Work to begin at CHS in January $27m project includes classrooms, gym, performing arts center BY GLENN REA THE CUERO RECORD The next major step for Cuero ISD construction is about to begin. At last week’s trustee meeting, the board agreed to a $27 million project at Cuero High School. Part of a $76 million bond issue, the work scheduled at CHS will include 15 new classrooms, performing arts center, competition gym, band/choir hall, and boys and girls sports
field house/locker rooms. In 2013 when voters approved the bond issue, the district planned improvements for each campus. Both Cuero Intermediate School and Gobbler Stadium have been refurbished. Work has begun on a new 8th grade wing at CJHS and land has been purchased for construction of a new Hunt Elementary campus. Work is expected to begin at Cuero High School shortly after
the first of the year. According to the discussion at Thursday’s meeting, the improvements at CHS will cost just over $27.4 million. When completed the high school will have 15 additional classrooms along with the 800 seat performing arts center. Also planned are renovations that will provide a new art room, expanded ag classroom and shop, and conversion of the former special ed cooperative building to administrative of-
fices. Architect for these projects will be Claycomb Associates, Architects out of Austin and the contractor will be Weaver-Jacobs Constructors from Cuero. Along with approving the cost of the high school improvements, the trustees also explained the funding. Board vice president B.J. Drehr said $23.6 million will come from the 2013 bond issue, See WORK, 3A

Located across from Cuero High School, the Guadalupe Valley Electric Cooperative service center is actually a relocation from about two blocks
away but the appliance showroom is new. Also celebrating an opening last week was the GVEC Southern Operations Center located just north of Cuero on Hwy. 183. It will serve as a centralized operations, warehousing and transportation facility for GVEC here. Both the service center and operations center were re-located because See GVEC, 3A
