Who’s Who in WC HC

Who’s Who:

Wilson County’s Healthcare Industry29

A partial list of healthcare businesses residing and operating in Wilson County is given in Table 2 below. The listing includes healthcare patient service providers, as well as medical equipment and supply retailers and wholesalers. We note the presence of both non-profits and for-profits among WC’s healthcare service providers. Wilson County’s robust healthcare industry development is impacted by three key factors, 1) WC’s proximity to national healthcare player Nashville/ Davidson County, 2) WC’s fast growing population30 and economy (joint indicators of a large attractive, and mostly insured, patient base), and 3) structural changes taking place in the nation’s healthcare industry (e.g, home-based care, telehealth, changes in healthcare public policy, etc). The entry into the WC healthcare market by such industrial heavyweights as VUMC, HCA and Ascension, has also attracted, or created, a bevy of small healthcare enterprises and support groups.

29 While generally not included in this Who’s Who listing because of their relative small employment size, the following health industry categories are well represented in Wilson County and collectively comprise a significant and sizable local industry component - individual physician offices, assisted living products and services, wellness centers, fitness centers, healthcare legal services, mental health treatment centers, nutrition retailers, health insurance providers, childcare services, chiropractic services, alcoholism and substance abuse centers, physical therapy centers, ambulatory services, dentist offices, pharmacies, optometry, hearing aid services, and medical alarm services. 30 In terms of percentage growth, WC was recently rated as Tennessee’s 8th fastest growing county and ranked the 57th fastest growing county in the USA.
