Yes, there are many points that are repeated at every formation which I have heard many times but there are often certain things that are stressed some weekends more than others due to situations that have been occurring around the barracks. This action goes far beyond the simple act of following orders, it saves lives. And not only your life, but the lives of those around you. Aside from trust any good military unit needs a high level of esprit de corps. A true desire to be there and to perform not only for yourself, but for your fellow soldiers as well. When a unit has a soldier that does not appear to want to be there, it can severally affect its morale and overall performance. Not to mention the time that is lost in training and dealing with the concerns and needs of other soldiers when a leader has to take the time out of their day in order to deal with the problems of just one. It is unfair to all others involved when these circumstances arise and vital time is taken from those who are doing the right thing. Seeing one soldier being treated differently, weather this treatment be positive or negative, sets this soldier apart from the rest. This difference in treatment further undermines that unit's esprit de corps and cohesion. And if this happens that unit's loyalty can begin to be tested not only amongst them, but can also undermine that unit's leader who has to spend so much of his and her time dealing with that unit's only trouble spot. Every soldier has a responsibility to be there for everything that his or her unit goes through, no

The Importance of Punctuality Essay

Reflection On Punctuality

Introduction:

I believe that children often resemble their parents and pick up on their best and worst qualities. That is truly the case for me as I picked up on most of my mom's qualities and a couple from my dad, whether they be good or bad. For example, from my mom, I picked up some good qualities, such as wanting to be clean and organized, always being polite to others and never leaving tasks to the last minute. However, I also picked up some bad ones, such as nagging and overreacting to situations. From my dad, I picked up never being late and being a perfectionist.

Event:

My mom and dad are almost the same people when it comes to organization and getting errands done right and on time. My dad was in the Airforce in India, so that is where he gets his quality of being a perfectionist and never being late. When you are in the army, you must be an individual who knows how to be punctual. Through this experience, my dad has been implementing this idea of punctuality into our lives since we were young and into my mom's life since they were married.

Exploration:

Since my dad has been trying to adjust us to his lifestyle since we were young, it has stuck to us now when we are older too. He did small things like making sure our watches were a couple minutes ahead, so we always arrive earlier to where we need to be. Whenever we went places with our family together, there was rarely a time we would be late. There was a set time to finish getting ready and if we were Get

Punctuality and Time Essay

"Strict punctuality is perhaps the cheapest virtue which can give force to an otherwise utterly insignificant character." (J.F. Boyes) Punctuality is one of the cornerstones of the American Capitalist mindset. From birth, being on time is constantly stressed as a necessary skill that is needed to truly be successful in the world. Lateness is not a tolerated from school, work, and even outings with friends. Even for the most loyal friend and employee chronic failure to arrive on time could lead to the demise of a relationship with the other party. No matter the excuse or reason "Lateness is defined as arriving at a setting after the start of a scheduled event." (Harrison and Price 2003, p.205). Consequently immediately after the event starts or it passes the time someone either agreed or was told to be somewhere they are late. Mastery of this skill is not easily achieved which is self–evident, as a majority of the population knows someone who is never on time, or may even be that individual themselves. Unfortunately people who are constantly late have a bad stigma associated with themselves. Adjectives like rude, inconsiderate, and lazy are constantly being thrown in their direction. Though the blame may be of no fault of their own. What causes this pattern of disregard for the strict standards everyone else listens to that time places? Ranging from early, on time, and late, the classification time sets on an arrival leaves little room for error if one still hopes to still be

Punctuality And The American Capitalist Mentality

Life of a soldier is run by strict set of rules that every soldier is compelled to follow right from the beginning of their army training. Some of the most important maxims of army life include, being punctual, always prepared and of course, being able to manage your time in an effective manner. These maxims are strictly followed in the army and if a soldier fails to meet anyone of these maxims then he or she can be punished according to the American military's Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ). However, these qualities are respected in a man regardless of their profession in life. Being punctual in your job, prepared for your meeting and managing your time can improve your relations with others and pave way for your success. Punctuality in the Army A soldier is always expected to be on time, being late can be problematic not only for him but also for his brothers in arms. The reason army lays such great importance to punctuality is because when the soldier has to enter the real life battlefield then there is no relaxation for laziness. Even a minute late to a specific rally point can be the difference between life and death. Consider a situation where a soldier has to provide supporting fire to cover for his friend, if the soldier does to not strictly obey time then there is a good chance that his friend would be in life threatening trouble. The army has a set of rules in place to ensure that the quality of punctuality is integrated into the personalities of the

Importance Of Punctuality In The Army

Punctuality is a concept that is held to a different standard in every culture in the world. In Switzerland, for example, the train schedule is almost to the second. If a commuter is even thirty seconds late for the train, it will have already departed. On the other hand, in Italy, which is right next door to Switzerland, the train schedules are quite a bit more relaxed. If a train is not posting delayed warnings, it almost comes as a surprise. However, there is one cultural norm that all peoples across the globe can agree upon: respect. Ever since I became an adult, I have struggled to show up on time. I have been habitually late to appointments, special occasions interviews and even jobs, to name a few. To make matters even worse, punctuality is listed on my resume. Being late is obviously highly unfavorable and inconvienient in a world that lives and functions on schedules, clocks and time zones. "A recent survey found 15 to 20 percent of the U.S. population is "consistently late," especially when it comes to work. (ABC)" "Who are America's least punctual workers? The poll suggests millennials tend to show up late more often than older colleagues. 22 percent of them said they arrive late for work at least once a week compared to just 15 percent of people aged 55 and older. A mere 38 percent of millennials said they never arrive late for work compared to 55 percent of older workers. Considering the fact that I am a millennial, my continuous problem with punctuality makes sense. According to the polls, of those who are late, millenials tend to arrive to work later than people who are older. Being punctual is important for numerous reasons, all of which can be applied to both military and civilian life, as well as your work life and social life. I think it is important because it shows that you have respect for others. If someone is consistently late to events it shows others around them that they have little or no respect for others and their time. Time is a valuable thing and it should be viewed as such. If a person has commitments and responsibilities involving others, they should realize that others time is just as important as their own. Someone that is consistently late shows others that they believe their time is more valuable than others. As someone new to our company I should have considered this. My actions have set a negative impression of myself for my fellow soldiers and my NCOs'. Instead of being viewed in a good light it may be possible that I am seen as someone that is irresponsible and undependable. If I am unable to manage my time effectively and be on time, others may have the impression that I am not responsible enough to do my job efficiently and correctly. In turn that impression could affect my career for a long period of time. Along with being respectful and responsible, being on time also means that you are more likely to know what is going on. Most of the time, the beginning of a meeting or a formation for that matter may be used to put out important information. Information in which leaders think is pertinent. If someone is late to a formation or meeting they run the risk of not getting the information put out or getting a misconstrued version from a fellow person. Without proper information that person is more likely to be late again and again starting a cycle that may be hard to break. As someone in the military this is something that should be avoided. A cycle of not being in the right place at the right time could lead to punishment such as UCMJ, extra duty, and in some scenarios a separation from the army. Being on time also sets a good example for others, if someone is late without

Time Management

16 Aug 2017 The importance of time management, punctuality, and accountability.

In 2001, a CareerBuilder survey reported that a total of 15 percent of American workers were late at least once per week. When lateness does occur, its effects are felt and spread throughout the workplace. Though the importance of timemanagement, punctuality, and accountability may seem obvious, the impact in reality has quite a few shrewd layers. Including its effects on the individual just as much as its effects on the workplace as a whole.

Punctuality conveys an excess of positive thoughts to your leaders and co–workers. It shows them that you are ready for the day ahead of you no matter what. It also tells...show more content...

When a leader is late or absent from work, it can send mixed messages to his employees or soldiers, which may lower moral. On the other hand, when a leader is punctual, it shows a hard work ethic that will make the employees aspire to be like that individual. Lateness will lead to stress of getting into trouble, stress will lead to poor performance in your place of work. After you begin to be consistently late to work you will start to rationalize why you're late. When this begins to happen, people tend to start blaming everyone and everything else instead of focusing on possible solutions to the actual problem. Eventually you will see a pattern and you'll be stuck in it, and when that becomes normal to you your job will be in danger. Diana DeLonzer states that ten minutes of being late over the course of an entire year will end up costing you the equivalency of one week's paid vacation.

I once read that George Washington's passion for punctuality was born from his early study of "The Rules of Civility"– his repeated copying of maxims like "Undertake not what you cannot perform but be careful to keep your promise." For George Washington, being on time was a way of showing respect to others, and he expected to be treated with the same level of respect in return. Although we may no longer live in a time of knickers and powdered wigs like George Washington, being punctual is just as if not more than important as it

Punctuality: Monochronic And Polychronic Culture

Punctuality : Monochronic and Polychronic Culture Marissa Gross BT Halim Help University One of the cultures depicted in the video included a country without clocks. This raises the question, how are people ever on time? In most of the western culture, punctuality is a social norm. It is easy to assume that the whole world views the concept of being punctual similarly, despite having a few minor alterations. For example, Malaysia's idea of punctuality, or also known to locals as 'MalaysianTime' is a concept where people are still considered punctual, even if they are slightly late. Now, after extensive research, it turns out that it's not just 'Malaysian Time ', but there actually is a distinct grouping of cultures based on a specific countries idea of punctuality....show more content...

The mono–chronic culture regards time as linear, lateness and interruptions are not tolerated and people do one thing at a time, whereas the poly–chronic culture views time as cyclical, interruptions are acceptable and punctuality does not matter (Daily Telegraph, 1999). Since the polychronic culture is rather different from the western view on punctuality, we shall further discuss it. Business Mexico (2002) described people from polychronic cultures as more productive due to the fact that they are able to multitask and deal with multiple problems at one time. Hence polychronic people have an easier time adapting to jobs which require to be able to do a multiple things a the same time, for instance interpreters who listen to one language and then speak in another (Business Mexico, Get

The Importance Of Punctuality

My mom has always been known as the person who is constantly late to everything because she did everything the last minute. It would irritate me because I had to wait around for her to pick me up from somewhere because she would forget and then would not answer her phone when I called. After experiencing the annoyance and frustration, countless times, I vowed that I would always be punctual. Punctuality is important when it comes to careers, school, and everyday life. If people show up late, there are many repercussions, some worse than others, that happen when a person fails to be punctual. Indian actress and writer Aditi Chropa said "Gandhiji was once punished during his school life because he did not reach the school on time and that one instance in life made him punctual throughout and we have learned enough lessons on punctuality from his daily life" (Chopra). Learning from mistakes and taking action to prevent it from happening again is moving in the right direction.

It can be seen as a difficult task when it comes to being on time if a person procrastinates, but once the proper procedure is followed it becomes hard not to be punctual. The proper tasks in order to be punctual every time include: knowing why punctuality is important, knowing what needs to be done and when it has to be done, knowing how long it will take to drive to the destination, and setting more than one alarm at an appropriate time. These tasks are the key to being successful because if Get
