City Council OKs liquor license for distillery on Ruxton By Marcus Hill Manitou Springs City Council hosted a brief regular meeting on Tuesday, June 28, at the high school while focusing on a liquor license for South Park Distilling. This week’s meeting was moved due to voting taking place at City Hall. Council voted 6-0 to not object to allowing a liquor license for South Park Distilling. The license would be for a permanent sales room at 16 Ruxton Ave. In addition, the license would allow “on-premise consumption (tastings) and off-premise consumptions,” according to the memorandum sent to City Council. Councilor Judith Chandler said she had “trouble wrapping her mind” around the tasting room for South Park Distilling. “I’ve been to (wine) tastings and it’s been maybe an ounce or two of wine,” Chandler said. “In the packet, this is up to 12 ounces and they’re limited to two 24-ounces of alcoholic beverages. “To me, that’s not a tasting, that’s consuming alcohol. That very well could contribute to traffic noise and other neighborhood concerns. … What constitutes tasting?” City Clerk Judy Morgan explained that

State and county officials release preliminary vote counts As of 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 29, the most recent unofficial updates from the El Paso County Clerk and Recorder’s Office were posted just before midnight on Tuesday, June 28. Michael Bennet, the Democratic incumbent for U.S. senator, is expected to face Republican Joe O’Dea in the Nov. 8 General Election. Bennet ran unopposed in the primary, as did many Democratic candidates. Incumbent Doug Lamborn defeated his fellow Republicans for the District 5 U.S.

representative seat and is likely to face Democrat David Torres this fall. Democratic incumbent Marc Snyder probably will run against Republican Shana Black to represent House District 18 in Denver. Gov. Jared Polis, who also was unopposed, is likely to face Republican Heidi Ganahl in November. Secretary of State Jena Griswold’s Republican opponent is expected to be Pam Anderson. Both candidates for state attorney general,

Republican John Kellner and incumbent Phil Weiser, ran unopposed. According to the Secretary of State’s website, Coloradans cast 1,073,075 votes in the June 28 election. That’s 28.29 percent of the state’s 3,793,414 active voters. In El Paso County, 130,388 ballots were cast; that is 28.46 percent of the 458,073 active voters.
