THIS WEEK Fire Prevention Week Fire prevention week is Oct. 7 — 13. Protect your family from fire with these tips: Safe use and proper installation of household appliances that burn fossil fuels, (i.e. fuel fired furnace, gas water heater, gas stoves, fireplace) is the best protection you can provide your family. Carbon monoxide detectors can add a level of protection, but are not a substitute for safe use of equipment. Have all heating equipment inspected and serviced each year. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for installation; install at least one carbon monoxide detector near sleeping areas (within 15 feet) and one on every level of your home. Carbon monoxide detectors should be replaced after seven years of service or as recommended by the manufacturer. For more information, contact fire prevention at 567-3370.

SCHRIEVER AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. — Schriever Airmen honored the sacrifices of POW/MIA service members during POW/ MIA Remembrance Week Sept. 17 — 21. POW/MIA recognition has been a part in U.S. military history since the first officially documented cases during World War II. In
1979, Congress passed a resolution establishing POW/MIA recognition day the third Friday of every September. Sept. 21 was the 39th anniversary of the event. “It is our duty to pay the utmost respect to our fellow service members and their families,” said Master Sgt. Damion Parris, operations superintendent with the 50th Civil Engineer Squadron and event lead. “Many
are still continuing to pay the ultimate price, and have endured things most of us can’t even imagine.” The week began with a ceremonial reveille and opening ceremony in which the POW/ MIA flag was raised alongside the U.S. flag in front of a formation. See Remembrance page 7

SCHRIEVER AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. — The 50th Force Support Squadron held a Customer Appreciation Day to encourage camaraderie and morale between Schriever Airmen, Sept. 24. The day consisted of Robin Hood Archery Tag and corn hole tournament, a stunt show
performed by the Superhero Stunt Team, a longest drive competition, and featured the band “Voodoo Hawks.” Staff Sgt. Zachary Miller, combat arms noncommissioned officer in charge with the 50th Security Forces Squadron, thought the day was a success. “A lot of time and work went into it to ensure everyone could have a good time,” he
said. “I feel that it is important to have some fun days to kick back and relax, and let some of the work stressors out.” Staff Sgt. Clifton Cole, trainer with the 50th SFS, thought the event benefitted Airmen and brought them closer together through events not normally hosted at Schriever AFB. See Appreciation page 8
