A spotlight to support and elevate a selection of black-owned businesses in the UK For this second edition of our mini-series, we met Michelle from Sincerely Nude on Zoom to find out more about her brand.

Sincerely Nude was founded in London by Michelle Asare in 2018.

“I noticed that I could never find any nude clothing close to my skin tone whenever I went shopping or even browsing online. This realisation became somewhat frustrating as I noticed it everywhere I went. I’ve always loved fashion and it felt dear to my heart to be part of the change I wanted to see in the world. From a discussion to fruition Sincerely Nude wants to empower women to feel beautiful and sexy in their skin tone no matter what shade or size".

Week Two: Sincerely Nude

What is Sincerely Nude. and how did it start?

Sincerely Nude is a women’s ‘nude’ clothing and accessories brand and we launched in June 2018.

What would you say your company message/ethos is?

The ethos of the brand is to promote nude in different shades of skin tone as it was/ is hugely underrepresented. It has been just very ‘beige in the past years in the fashion industry. As a brand we wanted women to feel like their shade is beautiful and also recognised as ‘nude’ no matter how deep the tone is.

What is the best piece of advice you received when starting your business?

The best advice I received was to ensure my marketing was amazing and have a good marketing budget.

What has your biggest achievement been since launching your brand?

The business has been blessed throughout the years with so many great opportunities. From being featured in magazines and having a fashion show, but I would say a great moment for the brand was last year when we were one of the winners to receive a free advertising billboard. That was pretty epic! It was such an amazing accomplishment for the brand.

If you were describing your business as one of your products, what would it be?

I would probably describe our cozy three-piece set. This is simply because we are a warm and friendly brand and we want to ensure that every customer feels represented when they come onto our store.

What advice would you give to any inspiring entrepreneurs?

My advice would be to learn as much about marketing as possible before launching and definitely creating a social media presence, especially on TikTok before starting. People love to see the journey of entrepreneurship.

Also I would advise taking every hit or miss as a learning opportunity. Don’t give up or be too hard on yourself, you will be great!
