PERICLES

BASED ON “PERICLES, PRINCE OF TYRE” BY WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE

DIRECTOR: PHILIP PARR

“A man lying in the sand. Washed up by the waves. There’s no knowing where he came from, where he is heading, what he wants or what he is fleeing from. Somewhere, in a distant land, he used to be king. The Prince of Tyre. But now he is only a man who has nothing but a story. This

“Pericles” is a contemporary reinterpretation of Shakespeare's play, set in an uncertain land of memories and dreams. The show follows his journey, a wandering hero in a chaotic and sometimes fantastic world marked by suffering, loss and miracles. Facing storms and dangers, Pericles is involuntarily subjected to trials undergoing transformation, fragmentation and perhaps self-definition. His story, that of a prince, though personal, resonates universally, and explores themes of identity, destiny and regeneration, in a setting that is ever-changing double-edged from the extraordinary to the ordinary.

"Pericles" brings to the audience a captivating and emotional story about finding and rebuilding oneself in unknown lands. The drama signed by Dálnoky Réka, the set and costume design created by Brian D. Hanlon, the choreography by Anca Stoica and music composed by Cári Tibor contributes to a complex theatrical experience that reaffirms the contemporary potential of Shakespeare's texts when they get in good hands.

A performance recommended for audiences aged 12 and up. Performed in Hungarian with English surtitles.
