Lindeth Howe Hotel
Our beautiful hotel sits on a gently sloping hillside above Lake Windermere. It is as gorgeous inside as out. Period details that deserve a place in a building with such a great history as ours, blend seamlessly with the stunning new contemporary design of our lounges and bars.
Lindeth Howe was built as a summer holiday home in 1879. The owner rented the house out to friends for holidays amongst them were the Potter family. From 1902 to 1930, Beatrix Potter published her famous children’s stories and two of these stories, Timmy Tiptoes and Pigling Bland, she illustrated them whilst staying at Lindeth Howe. In 1915, after the death of her father, Beatrix Potter bought Lindeth Howe for her mother, Helen Potter to live in, various other owners followed Miss Potter until we came along in 1998 and here we remain.

Where Timeless Charm Meets Contemporary Comfort. Nestling at the foot of Shepherds Crag in the pretty Borrowdale valley at the tip of Derwentwater, the Borrowdale Hotel opened its doors in 1866 – just a year after the railway reached Keswick and Victorian visitors began exploring the Borrowdale Valley. As one of the first Coaching Inns, it gained a reputation for fine hospitality and was patronised by H.R.H. Prince Arthur, The Prince of Wales.
Today, that legacy lives on. Step inside and be greeted by warm log fires, plush armchairs, and the gentle tick of the Grandfather clock. Whether you’re enjoying a leisurely lunch, a refined dinner, or a restorative drink in the lounge, the hotel offers something special for every guest. With individually styled bedrooms and scenic surroundings, it’s the perfect pit stop for Lake District explorers – and a true gateway to relaxation in the heart of the Borrowdale valley.
The Grange Hotel
Elegantly situated at the edge of the Lake District National Park, the recently refurbished Grange Hotel is a distinguished 4-star property, perfect for travel trade organisers seeking premium group accommodation with character. The hotel’s proximity to the Lakes, and scenic coastal routes makes it a perfect touring base. With strong links to rail and road networks, the hotel is especially suited to multidestination itineraries.

Lowther Castle & Gardens
Lowther Castle & Gardens is one of the most intriguing
attractions
the northwest of England.
Castle ruins planted as a garden, a parterre with a contemporary twist, reimagined
Edwardian gardens, a huge rose garden with over 35 varieties. Under Dan Pearson, the international landscape designer, the horticulture at Lowther is of interest to gardeners far and wide.
The castle itself is also a point of genuine fascination. Visitors who follow the Story of Lowther exhibition will learn of the ups and downs that this neo-Gothic building has been through since its completion in 1812. Lowther Castle was at one point one of the grandest country houses in England. How did it come to be a ruin? And why?
A day out at Lowther Castle offers a feast of interest for old and young: fans of heritage, architecture, stories and gardening. There is also a first class café and shop on site.
