Our ranks have been blessed with some of the best Christian writers in America; now that is my opinion and of course, I deeply value my opinion. I value it when no one else does, or will. I know what living by principle is and I know what character and integrity are. I have lived it for my whole life. We don’t hesitate to tell you that for nearly 5 years we have been a magazine of Christian character and integrity and we only purport to have writers within our community who believe in such character and godliness. We thank God for each and every writer within our midst; and we know personally that they strive to produce for you good articles and good reflections of the Christian nature and valuable character within our nation. God has blessed us with having readers around the world; and today we are glad to report to you that our magazine is being read throughout the Middle East, Pakistan, Europe and Asia, France, Great Britain, Germany, Iraq, China, India, all the provinces of Canada, and all 50 states in the United States of America. The Prostitution of the Soul By sex, drugs, witchcraft and siren music

Christian Times Magazine gave me the opportunity to write last about Fentanyl and the Moral Compass. This was a story of my personal moral challenge as a hospital pharmacist. This time I would like to widen the scope of the current problem from Fentanyl and addiction to where the problem began. We have as a nation (and world) prostituted our souls via sex, drugs, witchcraft and siren music. We focused our time not on God but everything removed from God. The consequence of this prostitution has been disastrous; grave sexual sin, addiction and idolatry. Prostitution can be defined as the literal trade of sex for money but it has another definition: devoted to corrupt purposes. Prostitution by this definition is a synonym for idolatry. Devotion of ourselves to anything other than our God is prostitution. In Leviticus 20:6, God speaks to Moses and tells him if someone turns to mediums or familiar spirits (also known as witchcraft)“to prostitute himself with them,” God said ‘‘ I will even set my face against that soul, and will cut them off from among his people.” Satan was/is the controller of witchcraft - dark magic. Was it not like the evil one to merely present a different term to encompass the same meaning? Oh, how easily deceived we are by the master of deceit! Satan does not mind who you serve as long as is not God. Our foolish desires cause our Sovereign God to turn from us. Simply because we desire the prostitution of the soul with sin more than we desire God and Godliness. CHRISTIAN TIMES MAGAZINE ISSUE 60 | PAGE 10


I enjoy the story of Adam and Eve. I believe the initial opening book to the masterful work of God’s salvation continues to be prophetic until present day. Do keep in mind the fruit of knowledge. Perhaps not ironically, idolatry is immediately mentioned in the Bible in Genesis 3:5. Satan the serpent, tells Eve eating of the fruit will make her eyes open. She will be like God and will know good and evil. For a second take away the picturesque garden and slithering serpent and look at your phone (cell phone). Do you have an iPhone? Flip it over and behold a fruit. My logo is shiny and pleasant. Regardless of the model, a cell phone (if recent) is like a personal computer at the fingertips teaching the wisdom of good and evil. But do you search for God in this pursuit of knowledge? This is prostitution of the soul by knowledge of everything but the knowledge of God. Perhaps a reference to modern literature awakens more; like the plot of The Screwtape Letters. C.S. Lewis presents the world with two demons writing to each other on the plight to convert The Patient to Satan. Think of this as a modern day text exchange between an old uncle and nephew! Screwtape, the elder demon, in one such letter/text states,”... the safest road to hell is the gradual one – the gentle slope, soft underfoot, without

sudden turnings, without milestones, without signposts." Gently our attention shifts from God and the Bible to our phone’s knowledge gleaned…. Phones in conjunction with the internet also provide the greatest gateways to sex. Knowing the duality of the meaning of prostitution; I must address the actual act it describes- sex. Using sex as means of personal gratification, lacking in God’s guidelines, is an act of soul prostitution. Using sex as a means of working to support a live-i-hood is also against God. God provides us with many talents but the desecration of the body; the temple of God, is not one. Perhaps, one of the best Biblical examples is Sodom and Gomorrah, where the inhabitants will greedily demand intercourse with male angels sent by God. The men of Sodom and Gomorrah surrounded Lot’s house demanding to know the angels “carnally.” This may be found in Genesis 19. I will not be addressing the homosexuality aspect of Sodom and Gomorrah as this would require another article. Since I first read this chapter, I thought of the desire to sexually pollute angels - quite poignant. The angels rescued Lot and cursed the intended rapists with blindness.

I liken this perversion example in Sodom and Gomorrah to the modern day teaching of children about sex and gender. Why prostitute an innocent angel-like mind with such perversion? We should not be surprised as sex is a very lucrative business. It started with Porn in magazines and home films. Now, with our phone we can please our perversions with a few keystrokes. The perversion does not stop; it continues to reach younger and younger children. Research the stories regarding Satanic clubs’ desires to spend time with our children after school. In 1962 and 1963 school sponsored Bible and prayer was ruled unconstitutional. We as a nation removed the ten commandments from our schools around 1980 with Stone v. Graham. Choosing Satan and sexual topics over teaching our children about God; shows our moral failure as a world especially as a “Christian Nation”. Even more damning is sending missionaries across the world to train the children abroad while we allow our children to follow famous celebrities like pop stars gyrating and rappers chanting about profane body parts. The consequence of sex is sometimes unwanted pregnancy. Our world is willingly killing innocent life by abortion. Statistics state upwards

of 61.8 million babies have been killed so far in America alone. 61.8 million is nearly equivalent to the population of Italy. Abortion has been likened to worshipping Molech and the Bible described this in 2 Chronicles 33:4-6 and in Psalms 106:36-37. In 2 Chronicles 33:4-6 it mentions soothsaying and passing sons through the Valley of Hinnom, a known area with a temple for child sacrifice to Molech. In Psalms 106:36-37 David writes;” They served their idols, Which became a snare to them. They even sacrificed their sons and their daughters to demons,...” This desire to please Molech exists to this day. Some celebrities even chose to tattoo Molech on their bodies; the same ones our children follow! God will most assuredly destroy us like He did Sodom and Gomorrah and as He did with Nineveh. God is angry that our attention is not on HIM. God is angry at what we have done to our children. A common saying “history repeats itself,” begs a different meaning. This brief mention of sex does not even encompass all the other grave consequences associated with the act. Just as a constant focus on sexual desire pollutes our soul and our mind to God so does relying on witchcraft, sorcery, pharmacy and siren music. CHRISTIAN TIMES MAGAZINE ISSUE 60 | PAGE 12


In the last article, I wrote on Nineveh. Nineveh would have today been a city in Northern Iraq. Nineveh eventually fell to Babylon's (Southern Iraq) fulfilling God’s prediction. Nineveh was spared initially because they woke up to God and repented. Sadly, the repentance of sin wore off in a mere 100 years. God again prophesied the destruction through Nahum and this time God actually destroyed Nineveh. The destruction of Nineveh was so complete no evidence appeared for a little over 2,000 years. Another interesting thing to note was the archeological digs of Nineveh seemed to be in sync with the World’s Great Awakenings. Perhaps we were not looking for Nineveh but looking for more knowledge to quench our soul’s wonders. Fast forward to the present times the destruction of Nineveh is still desired by the Islamic State of Iraq or ISIL’s. ISIL’s or ISIS's lustful desire is to destroy any remnant of Nineveh citing the reason of idolatry. Knowing now that prostitution is a synonym for idolatry and the grave consequence of not focusing on God; it makes one wonder about our pending doom lurking. Looking at the first chapter of Nahum it specifically states God is jealous and the Lord avenges. In fact it states again

immediately after the Lord avenges and the Lord is furious. Opening a book with such anger and requiring Nahum to repeat the anger again is impactful. The anger of the Lord stems from Nineveh’s sins as seen in Nahum Chapter 3; crimes, predators, arrogance, lies, robbery, and idolatry. The main idol of Nineveh seems foolish. Nineveh worshiped a false god Dagon, a fish god, similar to Neptune. Some wonder if this idol worship is the main reason God chose a fish to swallow Jonah. Nineveh after the repentance wore off returned to false gods. Nineveh returned to their wicked ways. Nineveh was cruel for the sake of cruelty and full of arrogance. Perhaps what became more concerning was the sins mentioned specifically in regards to America’s plight (and the World’s) with addiction and sorcery in Nahum 3:4. Picture in your mind a witch. Do you see an ugly woman with moles littered on her wrinkled skin and a crooked beak nose? Picture a modern day witch. What do you see ? Something similar to movie depictions like Hocus Pocus or Harry Potter? Let us review the Bible’s mention of sorcery; it does not depict such things. In fact it depicts families and perhaps even pharmacy. CHRISTIAN TIMES MAGAZINE ISSUE 60 | PAGE 13


Nahum 3:4 NKJ reads Because of the multitude of harlotries of the seductive harlot, The mistress of sorceries, Who sells nations through her harlotries, And families through her sorceries. Harlot in Bible can represent two meanings; wanting nothing and of course a prostitute. Perhaps to some this has conflicting meanings but both lack the need for God regardless of the connotation. “The mistress of sorceries” is a very distinct word array and very interesting. It couples an affair and witchcraft. It couples families and sorcery. Sorcery in the Bible might represent two distinct meanings; witchcraft or pharmacy. God does not make mistakes as a pharmacist this concerns me greatly. I believe in God and I believe in His path for my life even if my profession is flawed. Sorcery stemming from the Greek word pharmakeia appears in the Bible in Revelation 18:23 and Galatians 5:20, per the reference of www.gotquestions.org/pharmakeia-inthe-Bible.html. This term pharmakeia is translated into English as “sorcery,” “witchcraft,” or “sorcerer.” Something else peculiar sorcery (pharmacy) is usually coupled with idolatry when mentioned in the Bible. Galatians 5:1921 New American Standard said:

“Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are: immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions, envying, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these, of which I forewarn you, just as I have forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.” Interesting the wording in this passage sensuality, idolatry and sorcery (pharmacy). Prostitution of women, children and porn coupled with worship of celebrities or sports teams in conjunction with teaching the world a pill or injection will solve our problems might be an modern interpretation of this passage. I am a pharmacist who struggles with anxiety mostly induced by the hospital who chose profit and harm over patient safety. As a pharmacist with my doctorate in drugs I am also concerned that medical doctors continuously prescribe a pill to solve our problems yet never address the root cause. Medical Doctors do not commonly investigate if sin, anxiety, depression, addiction, abuse or idolatry might be the contributing factors to our problems. As a pharmacist who tried medication to treat the induced anxiety I CHRISTIAN TIMES MAGAZINE ISSUE 60 | PAGE 14


found no relief until I started praying more when these restless feelings overcame me. It worked! It caused me to question the pharmaceutical field more. Like the drugs we chose to legalize Fentanyl, alcohol, nicotine, Adderall or Ritalin. All highly addicting all with grave consequences yet peyote is still illegal and many others. When is the last time you heard of someone prostituting themselves for a peyote fix? Perhaps we as a nation (and world) chose medications that only alleviated or masked the symptoms but never addressed the cause - lack of God. We have focused our time on the newest trends, best shows (tv and etc.) to watch and sports teams winning. By doing so we are failing to mention our God in the public realm. Prostitution and idolatry again are one in the same meaningdevoted to corrupt causes. Drugs and music tend to go together proving to be a perfect concoction. Are strip clubs void of music or drugs? We as a nation and world are lulled into this prostitution by alluring music. Music does wonders for the soul if the focus is on God. We can see such examples in the book of Psalms. Psalms 95:1 reads;

Come, let us sing for joy to the LORD; let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation. David tells us to sing for joy to the LORD, HE is our ROCK and our salvation. God is the ultimate healer too. God orchestrates healing through music. But if our music does not focus on God it is siren music meant to bewitch us. Siren music is mentioned in literature in the Greek epic poem, The Odyssey. Beautiful nymphs in this poem sang songs to entice the sailors to come near so they might eat them. The Odyssey’s sirens are even depicted in the movie, “Oh brother where for art thou?” In fact siren music has always had the capacity to heal momentarily, soothe momentarily and conform perhaps for eternity. In the Bible, 1 Samuel 16:23 King Saul was soothed by David’s harp playing but only for a time because Saul was not God’s but being used by God. There is a distinct difference with Saul as there is with music unto God and siren music. We started with a blues musician who sang about meeting a devil at a crossroads. In modern times we are fooled even more; a 1970s artist once sang; “Tune in, wouldn't it be something…. Rumors spreading into panic….I've seen movements in the CHRISTIAN TIMES MAGAZINE ISSUE 60 | PAGE 15


clearing… Someone sent you something satanic” oddly the video showed UFOs a topic for yet another time. So boldly we have addressed Satan and so meekly we whispered God. In the 1980s we had many musical groups that bluntly named their bands after satanic things. Some bands even marketed themselves after Godly things to cause further blasphemy. They drummed to heavy mental and curse words. . Even today we have pop stars singing their love for Judas, the one who betrayed Jesus. Very few sing today of the wonders of God or their love for Jesus. I challenge you readers for a week to refrain from secular music and listen only to Christian singers or rappers. Do, please let me know how God fills you with joy in that endeavor. There is a cure for this state our world is in -joy and God. Joy is brought to you by God. Joy is found in music and in the tasks we do unto God. We can overcome this prostitution of the soul if we shift our focus from evil to God. David was called the apple of God’s eye regardless of his many sins, like adultery and murder, because of his joy in God and because of his faith. David sang in the streets unto God. God is sovereign and He can heal the entire world. We must pray and

return our focus to Him. I will conclude this series with God the Cardiologist. Pastor John MacArthur had a wonderful sermon titled this and I would like to delve into our hearts and see how we might heal this addiction and Prostitution of the Soul. God is the ultimate healer; we as healthcare workers are just here momentarily mending the slight tears in the worldly fabric. I would like to dedicate this article to my adopted Nana, Joye Mitchell. You lived your life with joy, class and a strictness in dedication to God’s will. You devoted your life to teach the children of the Christian school the word of the God and you did so with joy. You asked me to write and implored me to do so in college. You were the main reason I went to Oxford in England. The last thing I texted Nana was I was writing for Christian Times Magazine. I am sure you know that your life’s example along with my family’s had this impact on my life. You taught me joy and to follow the Word of God [on earth]. Now in heaven with our Lord Jesus Christ , you have infinite joy, peace and comfort.

Why We Need The Holy Spirit Today By Pastor Robert Summers

No one chapter alone is a book when reading the Bible. You need to read the whole volume, especially the Gospels. When reading the Gospels of Mathew, Mark, Luke and John, remember that the Book of Acts is an essential continuum of the Jesus story. When Jesus went away to His Father, and our Father, He sent the Holy Spirit to work through His church. The Book of Acts thus would have no formal ending, for the Lord’s work through us today has not ended. The first mentioning of the Spirit of God is way back in the first couple of verses of Genesis. From that time to now, the Holy Spirit never left. Jesus breathed on His struggling disciples (John 20:22) and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit.”

Here’s why we all need to receive the Holy Spirit: Jesus called Him our Helper. (John 15:26) This word Helper is a translation of the Greek word parakletos, a word which has several rich meanings. It is a compound of para, alongside, and kletos, called. Hence “called alongside.” Here in John 15 parakletos is rendered “Helper.” We all need a Helper. We cannot do our life’s work nor God’s work alone. We need help. Most every high ranking and important Greek leader depended on a parakletos, a helper. Today we Christians who struggle against an enemy, a demonic adversary, need a Helper every moment of every day. Another meaning to parakletos is comforter. Moffet and other translators use this thought; “When the Comforter has come” (John 15:26). We all need comforting. We all have moments when the candle of our spirit is a barely, smoldering wick. Only one more attack will snuff out our flame. We will likely give up. But wait! Jesus sends the Holy Spirit. He breathes the breath of God on that smoldering flax and suddenly the flame reappears. How many times we have needed the comfort of the Spirit!

The parakletos is also our intercessor who stands in the gap for us. He works to cover us. He makes appeals on our behalf. We all need someone to take our side, our part in the struggle. A similar meaning for parakletos is advocate. This is a legal term that implies someone who has power of attorney to speak on our behalf, to defend our cause, to handle our case. How often we have been hauled into court but are saved by a powerful advocate. Perhaps the most common use of the word parakletos is counselor. We need someone wiser and more discerning than we are to give us advice. If ever the church needed divine guidance it is today. Committees can never be savvy enough to figure out what should we do! What comes next? We must have the divine counsel of the Spirit provide answers for today. The church that God wants, the Christian witness that Jesus is looking for, is one who is led by the Spirit. If we will receive Him, the Spirit Himself will help, comfort, intercede, advocate, and counsel us on to a victorious life. So shouldn’t we pray daily to be filled with the Spirit? We need the Counselor desperately at this crucial time. Every congregation should be intentional in welcoming the Holy Spirit’s presence, power, and ministry.


A Conservative Conversation with Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler Candidate for US Senate As the November elections approach, we must all be intentional in taking an active role in choosing suitable candidates for office. Not just any Republican is good enough. We must be sure that the candidate we choose genuinely is aligned with and will have the backs of the people. Not just say they are, but they have a proven track record and have taken the time to invest in those who support them. A candidate who will not forget you once they are elected. One such candidate sat down for over an hour with me; this was an in-depth interview, with no sound bites or quips but honest answers for all Americans’. US Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler answered detailed questions on the issues before this country. She is running for the US Senate for an open seat in a crowded primary field here in Missouri, and tough decisions need to be made. I have completed my choice, and I pray that you will agree with me after reading this interview. Hear her heart for our country, the people, and this State.

CHRIS: For the benefit of those who do not know you. Who is Vicky Hartzler? VICKY: She’s a wife and a mother, lifelong farmer, small business owner, and former public-school teacher. Still, I’m a Christian, a public servant who is blessed to serve the people of Missouri’s 4th district. Now I’m in my sixth term. I’m a senior member of the Armed Services Committee. The only person in the Missouri Congressional delegation, both in the House and the Senate, sits on Agriculture Committee. Ag is our number one industry in Missouri. I’m the Chairman of the House Values Action Team, with over 100 members of Congress who protected, defended, and fought for faith, family, freedom, religious freedom, and life. I’m on the tip of the spear helping lead those efforts in Washington, and so it’s a beautiful blessing. Hopefully, I will have the opportunity to serve all the citizens of Missouri as their Senator. CHRIS: Talk to our readers about how your faith guides you. How your faith leads your thought process as you serve and will serve if you win the election as our new Senator? VICKY: Faith is integral to my life. I accepted Jesus when I was nine years old, and he’s been my best friend ever since, and he’s the Lord of my life. I have tried to do things his way. I’m very thankful for Ephesians 2:10, which says we are God’s workmanship created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which he’s prepared in advance for us to do. It’s exciting to be a Christian and that as we delight ourselves in him, he gives us the desires of our hearts. Jesus placed it on my heart to be involved in public service. I became a teacher, but I always thought about maybe someday running for office. When I was nine years old, making mud pies on my front sidewalk and talking to God, what did he want me to be when I grew up? I forgot about it, but as I look back on my life, I was always drawn to public policy. When I was teaching for 11 years and was grading papers, the phone rang one night. It was a man asking me to run for state representative. At first, I said no, that I’ve worked with teenagers, and it was a big step to leaving my career as a teacher. However, he said, “would you think about it, pray about it”? My husband and I did a lot of praying and then talked with others, and we just got the advice that this is what we should do. This is a way that perhaps God could use me to make a difference for him and others. I ran, won, and now I’m blessed to be in Congress. CHRISTIAN TIMES MAGAZINE ISSUE 60 | PAGE 21


Every day I start the day reading my Bible and praying and asking God for wisdom. I’m very grateful for the Bible studies on Capitol Hill, and I am involved in one on Wednesday with other members of Congress. We discuss what the Bible has to say about the issues we’re facing. We pray together, and we seek guidance. It’s integral, but I think it’s crucial in this time that we have a Senator who has this as an essential piece of their life. I believe we’re in a battle for the heart and soul of this nation, and we were established as a Christian nation. Yet, all those values are under attack. To meet that challenge, we must have someone who has the character and the belief system in our Judeo-Christian heritage. Someone who dares to stand up and make a stand to fight for those things. That’s what I’ve been doing and want to do as Missouri’s next Senator. CHRIS: Looking back at your decision to run for Congress, what led you to that decision? VICKY: I chose not to run for re-election for state representative in 2001 because we were blessed with our daughter, and I always wanted to be a stay-at-home Mom. So, I decided not to run for re-election and went back home. But then I became very involved in helping other suitable candidates. I was asked to be the spokesperson for the Coalition to Protect Marriage in Missouri, which was formed to help promote the passage of a constitutional amendment in Missouri in 2004 to establish that marriage is between a man and a woman. That passed with 71%. CHRIS: That’s a lot of bipartisan support in this State for a state constitutional amendment to affirm that marriage is between a man and a woman. VICKY: That’s right, and we ended up helping and working with people all over the State to promote that. I also wrote a book called Running God’s Way, step by step during that time. CHRIS: I have an autographed copy. VICKY: I know. So, there were many things I did during that interim period. Still, then 2008 happened when President Obama was elected. Speaker of the House, and Harry Reid took over the Senate. They just very quickly started dismantling everything that made this country great. Many of us became very distraught. To see the potential demise of our great nation. I had this realization that in Missouri’s 4th district, we were part of the problem because our representative was casting our vote for Nancy Pelosi, helping her become speaker, and then for her agenda. I just said to my husband that somebody needs to run against him. He was an icon in our district. He had not ever really been challenged. I told him somebody needed to run against him, and my husband turned to me and said, “well, why don’t you do it?” And I said, well, we can’t do that. We have a 9-year-old little girl. CHRIS: Has your husband regretted suggesting that you do that. Now that you have spent all this time away from him and your farm? VICKY: He’s a man of God and tries to seek his will for himself and us. You know the Lord brings people together, and marriage is to help each other. You accomplish what he wants you to. And I’m very blessed and thankful for him, for his support. Otherwise, I wouldn’t do this without his encouragement and sacrifice. The family members of elected officials are the unsung heroes that really don’t get any of the glory, but they make all sacrifices. He’s an extraordinary man. He did encourage me to run and that we should be praying about it. Within days, we started having people come up to me saying, “Vicky, you’ve got to run to get against Ike Skelton. You’re the only one who could beat him,”. It still took a little while before we had to find out. What does that entail, and what would that be like. We really felt that God was tapping me on the should and saying, “I need you off the bench. There was time for you to go home for a while. Focus on being a full-time Mom and doing these other volunteer things. But now I need you back in the game, and it’s time.” So, we took a leap of faith and signed up to run. Then we realized that we had a nine-way primary. We won the primary by almost 10%, and then we took on the 34-year incumbent Chairman of the Armed Services Committee. We had $100,000 left after the primary. He had 1.6 million in the bank, and many people said you can’t do it, but the people in the 4th district did it, and I just helped be a part of that movement. We stood up together and said no more. Nancy Pelosi needs to go. Our values matter, and we’re going to fight for our country. We won with five percentage points, and now I’m in my sixth term. CHRIS: What led you to decide to run for the Senate? Here in Missouri, the battle is the primary. Whoever wins the primary will win the general election. This will not be easy; you are the only female in the race, big money all around; why you and why now? VICKY: I’m running for the Senate because America is in crisis. I’m the only person in this race who really has this experience of courageous conservative leadership needed at this hour to help turn this thing around. Who indeed is ready because they care about the people, the State? Also, who has the background that reflects the people of this State and is better equipped to start turning this thing around. Being in the Senate isn’t a learn as you go on the job. Experience, especially in this crisis that we are facing. If we don’t step up now and stop this socialist liberal train wreck. We are not going to recognize our country in five or ten years. Our kids and our grandkids aren’t going to live in the same great country that we have or experience the opportunities and live with the values that we’ve had. And so now is the time. I think every person cares about this country to do everything we can to save this country. It may be locally getting people registered, voting, helping, putting out yard signs, and praying for our nation. But for me, we need a senator to step up here in Missouri with this void with Senator Blunt’s retirement. Who can help get our country back on track in the Senate? That’s why I’m stepping up to do my part to try to help turn this thing around. CHRIS: OK, let’s dive right in and talk about China. COVID, with the impact that it has had on the world. The trade deficit is their leverage, our relationship with how we deal with China. They have a powerful economic lever over this country because of the Biden and Obama policies. Where are your thoughts concerning China and those items? VICKY: China is a severe adversary. They have a plan for world domination. I produced a four-part video series on my official website, hartzler.house.gov, to make Americans aware of the threats. The first video is about the military threat. The second is the economic threat. The third talks about foreign influence. What they’re doing on our college campuses, and the fourth covers the human rights abuses. I’m already trying to increase awareness. We also must understand that they only understand CHRISTIAN TIMES MAGAZINE ISSUE 60 | PAGE 24


strength. I believe in peace through strength, as both Xi Jinping and Putin are concerned, and that’s why I’ve been fighting to rebuild our military. I want to continue to do that so that we can deter potential wars to deter China from being aggressive in taking Taiwan. To prevent Putin from invading Ukraine, that’s sadly too late due to the weakness of the Biden Presidency, his failed policies, and his handling of Russia. China, I’ve been very focused on. I’ve passed legislation to ensure our military has what they need in the Indo-Pacific Theater. More specifically, legislation to force the removal of all the video surveillance equipment in our federal government agencies and departments when it comes from China. We didn’t realize for how many years they were even there. My office got a call from the Wall Street Journal. A few years ago, they asked what my feelings were about these video surveillance cameras at Fort Leonard Wood from China? We’re like, what cameras at Fort Leonard Wood? They did some investigating. There were only five that they could find, and they pulled them out. It was a wake-up call for me as a member of the Armed Services Committee. We started realizing that many of those cameras are in all of our government buildings in these units. So, I passed legislation to pull those, and that’s being done as we speak. But I’ve introduced several pieces of legislation currently that I want to keep building on as your Senator. One piece of legislation I recently introduced is the Chinese Communist Party Act. It bars and prevents members of the Communist Chinese Party (CCP), Congress, and leadership from coming here and getting an education in America and their family members. For instance, Chairman Xi Jinping’s daughter received her undergraduate degree at Harvard, and she’s still here somewhere getting her graduate degree. So, why would we enable our adversaries to come here, receive our world-class education, and expose ourselves? Potentially to espionage? I think that’s just the start. There are 317,000 Chinese students here on their campuses. I presented a bill concerning the Persecution of Christians in China and religious minorities, and it passed with bipartisan support. Exposing all the persecution they’re doing, not just the Christians but the Muslims currently in China. There’s more persecution of Christians than at any time since Mao. We have churches being demolished and crosses being taken down. However, we also hear stories of pictures CHRISTIAN TIMES MAGAZINE ISSUE 60 | PAGE 25


of Jesus being replaced by Xi Jinping inside the churches. Up to half a mile surrounding Christian churches, signs on every corner say, “No one under 18 is allowed beyond this point”. It’s against the law for anybody under 18 to go to a Christian Church. Yet, they send the Chinese children to the Communist Party camps and indoctrinate them for their whole life. The Chinese government is afraid to expose that there is a God in Jesus that loves them. Hope and freedom through his salvation. They don’t want children to hear that message. They want them to grow up dependent on this Communist Party. Still, they’re also putting video surveillance equipment outside all the churches. They watch and monitor who comes. There’s a Catholic priest in prison because he refused to allow a video surveillance camera. If you put a camera on the front of the pulpit and so very, very draconian persecution, plus the record number of the imprisonment of pastors, Christians, and the systematic torture. So, I want to speak up for those who can’t speak up for themselves and raise awareness. I was grateful to have some Democrats come on board and recognize this threat and vote for this bill. I’ve also introduced the SOS Act that stops the aggressive sterilization act to call for sanctions on those involved. CHRIS: What about our trade with China? Prospects? Threats? VICKY: We do need trade with them, certainly on the agriculture side; it’s been positive for us to have the Trump trade deal. China had been increasing more purchases of soybeans and of our pork. They’re about $19 billion short of their obligations to the Us. So our trade representatives, I think, need to be very firm that China needs to fulfill those obligations. CHRIS: A lot of that pork and soybeans come from this State (Missouri). VICKY: Absolutely so. But it’s kind of a delicate balance with China. We need the trade, and it’s beneficial to have that export market. They have a lot of people they need to feed. This is good for our agriculture, but we also must be careful and not become dependent on China. That’s why I called for legislation, before the pandemic, to bring back our pharmaceutical production to America. CHRISTIAN TIMES MAGAZINE ISSUE 60 | PAGE 26


John Garamendi, a Democrat from California, and I learned that most of the medicines, even aspirin, is given to our service members come from China. Or the active pharmaceutical ingredients come from China, India, or other countries. If we went to war with China, we realized the threat they could win without firing a shot by sending some tainted medicine or vaccines. So, we were already calling for bringing that back and calling on the President to use the Defense Production Act to stand up for American pharmaceuticals. Then COVID hit, and we all learned more about that vulnerability. I’m a huge advocate of bringing back our pharmaceuticals production. CHRIS: I want to divert just a little bit. Stay on the international relations. But you know, it hit me as you talked about the persecution. Christians in China, and we saw this in Russia in the past as well with this new onslaught of runaway progressivism. I think we are at a point now where we will see a much less subtle version of persecution of Christians right here. I don’t know what your thoughts are on that. It just hit me as you were talking. The whole cancel culture, the doxing, and all this stuff that’s going on. People like us are automatic targets for that. You spoke of being a schoolteacher. We’ll get into that in a minute with all the CRT stuff. You see those who’ve spoken up; they get attacked. People call their jobs to try and get them fired for their political beliefs or affiliations. This is a potential indicator of bad things if we don’t stem that tide. VICKY: We are starting to see the chilling impact of censorship here, and political correctness and wokeness threaten our religious liberties. We’re having some woke social media platforms determine what information deserves to get out or not get out. And if you go beyond those parameters, they shut you down, and it’s feeling more like we’re living in China or Russia than the America I grew up in if this continues. Plus, the radical agenda on sexuality. This also impacts religious liberties, and we’re starting to see court cases against those people who believe marriage means only between a man and a woman. Nancy Pelosi keeps pushing what’s called the Equality Act. I call it the in-Equality Act. They’re trying to also implement this by using executive orders and department policies to redefine the definition of gender (sex) and civil rights laws to include sexual orientation and gender identity and making it a protected class. If you don’t provide equality, this has enormous ramifications for women and just for families and people of religion. as bad an actor if you’re a doctor who objects because of religious or medical reasons that do not support a 14-year-old girl going through gender, gender change, and mastectomy. You say I don’t think that’s good for her as a teenager. Over 80 to 90% of young people who have gender confusion end up settling in the gender of their birth. You could be charged with discrimination and forced to participate in these surgeries. If this becomes standardized, businesses can be forced to include in their health care policies for their workers to pay for gender transition surgeries and be forced to have sexless bathrooms. Parental rights are in real jeopardy. There has already been a case where parents had their daughter taken away and given to the grandparent. In Ohio, they have some of these state laws and had a teenage girl that wanted to transition to a boy. The parents didn’t support it. Giving the hormone blockers and starting that process. Someone else on the outside took the parents to court. The judge said they were discriminating, taking away the parental rights and giving them to the grandparents. This also impacts adoption agencies. There are huge ramifications, but what I have specifically been focusing on is; girls’ sports. I used to be a track coach, and I was involved in sports myself. I ran track, basketball, and volleyball. Title IX years ago, was passed. So that with the quality of opportunity, they could compete, experience what it’s like to win, and achieve the personal attributes of self-discipline. You learn all those things in sports and have the opportunity to win medals and excel to get scholarships and recognition. It is all in jeopardy now. Where they are through this wokeness and redefining gender or allowing males who identify as females to compete on the same sports teams. Girls are being denied those opportunities because of this craziness. People are not really speaking the truth. I don’t think it’s loving to tell someone they affirm this. It’s not helpful for them. It’s not beneficial for others. So, I’m hopeful that we can get that turned back. It’s going to jeopardize our religious freedoms. What speech can you say at work? Will you be able to share your beliefs without being charged with discrimination? It’s deeply concerning. It is. The entire Title 9 transgender issue is that it’s hurting female sports.

CHRIS: You know, it’s ironic to me and comment on how you feel about it, and you may disagree with me, and that’s fine. Ironically, the Liberals, once upon a time, and many parents fought for girls to have all their own sports. They fought so hard to get some sort of parity. One of the groups that helped accomplish that is the group that’s destroying it. In eliminating these opportunities, I see constant comments from parents who are like, well, you know, my daughter just dropped out. If there’s going to be this biological boy that’s against a biological girl. What’s the point? Because they can’t compete, and it’s just the irony of it all. When I see your comments on it, on Twitter and Facebook. I know many people who don’t see the world like we do, agreeing with you. What’s your response, not just from your position as the congresswoman for the 4th district, but from a campaign perspective? How is that playing out for you? VICKY: I’m getting a very positive response from all over. When I see people first. They don’t like my political background, but I’ve seen a lot of women who’ve come up to me and say, I’m so glad you’re running. Thank you. I don’t know if it’s because of my speaking up for women and women’s sports or if some of the other people are running in this race and some concerns there. I’m really encouraged by that, and it’s been encouraging in Washington DC. As this issue has come to the forefront of seeing several feminist groups come alongside some of us conservative women who are fighting for this, we’re finding commonality. We may be on different sides of the abortion issue, but we can agree on this area. I think that’s encouraging. People just recognize the unfairness; people say that’s just not fair. Some common sense and have policies women sports should be for women in sports should be for men, right? CHRIS: I agree. So, let’s talk about kind of that commonality theme, right? There’s no arguing that Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler is a Republican, Christian Conservative. However, governing still must happen. Governing means talking to people who don’t necessarily agree with you on everything and working together on things that matter to everyone. Talk about your opponents in this Senate race regarding their willingness to govern. Clearly, you are the grown-up in the room. Someone has to be one to reach across the aisle. How do you feel you stack up against your primary opponents? VICKY: I will let them talk about their philosophy on that. things done. Remember, I work for the people in this State, and they want something done. As we discussed, I co-sponsored the bill to bring back pharmaceutical production from China to America with a Democrat because we’re both on Armed Services Committee. We recognized the threat. We’ve worked on other things in life, low income and housing tax credits. On the Armed Services Committee and the Agriculture Committee, we work together. There’s a lot of commonalities there trying to get more broadband and high-speed internet both in urban and rural areas, which I’ve helped pass. We passed three amendments to the last farm and food bill to allow more funding to go to high-speed internet. There are a lot of areas that we can agree on. We should come together and get things done where we can agree without compromising our principles. CHRIS: This ends part one of this extensive interview with Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler. WASHINGTON—In a leaked Supreme Court draft opinion written by Justice Samuel Alito indicates the court may be prepared to overturn Roe v. Wade, the 1973 precedent that established a constitutional right to an abortion. The 67-page opinion, marked as a first draft, declared that Roe was “egregiously wrong and deeply damaging,” and that Planned Parenthood v. Casey, a 1992 decision that limited but did not eliminate abortion rights, prolonged the court’s error. A U.S. Supreme Court CHRISTIAN TIMES MAGAZINE ISSUE 60 | PAGE 32


rare breach, a betrayal of the Supreme court tenets honored precedence when a draft opinion is disclosed before a decision. Roe v Wade 410 U.S. 113 (1973) was a landmark decision of the U.S. Supreme Court in which the Court ruled that the Constitution of the United States protects a pregnant woman's liberty to choose to have an abortion without excessive government restriction. “We hold that Roe and Casey must be overruled,” Justice Alito writes in an initial majority draft circulated inside the court. The draft opinion is a fullthroated, unflinching repudiation of the 1973 decision which guaranteed federal constitutional protections of abortion rights, and a subsequent 1992 decision — Planned Parenthood v. Casey — that maintained the right. “Roe was egregiously wrong from the start,” (“Alito majority draft: “We hold that Roe and Casey must be overruled”) “It is time to heed the Constitution and return the issue of abortion to the people’s elected representatives "Its reasoning was exceptionally weak, and the decision has had damaging consequences." (“Kamala Harris Says Overturning Roe ‘Opens the Door’ To Restricting ...”) And far from bringing

about a national settlement of the abortion issue, Roe and Casey have enflamed debate and deepened division.” Justice Samuel Alito in an initial draft majority opinion. The court’s holding is not final. This is a summary - the case is still pending. The unprecedented revelation is certain to intensify this debate. Protesters turned out in droves before the Supreme Court “Shouts, sighs, curses, and tones were now rising to a crescendo. Then a hush: ... The whispers and whining rising to a fever pitch.” (“The Big Speech—by Godiah Rocky Imbukuleh”) A leaked decision to overturn Roe v. Wade signals a win for the sanctity of life and a potential blow to the sanctity of the US Supreme Court. Without a final decision from SCOTUS, even California lawmakers have jumped into the fray and have sought to turn the Golden State into a refuge for abortion rights, as there are states that have passed laws that heavily restrict when a person can get an abortion. “We’ll be a sanctuary,” Gov. Gavin Newsom “We are looking at ways to support that inevitability and looking at ways to expand our protection.” One such bill, Assembly Bill 2223, authored by CHRISTIAN TIMES MAGAZINE ISSUE 60 | PAGE 33

citizens of each State from regulating or prohibiting abortion,” the draft opinion said.

The California Family Council and other anti-abortion groups contend that a bill AB 2223 would decriminalize infanticide — there by the killing of newborn infants. This bill would no longer require stillbirths to be investigated by coroners. Anti-abortion activists fear this would legalize “infanticide.”

The apparent leak represents an unheardof breach of the court’s private, behindthe-scenes deliberations on a blockbuster case the court has not yet publicly issued. It also could threaten longstanding bonds of trust in a court that has already been under ideological and personal strains.

DO we have to do this so that we may protect these precious lives? If abortion is to remain legal, an aborted child at birth is infanticide plain and simple, ondemand and without restriction. Once a child can survive outside of the mother the child should be up for adoption if the woman chooses to not care for the child, this is a practical and an option for parental care. Why not? When abortion becomes an afterthought, about or simply a way to avoid responsibility, it ceases to be about choice and instead becomes a travesty. Perfunctory abortion moves on to abort on demand, late-term abortion which turns into infanticide. “Abortion presents a profound moral question. The Constitution does not prohibit the

Thirteen states have so-called trigger laws, which had passed in the years since the Roe decision in 1973 and explicitly note they would outlaw abortion within their borders if the Supreme Court allowed it. Mississippi’s 15-week abortion ban would prohibit the procedure far earlier than current Supreme Court precedent allows. Additional states already have been adopting similar bans in anticipation of the court’s decision. LISTEN a heartbeat is heard at 22 days (about 3 weeks); and yet, we have thousands of abortions that can be attributed to late term! Democrats and RINOS are taking a barbaric position as we evolve into a nation that condones – abortion on demand. Millions of babies have been aborted in the United States since Roe v. Wade’s decision in 1973. Priorities are clearly askew. A newborn baby, as it takes its first breath is murdered at birth– this is a woman’s right and a politician’s justification for a vote. But this is not abortion; this is infanticide, a crime against humanity! They say that this is a woman’s, right? To self-harm? To not honor nature and be in the darkness, void of light. It is no secret that America is a divided country.

The issue of abortion is one that consistently drives a wedge between people of different political ideologies. While both sides can agree that the topic is a difficult and sensitive one, they often differ on where they believe the line should be drawn. For conservatives, the idea of a woman having the right to end the life of her child - at any stage of development - is unthinkable. We believe that once a baby has been conceived, it has a right to life, no matter the circumstances surrounding its conception. This view was reaffirmed by most Republican lawmakers in states who have passed laws banning abortion after six weeks - before women even know they are pregnant. These laws have met with widespread criticism from those who believe they represent an attack on women's “reproductive rights.” However, for those who hold this view, protecting the lives of innocent babies is worth any amount of criticism. For the Left, they see abortion as their HOLY SACRAMENT. Maybe because it is an offering to the soulless Demons they fight; they have made contracts with? Americans are tired of politics as usual, full of professional politicians who talk the talk and sold their souls – their integrity, their honesty, their honor – long ago for power and the end of morality for sin. On retrospection, was this Supreme Court leak a distraction from something else going on? The 2000 Mules opening. Or is the Supreme Court doing something else, like overturning the election? And this is their “Cover?” Did they leak it themselves, the original Roe OPINION in 1973 they gave, was leaked too, there have indeed been leaks at the court before, albeit of a different scale. One of them was about the case at the heart of today's conversation: In 1973, the original Roe decision was leaked to the press before the court had formally announced it. (“Was the Original Roe v. Wade Decision Leaked? - Truth or Fiction?”) This could be because they want to see what the citizens think and watch what they COULD do, as in gathering information. Or the leak could be a distraction from something no one can see. When weighing all the theories and wargaming, you must consider everything. Usually, the easiest answer is the right one. Jefferson once wrote, “Indeed I tremble when I reflect that God is just; that his justice cannot sleep forever.” He was referring specifically to another moral atrocity in our history – that of slavery – but I think his words apply equally to abortion today. I love my country, and I want it to be blessed by God. And that is why I do Thomas tremble, when I reflect that a just God watches us – is watching us murder babies. I do not ever want my Country to know the wrath of God!

I am completely astounded at how extreme leftist ideologies have gotten so deeply ingrained into so many different institutions in America. Politics, of course, lead the way, followed by the educational environment, corporate structures, the entertainment industry, healthcare facilities, and even down into such small areas as community HOAs and local sports associations. It seems as if a small minority of people have wedged their way into positions of leadership and policy making in the media, in school boards, and, of course, again, politics, and have agendas counter to the beliefs and desires of most average Americans. The “average” Americans I write of are so busy in their daily lives of work, raising a family, keeping up with inflation, etc., that they hardly have time to devote to fighting against the rising tide of socialism, CRT, LGBTQTIA+, “inclusion” and diversity, corruption at high levels, liberal judges, illegal immigration, and a whole basketful of other damaging rules and regulations handed down by wrong thinking think tanks. It is akin to the story of the crew

that was sent to drain the swamp but couldn’t accomplish the task because they were so occupied with fighting the alligators off their butts that they didn’t have any spare time to work! See also the obstacles placed in front of our previous President who was handicapped from Day One of his term by false accusations of complicity with a foreign government that was knowingly perpetrated by the America-hating crowd of communistic leaners. Even today after all the lies have been exposed these same people refuse to accept the true facts. And I do realize that the term “true fact” should be an overstatement but in today’s world a “fact” is no longer true unless a privileged few says it is true! In other words, it is only “true” if it agrees with their narrative. Thank goodness for the brave news outlets that dare print and expound the truth! Let me shine a spotlight on one arena that is particularly galling to me personally and that is coopting of parents’ jobs by evil intended school administrators and officials. promoting “Genderism” or other types of nonsense designed to cause confusion and doubt in young children's’ minds about their sexuality. Many school districts across the country have either in-school or after-school activities or “clubs” that have only one objective: to foster in a young child’s mind that he or she might be the opposite sex of what God intended for them to be. And all of this is absent the approval or even the knowledge of almost all parents! The “best” age to perpetrate this indoctrination is around ten to thirteen years old and mostly happens in middleschool age children. How appalling is the idea that these self-appointed overseers of what is “best” for children deem to do so under the very noses of the parents but without their knowledge and approval! I recently read of one case of a twelve year old female who asked her Mother for permission to attend an after school “art club” class only to be led to believe at this “club” that they may very well be living a life as a female when they may “identify” as a male! And the instructor of the class made a point to ask all the children to not tell their parents what the actual intent of the “club” really was. Fortunately this particular young lady confided in her Mom that she was disturbed and

confused after the “art” class and that she was not at all comfortable about the content of the class. The mother was, of course, livid that this had happened without parental permission, and began the process of seeking explanations about the “art club”. What she and her husband found was that the school district at first adopted a “stonewalling” attitude towards them and their questions and when this tactic did not deter them the school then began to make threats against them. The threats involved reporting the parents to the local Department of Child Services as potential child abusers. Ironic, isn’t it, that the abusers themselves want to report the parents as abusers. But this tactic has begun to be used more and more against any individual or group who doesn’t meekly go along with the far left looney tunes domestic terrorists who have gained a modicum of control in this country. And as more and more leftist liberals obtain positions of authority in the educational institutions, in the courts, in the corporate world, the media, and, especially, the government, we (I write here of common sense people wanting to do the right thing for their children), have to begin to fight fire with fire. Seek help from any viable source such as conservative groups who have banded together as organizations CHRISTIAN TIMES MAGAZINE ISSUE 60 | PAGE 38


that have the resources to combat the statue quo. These organizations have the financial wherewithal and experience to properly and legally battle the entrenched liberality that exists in our school systems. If you are in a location that doesn’t have this type of organization locally, then try and find a national group with the same goals as yours. Several or even many of these foundations exist solely to listen to your story and, if possible, will add you to their litigation lists as plaintiffs. If you cannot connect with any of these groups, then form your own organized group of freedom fighters. Gather like-minded individuals together, because you can be certain that if it has happened to you or your child that it has happened to others as well. Listen to each others’ stories and create a well thought out rebuttal to what you see as propaganda from the left promoting any of the aforementioned areas that denigrate your parental rights and responsibilities. Many times the mere outing of their “secret” or clandestine agendas will cause the disappearance or wilting of these antiGod ideas because the light of the truth will blot out the darkness of evil. Sometimes, though, evil roars back at you so you need to be prepared for the backlash. Oftentimes only a legal ruling will quell the advancement of this evil

simply because it is deeply rooted with powerful or, even worse, blinded people. ‘Ole Satan has a tricky way of shading truths to the point that even heretofore good people can be fooled into going along with profound error. Swimming against the tide is always difficult but we are fighting for the moral and spiritual lives of all the children of America. Indeed, ALL of our lives are at stake here. As the number and overall percentage of Christians in America continues to diminish those of us who remain as Christians must step up our game. We must organize, we must not falter, we must not allow one single child to be subjected to the evilness of the LGBTIQUA+ gang and their GSA, gender identity, transgender, “identity closets”, or other “secret” on campus gatherings that promote false ideas of sexuality to our youngsters. Parents, parents-to-be, grandparents, and all concerned citizens who do not want this filthy, perverse, Satan-inspired garbage poured into the minds of our school age children must rally together to demand cameras in classrooms and clubs at school and other locations where adults meet with children. The future of our nation is at risk. The other side wins when we simply do nothing. Get involved. Get active . Elect decent, Godfearing people to school boards and then inspect, inspect, inspect! People do what you INSPECT, not what you EXPECT. Do not let even one tiny episode of wrong-doing go unchallenged, for by doing so you will embolden the next wrongdoer. And, lastly (which really needs to be firstly!) PRAY and ask the Lord to forgive us for not acting and praying sooner and to shut down all evil doers in the lives of our children. PARASHA BEHAR (On the Mount) Leviticus 25:1–26:2; Jeremiah 32:6–27; Romans 6:1–23 "The Lord said to Moses at Mount Sinai, 'Speak to the Israelites and say to them: "When you enter the land I am going to give you, the land itself must observe a Sabbath to the Lord.” (Leviticus 25:1–2) Last week, in Parasha Emor, God called the Kohen (priests) to live lives that expressed a greater measure of holiness. It also described the essential festivals that God calls His feasts, which included the Sabbath. This week, in Parasha Behar God gives Moses the law of the Shemitah (literally, release but commonly translated Sabbatical Year). This law is related to the pattern or rhythm of seven in Scripture. Here are a few instances: God created the universe in seven days; There are seven days in the week; God rested on the seventh day; The Temple menorah was sevenbranched; The Israelites made seven circuits around Jericho before the walls fell down; and, There are seven moadim or appointed times: Passover, Unleavened Bread, Firstfruits, Pentecost, Day of Blowing Trumpets/New Year, Day of Atonement, and Tabernacles.

Seven is the number that celebrates the sacred purpose of infusing holiness into the whole of Creation. (Jewish Wisdom in the Numbers) And while most people are aware of the seven-day cycle of the Shabbat, and the holiness it infuses to the week, there are few who realize that God instituted a yearly cycle of seven for the Holy Land. Just as we are to work for six days but rest on the seventh, the land is to be sown and harvested for six years. In the seventh year, the land is to have its Shabbat year of rest — its Shemitah. "But in the seventh year the land is to have a year of Sabbath rest, a Sabbath to the Lord. Do not sow your fields or prune your vineyards. Do not reap what grows of itself or harvest the grapes of your untended vines. The land is to have a year of rest." (Leviticus 25:4–5) A resident of Holon, Israel, has posted a sign stating the fruits on the trees in his backyard are hefker (abandoned property) during the Shemitah year. In Israel, even the children keep this commandment in their gan (kindergarten). In the year of Shemitah, it is not unusual to see a sign posted next to their weedy, unkempt garden that reads, "In honor of the year of Shemitah, CHRISTIAN TIMES MAGAZINE ISSUE 60 | PAGE 44


our Gan is not tending our gardens." This is a beautiful sight, reminding us of the uniqueness of living in the Holy Land. Of course, this law involved more than allowing the land to rest. During the Shemitah, the Israelites were to make some agricultural and economic adjustments in order to rest and take the time to learn about the Lord. It was not only a time of physical rest, saving both the land and the people from exhaustion, it was a time of spiritual refreshment: "At the end of every seven years, in the year for canceling debts, during the Festival of Tabernacles (Sukkot), when all Israel comes to appear before the Lord your God at the place He will choose, you shall read this law before them in their hearing. "Assemble the people — men, women and children, and the foreigners residing in your towns — so they can listen and learn to fear the Lord your God and follow carefully all the words of this law. Their children, who do not know this law, must hear it and learn to fear the Lord your God as long as you live in the land you are crossing the Jordan to possess." (Deuteronomy 31:10–13) There was also an element of benevolence or social justice in this holiday since debts were to be forgiven, and the poor could pick the

produce that grew without the land being worked. The Year of Jubilee: The Redemption of the Land "Count off seven Sabbath years — seven times seven years — so that the seven Sabbath years amount to a period of forty-nine years. Consecrate the fiftieth year and proclaim liberty throughout the land to all its inhabitants." (Leviticus 25:8, 10) The seven-year Shemitah cycle accumulated in sets of seven (49 years) and culminated in the Yovel (The Year of Jubilee). Every 50th year, both the land and the people rested. This is a very special appointed time of freedom and liberty that is sanctified, set apart, or holy (kadosh) to the Lord. It was proclaimed throughout the land with the blowing of the shofar on the Day of Atonement. With the blast of the shofar, Hebrew slaves were freed and debts were forgiven. And while the land was left uncultivated, as in the Shemitah year, in the Yovel year, hereditary property was returned to its original family, even if it had been sold because of misfortune, CHRISTIAN TIMES MAGAZINE ISSUE 60 | PAGE 45


poverty, or to pay off a debt. In fact, at any given time, the proximity of the Jubilee determined the value of a person's land. If it were just a few years away, the land would sell for less since it would soon be returned to its rightful owner. In other words, though land could be sold, it could only be sold for a limited period of time. Although this type of land ownership may seem foreign and impractical, the intent of this law is to convey the truth that the Lord is the real owner of Israel's real estate; therefore, it cannot be permanently sold. "The land must not be sold permanently, because the land is Mine and you reside in My land as foreigners and strangers. Throughout the land that you hold as a possession, you must provide for the redemption of the land." (Leviticus 25:23–24) We might liken this concept of land ownership to a lease, with the Jewish People being God's tenants. This law was for everyone, rich and poor alike. It was designed to protect the rights of each person and prevented land and wealth from being accumulated in the hands of a rich few, while the majority remained poor. What's more, this law really brings home the fact that no one — no leader or politician or

individual — has the right to sell, divide or give away God's land for any reason. Not even for the purpose of a supposed peace deal with those determined to destroy the Jews in Israel. God will execute His judgment on all those who attempt to divide up His land. (Joel 3:2) The Hope of Jeremiah: The Hope of Israel "Houses, fields and vineyards will again be bought in this land." (Jeremiah 32:15) Haftarah Behar (the corresponding Prophetic portion) echoes the theme found in the Torah portion of the purchase and redemption of land. This portion opens with a rather bizarre situation. King Zedekiah has imprisoned Jeremiah in Jerusalem because he had prophesied the destruction of Jerusalem and the exile of the Jewish People. Jerusalem is under siege by the Babylonians who will soon overtake the Land. Nevertheless, the Lord tells Jeremiah that his uncle will ask him to purchase his field, and God instructs Jeremiah to accept the offer. "Buy my field in Anatot, since you have the right of redemption to purchase it." (Jeremiah 32:7) CHRISTIAN TIMES MAGAZINE ISSUE 60 | PAGE 46


But this is no ordinary purchase. It is a prophetic act. Despite Jeremiah's accurate predictions of Jerusalem's destruction, he retains the ability to see hope in the face of desolation. Even though he knows that the city is about to be destroyed and the rest of the land conquered, in obedience to the Lord, Jeremiah redeems the land. In doing so, he affirms his faith in the Eternal who promised the redemption of Israel — that houses and fields would once again be bought in the land. (Jeremiah 32:15) Although it is unlikely that Jeremiah will ever live on that land during his lifetime, this prophetic act displays his refusal to give in to hopelessness. He trusts in God's mercy. One day, God will bring His people back home to the Land and to Himself. "Ah, Sovereign Lord, you have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and outstretched arm. Nothing is too hard for you." (Jeremiah 32:17) The exiled people of Israel did rebuild Jerusalem and again inhabited Israel, as God promised. However, after AD 70 they were scattered by the Romans, though a remnant has always remained in the Land. Yet, God promised that a second time, He would return His people

to His land — not from Babylon but from the four corners of the earth to never be dispersed again: "I will bring My people Israel back from exile. They will rebuild the ruined cities and live in them. They will plant vineyards and drink their wine; they will make gardens and eat their fruit. I will plant Israel in their own land, never again to be uprooted from the land I have given them." (Amos 9:14–15) Our generation is witnessing the fulfillment of the hope of many prophets — the miraculous restoration of the nation of Israel and the regathering of its people from the four corners of the earth. We have yet to see the fulfillment of the promise that the Jewish People will turn back to God and be reunited in the Land under the sovereign rule of the Messiah, sitting on the eternal throne of His father, David. Just like in the Year of Jubilee, when debts were forgiven and the Hebrew slaves set free, the day is soon coming when all of Israel will recognize that Yeshua (Jesus) is the Messiah who forgives us and releases (shemitah) us from slavery to sin. "We know that our old self was put to death on the execution-stake with Him, so that the entire body of our sinful propensities might be destroyed, and we CHRISTIAN TIMES MAGAZINE ISSUE 60 | PAGE 47


might no longer be enslaved to sin … so now offer your various parts as slaves to righteousness, which leads to being made holy, set apart for God."
