ENGAGING YOUNG PEOPLE WITH CREATIVE EXPERIENCES
PhotographyWE BELIEVE EVERY YOUNG PERSON HAS A RIGHT TO ACCESS GREAT ART AND CULTURAL EXPERIENCES.
Across the year our Creative Programme for schools, colleges, universities and community groups engages over 15,000 young people of all ages and abilities. More than 350 schools engaged with Curve through shows, workshops and activities.
Over 500 young people take part in weekly workshops at Curve and in the community. We asked young people who took part in these activities what impact this had in their lives, here’s what they said...
HEALTH AND WELLBEING
87% FELT THAT ATTENDING CURVE’S YOUTH PROGRAMME HAD A VERY POSITIVE IMPACT ON THEIR WELLBEING
78% SAID THAT THIS ALSO HAD A VERY POSITIVE IMPACT ON THEIR MENTAL HEALTH
Curve is playing an important role in developing young people’s confidence and experience, alongside helping them to navigate anxiety and build resilience.
Coming to Curve Young Community Company classes support young people in their recovery from the pandemic, developing their physical, emotional and mental health, helping them make friends, have fun and rebuild their lives.
“CYCC act has helped me with my recovery from a brain injury both mentally and physically. It has given me the ability to access my emotions and the confidence to speak out about my experience. I wouldn’t be where I am today without the support and encouragement from the practitioners.”

Through our Neighbour-Hubs programme we work with partners across 5 of the most disadvantaged wards in the city to support young people facing hardship.
The future will likely bring further challenges for young people, and they will need to navigate and lead the way through great environmental change, technological advances and jobs that are yet to be created.
Access to, and participation in the arts is essential for the health and wellbeing, social development and educational opportunity for our children and young people to equip them for a better, brighter future.
“At its core, theatre is all about empathy, about putting yourself in someone else’s shoes, understanding how it is to live the life that they live. The ability to empathise is essential in making rounded people.”

Please share what we’ve learnt, and together we will continue to advocate for all young people’s right to access their local theatre and all that the performing arts has to offer.
