Popping Classes (Street Dance) - FREE! Popping is a street dance that originated in California during the 1960s – 70s, and is one of the original dance styles within the funk genre. The technique of popping is described as the contraction and release of muscles to the beat and rhythm of music, however there are many other foundational moves and poses that create the style, including “waving”,” robot” and “tutting”. Even the moonwalk immortalised by Michael Jackson was based on floating and gliding techniques which originated from the popping style! Head instructor Prasadi Jayaratne’s weekly classes aim to teach students the basic foundations of popping, so that they can go on to develop their own style and build the confidence to freestyle/ improvise based on what they have learnt. Prasadi is passionate about expanding the popping and funk-style community in Perth, and is eager to introduce newcomers to local events such as street dance battles, jams/training sessions, showcases and competitions. Rock Climbing 1 Day Adventure This one day rock climbing program is designed for those with little, or no, rock climbing experience and who wish to either start, or extend, their rock climbing abilities in the outdoors. Compared to indoor climbing, outdoor rock climbing requires you to choose your own route, thereby increasing the difficulty and complexity of the activity. As such, outdoor rock climbing gives you a greater sense of personal challenge and achievement. The day begins with a training session on safety equipment, communication and climbing protocol, tying on to a rope, and belaying the climber. You will also be instructed on various moves and techniques to improve your climbing style and to aid you in climbing difficult walls. Climbs are set up throughout the crag to allow you to experience various pitches and difficulties throughout the day. Instructors are on hand to assist and advise while you climb.
