Roanoke: My Neighborhood
I only lived in Roanoke, Virginia for about two years, but it was my altime favorite place I've ever lived. It was an old neighborhood with sizable colonial houses and nearly all of the houses in that area had big front porches. All the streets were lined with giant, old maple trees. It was truly a picture book southern neighborhood. My house had an alley next to it where I rode my bike and used to go to my friends houses. About four blocks down the street was a restaurant called fork in the alley, a cupcake bakery which you could always smell the sweet cupcake aromas from a block away, and a Seven 11 where me and my friends used to go get slurpees. All the neighbors always said hello to each other and always had get togethers. In my neighborhood...show more content...
It was actually a quite steep and high hill because our neighborhood is positioned on the side of a mountain. There was ice on the street under the snow on the street so we didn't have to worry about cars. Chess and I climbed onto the sled and pushed. We flew. The ice under the snow made us go so fast so by the timed we stopped we were about a block away from the base of our streets hill. The other kids were astonished. Once Chess and I joined all them they cheered and started their way up the hill to join the fun. We made so much noise that all the other neighbors like our babysitters Julia and Sara Lowen. Our Roanoke "grandparents" Bill and Mary Ellen came out too along with all our parents and other various neighbors. It was like a big unplanned party which are the best kind. At lunch Mary Ellen brought us all out hot chocolate while all the parents brought out various lunch items for everyone to enjoy. It was so fun. All the adults were standing talking on the sidewalk while me and my friends were all sleding. Some adult even joined the sledding fun too. After a while we got a tad tired of sledding so everyone banded together including the adults to make a giant igloo in the sidewalk. It was huge! We were in the middle of a big snowball fight when we heard the dreaded sound. A snow plow. Chess and I looked at eachother and we were thinking the same thing.

My Neighborhood
When I tell other students from New York City that I live in Bensonhurst, they often tell me they have never heard of it. Often, I have never heard of the neighborhood they live in, even though we all live in the same city. I think we all live in and interact in our respective bubbles, and besides the periods we spend at work or school, we tend to keep ourselves exclusive to people outside of them. There is nothing wrong with being selective with who you interact with, but those self–isolating behaviors encourage ignorance, especially during periods of rapid change in the neighborhood.
My neighborhood is actually very aesthetically pleasing. The name of my neighborhood, Bensonhurst, is actually shortened from "Bensonhurst–by–the–Sea," which is what a developer named the resort neighborhood in order to sell more beachfront property. The aforementioned sea is the Atlantic Ocean, though the sandy "bay" almost every avenue in the neighborhood has in its street name (e.g. Bay Parkway) has been paved over to make roads and sidewalks (Frishberg). Still, there are remnants of its coastal–retreat past; there are benches, trees, walkways, and parks right near the ocean. There are also playgrounds by every elementary school, and a city park or green space if there are no elementary schools right nearby. Backyards, privately–owned plots of nature, also play an important role in my community. Most families in my neighborhood have backyards, front yards, or both, and place value in

My Neighborhood
There are various influences in everyone's lives while growing up. I believe the greatest of these influences is the neighborhood you grew up in. I grew up in a quite large, welcoming neighborhood. While living in this neighborhood, I was outgoing and remarkably talkative. Making friends became second nature to me. Playing outdoors from sunrise to sundown playing sports or exploring the outdoors with my friends became a daily routine for me. I was outgoing, talkative, and active. I believe this is the result of the neighborhood I grew up in. Growing up in a massive neighborhood magnificent. My neighborhood was flooded with kids around my age to hang out with. Occupying the edge of this neighborhood was a large park where the neighborhood's kids and I would spend most of our time eliminating their boredom. When this park would not satisfy our needs, there were vast amounts of open fields available for our amusement. In this field, the neighborhood kids and I had various uses such as playing soccer, football, or even racing. This neighborhood ensured I would never be bored. In this neighborhood, I developed into an outgoing, very talkative kid. In this neighborhood, I felt as if I became a pure extrovert. I believe that growing up in this neighborhood became an immense influence on my personality. Experts say neighborhoods influence various characteristics of developing children and teens. According to Jeanne Brooks–Gunn professor of child development at Teachers College et

Where I live is one of the greatest neighborhoods in the city to live in; however it does have its draw backs. Importantly it has nearly everything a resident might want, beautiful picturesque scenery, proximity to shopping, and many of the cultural centers. Nevertheless the roads can be some of the most congested in town, and the streets are not safe to walk late at night. Fortunately, I wake every morning to the most beautifulsun lit house. I sit on my porch sipping coffee, while I drink in an atmosphere that steals my breath away. Rolling hills lay before me that undulate until they crash into golden purple mountains. Oh how they are covered in spectacular fauna, ever blooming foliage, and trees that are heavy with pungent fruit....show more content...
The Mexican tile roofs jump out at your eyes, until the gorgeous iron gates of other estates snatch your attention. I can at times be overwhelmed with the feast before my eyes. My favorite structure by far is the towering ruins of the old sugar plantation. The words ruins, sugar, and plantation alone are enough to conjure up the most fascinating stories within ones imagination. I can see the bones of an age past; still standing before me to mourn, and dream about. I live in a grouping of villas where a restaurant and pool facilities are being constructed. I smell fresh sawn mahogany as the carpenters make bars, counters, and doors. I hear stone masons chipping at tiles, and the scraping sounds as they pull out the mortar to lay them. Sometimes in the morning I pull on running sneakers and jog down to Kmart to grab some household items. Then I might bop over to AT&T to pay my cell phone escaping the crowds and long lines that form later in the day. The bank tellers are also so much nicer in the morning before rude customers have agitated and frustrated them. On Sundays my family and I take in concerts and shows for free. We sit on the lawn that adorns the hill behind our house which overlooks the Center for Performing Arts. Whether it's paying bills, shopping for pleasure, or enjoying a cultural affair the convenience of it all is another reason I love my neighborhood. Never the less our royal neighborhood does have some less desirable elements. Most

My Neighborhood
Where you grow up decides what you are going to be for the rest of your life. To describe the neighborhood that I grew up in, a lot had to do with the environment that was around us. I grew up with my brother who taught me a lot about how to behave around people and at school. Anyways very early on in our childhood we became best friends with the neighbors down the street "the Johnson's". My good friend was Louie who is a year younger than me and my brother George hung out with Riley who was a year older than him. I was better friends with Louie than George was with Riley, our parents were also good friends, but I spent almost all my summer days, and most weekdays after school at their house. Me and Louie played everything and did just about everything that kids did. We both had big imaginations and we both liked to adventure. We lived in a very kid friendly neighborhood due to the park behind my house which was only separated by a forest. We built all sorts of forts and came up with so many games around my pond which in total is the size about two football fields. My Dad and I make a rink every year out on my pond and both of our family's play hockey so that is always fun and competitive. We slowly, as kids do, got more mature and our games became less of a made up joke but more as a project around the neighborhood. Growing up in the type of neighborhood that I did really made it easy for me to be successful, I never had anything in my neighborhood that could Get

Home is a place that most people consider their haven, where they can relax after a hard days work, enjoy being with family, and spend the weekends and summers outside. At the same time, being part of the neighborhood and getting to know the people who live around you can also make a neighborhood enjoyable. However, when there are certain neighbors who insist on making life difficult, learning to deal with these rude neighbors can make the situation a little easier to bear.
Neighbors often borrow things from each other, which can be anything from a grocery item to something of greater value. While some things do not need replacing, other things such as tools or appliances definitely need to be returned. When a neighbor keeps the...show more content...
This can really be a problem and cause hard feelings. Therefore, bringing it to their attention and asking them to refrain from letting their animal roam free is usually the proper thing to do. Asking them to clean up their pet's mess and thanking them in advance is another way of getting the message across.
Noise is sometimes an issue with neighbors who live next door, especially when it occurs in the wee hours of the night. Loud music that can be heard all the way across the street or even outside of the home is very disrespectful, especially when everyone is trying to sleep. The only choice is to get dressed, knock on the neighbor's door, and explain to them that the noise is so loud that it is keeping you and your family awake. Even if you wait until the next morning, it is still important to relay the message in a courtly fashion.
Many neighbors will perhaps have parties from time to time, yard sales or even other family members who may visit. However, it is up to the neighbor to make sure your property is not used for a parking lot, or that your car, driveway or mailbox is not blocked. While asking in advance as a favor is one thing, taking it for granted that it is "okay", and having it happen often, is being rude. At the same time, being aggressive, demanding and causing a scene could perhaps be the beginning of a feud. Instead, phoning the
