NOV 2008
CHAIRMAN'S REPORT
I
am writing this as the leaves are falling from the trees, the clocks have just changed and we are expecting some cold weather. Winter is not far away. Culter Community Council (CCC) has been kept busy over the last 3 months especially regarding the AWPR. the Final Draft Core Paths Plan Consultation and Planning which are explained in further detail later in the Courier. Other key interesting points are as follows: Civic Forum Meeting Members of Culter Community Council attended a presentation by Aberdeen City Councillors Kate Dean and Kevin Stewart along with Directors of Aberdeen City Council (ACC). The objective of the meeting was for ACC to explain the Budget Cuts and allow the Community groups to ask the panel questions. The presentation was informative but the question and answer session was all too quick with attendees not being able to voice all their concerns and get their questions answered.
Another presentation is scheduled for 15th November when ACC will be explaining further cuts. At least this time we will be able to have a voice! Kelocation of Peterculter Police Station to Cults Academy We have been advised that it is planned to move the police station from Peterculter to the new Cults Acadcmy in October 2009. Our local councillors have met with the police and been briefed on responses to phone calls, allocation of resources, community policing etc.
We still will have a Peterculter community
However, Culter Community Council has stressed the importance of the physical presence of the station, and having the physical presence of policemen walking around the village, as deterrents, and we are extremely apprehensive at losing this. We have also pointed out that the move takes the police presence away from the main road where it can do most good. We have spoken to the police and requested a public meeting in Peterculter to discuss the issues. We will keep you informed on this matter. Culter Primary School School's Attainment: the 2007 statistics have been published, and Culter School has performed very well, above the average for Aberdeen City in reading, writing and maths. This is a fantastic achievement. We were delighted to hear that Cults Academy is also performing excellently.
Culter School: the broken windows at Culter School will not be repaired until hrther notice. (See Cllr Boulton's report) This is due to the ACC budget cuts. We
also have been advised through the City Councillors that the school toilets are in a poor condition and are currently being reviewed. CCC expressed extreme concern regarding the situation and will be donating funds from t h r Small Improvements Grant to have the windows repaired as quickly as possible. We have asked Councillor Boulton for further information on the subject of the toilets. First Aberdeen Ltd -No 24 Bus Service Further to our March meeting with Mr George Mair. Managing Director of First Bus, finally I have received a response to my letters regarding an improved No 23 Bus Service. First Aberdeen Ltd have stated that looking at the performance of Service 24, when you deduct journeys that could have been made on Service 19, the numbcr of passengers using it is very low. They add that this has also deteriorated over the last few years against a background of increasing ridership across the First Bus network. They further say that Service 24 very much falls into the category of being a socially necessary service, which they support on a commercial basis. Given this scenario,
