Welcome to DETENTION DAYZ, a devised play that has provided a space for creativity to flow, imagination to grow, and for each young person involved to be immersed in its creation. Taking inspiration from plays such as Willy Russell’s OUR DAY OUT, BBC’s THE 4 0’CLOCK CLUB, Sabrina Ali’s DUGSI DAYZ, the film THE BREAKFAST CLUB, and other current social and cultural trends that explore challenges we may face, alongside the joy, of being a young person.
Each Week, the young people have worked closely with us to develop their ideas, characters and the story we share with you today. This was achieved by working as a collective and in collaboration, by engaging their ideas on what unimaginable actions might lead some students to detention; whilst considering both perspectives of adults within the school environment and the lessons they ultimately take away themselves, from creating and performing the play.
We hope this will make you think and consider, past and present school days, possible mischievous moments you may or may not have had and how, when we work together, great things can be achieved!

It has been a pleasure to work with the young people over the last year, to see the progress made and their ideas blossom. Thank you to Miss Taylor for your support each week and for encouraging my crazy ideas. A big thank you to Sneya, Becca, Octavia, Chandni and Lorrine for your continued support with the group over the year. And finally, to the young people, thank you for coming each week with such energy that has made your show what it is today. Never stop being creative!
Thank you to PPL PRS and Jon and Katey Jorgensen for their continued support.
