Welcome to Chilton Preschool Music Centre !

PICCOLOS [BIRTH - 18 MONTHS]

FORTISSIMOS [3 - 5 YEARS]

The Piccolo class is designed for children from birth to 18 months and offers an introduction to the world of benefits that music has to offer you and your child. It has been proven that musical training has a large impact on the development of the brain, especially language, speech, attention, memory and the ability to express emotions verbally.

The Fortissimo group of fabulous three and four year olds is the culmination of the Chilton Music School’s Preschool programme. The focus of the Fortissimo group is one of fun, creativity and excitement with lots of energetic movement and dance activities alongside regular instrumental playing.

In the Fortissimo group we begin to develop the value of music as a learning tool in preparation for starting school. The Fortissimos build strong aural memory and mathematical skills as they learn to listen to, process and imitate longer patterns and sequences on percussion instruments.

Regular class performance activities build confidence in our musicians as they get ready to take on the world.

MINI MINIMS [18 MO’S - 3 YEARS] In our Mini Minims class, we begin to develop confidence and creativity in our youngest musicians. It has been proven that musical training has a large impact on the development of the brain, especially language, speech, attention, memory and the ability to express emotions verbally. The children will participate in a variety of dance and movement games designed to build an awareness of pulse and different rhythmic patterns and values.

Chilton Preschool Music Centre offers classes for preschool children that I’ve been unable to find anywhere else in Wellington...I have already recommended the music centre to other parents.

It has all really helped to build his confidence, schoolreadiness, and of course interest in music. There really isn’t any other preschool programme like it, so I’m thrilled we found it!

Emma [also] is very patient and loving towards the kids and their mumma's. She keeps the class very vibrant.

She explains things in a simple manner and the tasks we do are very achievable for the new musicians.

Jo holds Performance Certificates in Voice (Trinity) and Oboe (Royal Schools) and has taught music to children for nearly 20 years, bringing musical fun to hundreds of pre-schoolers as well as teaching singing to a range of students around the Wellington region, both in groups and individually. As a choral singer, Jo was a foundation member of the New Zealand Secondary Students Choir and has been a member of the New Zealand Youth Choir and Voices New Zealand chamber choir. Jo is delighted to be leading our Preschool Music Centre, fostering a love of music from the very beginning.
