Shadow House Competition The Shadow House is a warm and cozy residence nestled on the island of Kungshatt, Sweden. The house is designed to accommodate a couple looking to get away from city life and submerse themselves in nature.

The house includes several light filtration aspects to both keep out light when and where it’s necessary as well as receive light. The ecofriendly timber skeleton, atop the home, acts as a barrier between the interior of the house and the surrounding nature outside, filtering in the light where it is most needed.

The center of The Shadow House is an open-air courtyard providing light throughout the home at all times of the day and bringing an exterior feel inside the comfort of the home. The sliding panels act as a barrier from the sun and create temporary walls filtering the light.

All design elements were planned in accordance with the location and objectives of the project. This allowed for the layout of the home to create a comfortable and unique experience.

Unveiling Sustainability This project, located on Brady Island along the Houston Ship Channel is comprised of two volumes serving a unique purpose-- one an aluminum recycling center and the other a multimedia hub.

The design concept revolves around the harmonious coexistence of the two volumes where the roof begins to “peel away.”

This design choice is a metaphorical representation of an unveiling action and exposure of knowledge to the public.

The importance of recycling, the recycling process, and sustainability is unveiled and represented in multiple elements of the site.

The project’s landscape is a reminder that the work of preservation and commitment can counterbalance the industrial surroundings and create inviting spaces for people to dwell.

REPLICA+E This project takes abstracts elements from David Chipperfield’s River and Rowing Museum. The result is a dwelling for students on the Menil Campus. Situated south of the Menil Drawing Institute, the REPLICA+E project exists as a living space, social space, and extracurricular space.

The proposal explores different dimensions of a space through doubling, transparency, and materiality.

The two twin structures co-exist in space without any physical or literal connection, but through visual and spacial relationships.

The project’s doubling effect radiates an ethereal and almost even uncanny effect. In different views, REPLICA+E acts as one seamless building, two replicas, and even two different buildings.The circulation of the two buildings alternates between open and closed spaces, allowing for different preferences of spacial qualities.

Solid layers such as five foot floors are shrouded by an expanded metal mesh veil. This raises the question, “What worlds exist beyond this veil?”

Rhapsody House Rhapsody is a hosue redefined for musicians. This is inspired by Ryue Nishizawa’s Moriyama House, which emphasizes floating and lightness. It is composed of thin columns that allow volumes to float freely and break away from the old, exisiting forms.

A Rhapsody is a one-movement piece of music that explores multiple free-flowing sections.

O[PA]VILION O[PA]VILION is derived from a series of studies using Stan Allen’s field conditions. The project explores different grids and organizational systems to create intricate relationships between human scale, space, and experience.

The result is a pavilion that delicately balances between public and private spaces— for the thinker, the lover, and the mingler.
