The Annual AIA/CSI oyster roast: a tradition for 26 years

The AIA/CSI Annual Oyster Roast has become a tradition in the AEC community of the Low Country. Jointly organized by the AIA Charleston—Section of the American Institute of Architects, and the Charleston Chapter of the Construction Specifications Institute, the event has brought together architecture, engineering, and construction professionals for an evening of socializing, networking, music, and, of course, oysters.

Last fall, the AIA Charleston Board convened to draft AIA Charleston’s first multi-year strategic plan for 2017-2020. This process identified four strategic focus areas for the coming years: Member Services, Advocacy, Public Outreach, and Board Operations. The AIA Charleston Board is committed to providing high quality programming in the form of membership meetings, lectures, and building tours. They will continue to promote a culture of mentorship and collaboration among members in order to support personal and professional development across all firms and career stages. The Board works to identify opportunities to collaborate on events and programs in an effort to continually improve the opportunities available to our members.

The Construction Specifications Institute was founded in March 1948 and is a national association of more than 9,500 volunteers, including specifiers, architects, engineers, contractors, facility managers, product representatives, manufacturers, owners and others who are experts in building construction and the materials used therein.

The mission of CSI is to advance building information management and education of project teams to improve facility performance.

 The Chapter, incorporated in 2003, is governed by an elected Board, bound by the Chapter Bylaws and operated in accordance with the Chapter Guide.

With Jeep White on guitar, Tommy Kinney on harmonica, Bob Call on bass and Joe Cook on percussion, they are a seasoned group of musicians that play individual solo gigs frequently and unify to play as a band on a regular basis.

Recently the band has been focusing more on the Blues with the masterful blues harp of Tomcat Kinney and the crying electric guitar of Jeep White. They play numerous regional venues and have appeared on local TV shows.

Jeep White is a BMI Songwriter with several published CDs of original music with his songs available on Spotify, Pandora Radio, Itunes, Amazon and Google Music.
