful. For the Antigone research project, the JSTORS database gave me hundreds of articles dealing with my topic.
