CHRIST THE KING SUNDAY • NOVEMBER 23, 2025 • 11:00AM

THE COMMUNITY GATHERS

Welcome to worship at Centenary! We are a church for everyone. As you prepare for worship, we invite you to greet your neighbor and share the love of Christ. Please silence all mobile communication devices.

INTROIT

Come Into God’s Courts with Praise — Michael Helman

†CALL TO WORSHIP

Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good. God’s steadfast love endures forever.

Give thanks to the Lord and call upon his name.

Make known God’s deeds among the peoples!

God blesses us with gifts of love: with food and clothing, home and family.

God blesses us with daily work: and all we need from day to day.

God calls us into relationship with him: and forms us into one holy people, the Church of Jesus Christ. Therefore, let us offer thanks and praise to the Lord our God. O Lord our God, we give thanks to you forever.

†HYMN OF PROCESSION

#694 Come, Ye Thankful People, Come — ST. GEORGE’S WINDSOR

†AFFIRMATION OF FAITH

Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is one true church, apostolic and universal, whose holy faith let us now declare:

We believe in God the Father, infinite in wisdom, power, and love, whose mercy is over all his works, and whose will is ever directed to his children’s good. We believe in Jesus Christ, Son of God and Son of man, the gift of the Father’s unfailing grace, the ground of our hope, and the promise of our deliverance from sin and death. We believe in the Holy Spirit as the divine presence in our lives, whereby we are kept in perpetual remembrance of the truth of Christ, and find strength and help in time of need. We believe that this faith should manifest itself in the service of love as set forth in the example of our blessed Lord, to the end that the kingdom of God may come upon the earth. Amen.

†GLORIA PATRI

#71 Glory Be to the Father — GREATOREX Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost; as it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. Amen.

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE

THE LORD’S PRAYER

Our father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

(Children, kindergartners through third grade, are invited to exit the Sanctuary for Children’s Worship. Children will return to reserved pews in the Sanctuary at the close of worship.)

CANTICLE

O Clap Your Hands — John Rutter

O clap your hands together all ye people: O sing unto God with the voice of melody. For the Lord is high and to be feared: he is the great King upon all the earth. He shall subdue the people under us: and the nations under our feet. He shall choose out an heritage for us: even the worship of Jacob whom he loved. God is gone up with a merry noise; and the Lord with the sound of the trump. O sing praises, sing praises unto our God: O sing praises, sing praises unto our King. For God is the King of all the earth: sing ye praises with understanding.

WE HEAR THE WORD PROCLAIMED

SCRIPTURE — Colossians 3:15-17

This is the word of God for the people of God. Thanks be to God.

SERMON — “Celebrate Gratitude”

WE RENEW OUR COMMITMENT

OFFERTORY

My Eternal King — Jane Marshall

My God, I love Thee; not because I hope for heaven thereby, nor yet because who love Thee not must die eternally. Thou, O my Jesus, Thou didst me upon the cross embrace; for me didst bear the nail and spear, and manifold disgrace. Why, then why, o blessed Jesus Christ, should I not love Thee well? Not for the hope of winning heaven, or of escaping hell; not with the hope of gaining aught, not seeking a reward; but as Thyself hast loved me, O everloving Lord! E’en so I love Thee, and will love, and in Thy praise will sing; solely because Thou art my God, and my Eternal King.

†DOXOLOGY

#95 Praise God, from Whom All Blessings Flow — OLD 100th Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; praise God, all creatures here below; praise God above, ye heavenly host; praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.

†PRAYER OF COMMITMENT & THANKSGIVING

WE GO AS GOD’S PEOPLE INTO THE WORLD

RECEPTION OF NEW MEMBERS

We give thanks for all that God has already given you and we welcome you in Christian love. As members together with you in the body of Christ and in this congregation of the United Methodist Church, we renew our covenant faithfully to participate in the ministries of the church by our prayers, our presence, our gifts, our service, and our witness, that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ.

†BENEDICTION

†BENEDICTION RESPONSE

2025 ADVENT OFFERING: SHARE THE CHRISTMAS SPIRIT IN A NEW WAY

After thoughtful discussion and prayerful consideration among our ministry team, we have decided not to continue the longstanding tradition of poinsettia honorariums and memorials this Christmas season. Our community is facing urgent challenges related to food insecurity, and we feel called to respond in a meaningful way. Instead of purchasing a poinsettia with recognition in the bulletin, we are inviting our congregation to direct their contributions to our Advent Offering, benefitting Loaves & Fishes. The Lessons & Carols offering and Christmas Eve offerings will also go to Loaves & Fishes. To give, please visit the Centenary website. Click on the Give Tab and select Give Now. Be sure to select “Advent Offering” from the dropdown menu.
