ABOUT
The online MAE Physical Education and Physical Activity Leadership emphasis prepares licensure and non-licensure candidates with advanced knowledge in Physical Education and Physical Activity Leadership. This program is designed to provide opportunities to connect theory and practice via current research and information with a focus on the Center for Disease Control and Prevention Healthy Schools Whole School, Whole Community, Whole Child (WSCC) model
The mission of the Master of Arts in Education emphasis in Physical Education and Physical Activity
Leadership is to promote an environment of excellence in physical education and physical activity leadership accomplished through instructional practices that combine professional knowledge, pedagogy, and leadership
Understand disciplinary content knowledge, the application of content knowledge to teaching physical education, and modes of inquiry that form the basis for physical education and instruction
Understand content knowledge and pedagogical content knowledge to design and conduct appropriate learning experiences that facilitate and enhance the growth of learners
Design, coordinate and champion comprehensive school physical activity programs (CSPAP) that promote school-wide physical activity
Understand and read research as well as analyze research in the field of physical education, physical activity, and nutrition.
The 30-credit hour MAE program combines a core set of courses centered around: Physical Education, Physical Activity, Learning and Development, and Curriculum Design
Students may attend three semesters (Fall, Spring, and Summer) split into two eight-week terms (A term and B term) This gives you six options on which to start the program
Online: Course delivery will consist of 100% online classes

The Master of Arts in Education (MAE) program is designed for individuals seeking an advanced professional degree in education focused on individual interest and professional growth The program is designed for licensed teachers to complete course requirements for additional endorsements but may be appropriate for others interested in a practitioner-focused degree in education Individuals interested in acquiring teacher licensure for the first time should enroll in the Master of Arts in Teaching program.

The 30-credit hour MAE program combines a core course component (4 courses) with elective hours (6 courses) that allow the candidate to choose appropriate coursework to match their professional development interests
Students may attend three semesters (Fall, Spring and Summer) split into two eight-week terms (A term and B term). This gives you six options in which to start the program. Students typically take one or two courses per term, depending on whether they want to graduate in one, two or more years There is flexibility in the program to adjust to individual needs of pacing as work demands and graduate school are balanced to fit the graduate student’s life.
Hybrid: fully online or online with some face-to-face classes

Heather Mullins, Class of 2021To be admitted in good standing to any Cumberland University graduate program, you would need proof of having completed a bachelor's or higher degree from any regionally accredited institution with a minimum GPA of 2 5
Students with less than a 2 5 GPA may complete two courses under provisional acceptance If the student earns a grade of B or higher in the two courses, they will earn final acceptance
Candidates must have a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university Candidates seeking additional endorsements must hold an active Tennessee teacher license
