EnjoyyourClub!
Being part of Coral Ridge Yacht Club has been one of the best decisions Marybeth and I have made Almost 8 years ago, we were new to Fort Lauderdale in search of new friends We met a Member that invited us to visit CRYC and the rest is history
I joined the membership committee right away and found it was the best way to meet like-minded people. I kept involved by joining the board and continuing on different committees and got to know even more friends. There are no longer enough days in the week to keep up with all our new friends!
We always try to come to the Club on Friday nights to catch up with everybody and group events like Cruisers and Wine Club help us maintain connections I want to thank everyone for all the support during my year as Commodore. We are all owners and care about our Club.
There are so many amenities to take advantage of and it is easy to lose track of all we have Our new pontoon boat is great fun on the water and easy to handle Our Dockmaster, Drew Johnson, is always happy to show you the ropes We also have kayaks, paddleboards, sailboats and other toys that are available for a Members use
If you have not tried our Fitness Center, you will find state-of-the-art equipment and a great view while exercising! The pool is wonderful and usually just the right temperature and the pickleball court will be coming soon. Make sure you take advantage of all we have to offer!
FOLLOWTHE DRESS CODE

Two of the best amenities available to Members is our reciprocal agreement with Fort Lauderdale Country Club and the Florida Council of Yacht Clubs
The golf club invites CRYC Members to play their courses once a month and visit their restaurant most anytime. The grounds of FLCC are pristine and it is a welcoming place to visit.
The Florida Council of Yacht Clubs includes 35 clubs all over the state that you can bring your boat or just come by for dining Your first day of dockage is free except electric Some of the clubs that we can visit include Key Biscayne, Naples, Sarasota, Royal Palm, Boca, Coral Reef, Miami and more
Please see Tami Lawlor, our Membership Director at 954 566-7888, for information on how to utilize this great amenity. It is important to check out their dress codes and policies before visiting other clubs.
I hope all of you take advantage of everything our Club has to offer and enjoy your friends!

Best regards,
T. Fred Roche Commodore
Please remember our Dress Code and hat policies as they pertain to the Clubhouse. Hats, caps, or visors are not allowed to be worn inside the Clubhouse (even if you are walking through to the patios or pool deck). However, you can wear hats on the Auxiliary and Burgee Patios. Appropriate bathing suits and cover-ups for ladies and similar for gentlemen and children are permitted on the Auxiliary Patio and, of course, the pool deck dining tables. (No cheeky bottoms or sheer/fishnet cover-ups are permitted.) Please make sure to share the dress code with your family and friends when bringing them to the Club to prevent any awkward situations.

KIDS’ COOKING CLASS

DearCRYCMembers:
Happy summer, CRYC! If you have been to the Club lately, you see The Pointe coming to the final phases of completion, which is getting everyone even more excited for the fall! But in the meantime, our Members have been enjoying making summer memories at our many events. . . with more to come.
For example, our Independence Day celebration was nothing short of spectacular! Chef Steve prepared an amazing allAmerican cookout, and DJ Misha kept the party alive with fantastic music. It was wonderful to see everyone enjoying the festivities with friends and family. The fireworks display was a perfect finale to an unforgettable evening. Thank you all for joining us and making this event so special.
The Sailing & Water Sports Foundation kicked off our Summer Sailing Program with the help of our partners, supporting our next generation of sailors. The kids are having a great time while learning lifelong skills, and we are so proud of their achievements. Stop by and see them in action on the water!
Speaking of boating, let’s not forget our very own Pontoon Boat Christening on July 12! Richard Lewis, our Food & Beverage Director, sabered a bottle of champagne and Governor Jim Pease toasted to Neptune, the god of the sea. Our Treasurer, Barbara Gehrig, won the name challenge contest with her clever moniker Coral Cruiser. After the glasses clinked, Dockmaster Drew Johnson treated Members to a maiden voyage aboard the newest named vessel in our fleet.
The champagne continued to flow during our Girls Night Out“Bubbles and Beachwear” – which hosted over 30 CRYC ladies who came out to enjoy prosecco, summertime fashions, Chef Steve’s creations, and great conversation. Be sure to sign up for the next one, ladies. It’s a “Sip & Paint” event on September 25 that you don’t want to miss! Unleash your inner artist, chat with friends, and try some amazing wines on the Veranda. Not only will it be a fun night, but you’ll also get to create a personalized memento to take home with you!
We rescheduled our Jimmy Buffett-themed “Wastin Away Again in Margaritaville” party to accommodate our Members who are traveling. Join us island-style on August 31 for an evening of tropical vibes, live music, and refreshing margaritas. So put on your parrot head gear and get ready to party. As Jimmy Buffett says, “It’s 5 o’clock somewhere!”

Then, as we approach the unofficial end of summer, mark your calendars for our Labor Day Pool Party & Cookout, with live music by Mama Fuma Band. It’s the perfect way to wind down and say “cheers” to the lazy, hazy days of summer.
As a friendly reminder, the Clubhouse will be closed after Labor Day, from Tuesday, September 3 -Tuesday, September 17, for our annual shutdown. During this time, the Club will be closed for food and beverage services so our staff can get some muchneeded time off and to do cleaning and maintenance projects. We will reopen Wednesday, September 18th.
As always, your feedback is appreciated and welcomed. If there is anything you would like to share, please stop by and see me, send a comment card or an email, or call me directly. For anyone wishing a more personal feedback “experience,” I would like to invite you to join me on Friday, August 9, at 9:00 AM for “Nine O’Clock with Nadine.” Please join me in the Burgee Bar for complimentary coffee and pastries to share any suggestions or just to chat. No reservations required.
See you at your “Home Away from Home” - your Club!

NadineD.Rockwell,CCM GeneralManager/COO
Auxiliary

Those of us still in town can attest to the fact that the dog days of summer have hit with a vengeance Though the weather is hardly ideal, we can at least look forward, each month, to Auxiliary’s Luncheons, where Members can meet, greet, and socialize
Our summer schedule has been casual June and July Luncheons provided a lovely break, and Members enjoyed sharing their favorite recipes Our next luncheon will be August 14th Please mark your calendar for the second Wednesday of the month and call in your reservation so you don’t miss out. Keep an eye out for further details as the summer progresses.
While you have your calendar out, be sure to mark the date of our annual Fashion Show, November 13th. It’s as popular as ever; be sure to reserve your seat.
In the meantime, enjoy your summer wherever you are.
Please join me in extending a warm welcome to our newest Members, Bruce Harshman and Neill Stouffer If you have not yet joined, please contact Jodi Dumas at jodidumas@outlook com or 610-417-3855
Sincerely yours,
Ellen Landauer

As I write this article, the summer Sailing Camp is in full swing, and we look forward to our best camp ever. All four sessions are completely sold out, and many of the kids enjoying the experience are on full scholarships. The camp not only provides a wonderful experience for our members but also for many kids in the community who would not otherwise have the opportunity to enjoy and learn the many skills they will leave with.
It seems that more people are using our paddleboards, kayaks, and sailboats I want to remind you that they have been upgraded this past year and are available for your use at no cost to you We have a large investment in that equipment and hope you will take advantage of the opportunity to enjoy it
A reminder that the bidding on the two painted sails done by the talented local artist Chris Kram will close on FOUNDATION DAY, which is scheduled for October 20, 2024 The proceeds will benefit your Foundation and are tax-deductible to the full extent of the law FOUNDATION DAY will be a great opportunity to enjoy the new Pointe, the Pool, and, of course, the Sailing Center. It will be a day of outdoor fun and learning more about your Foundation and our mission. It will feature live music and a nice BBQ. Of course, our water toys will also be available for your enjoyment on Sunrise Bay.

Bob Epstein, President
We are expecting delivery of our new enclosed trailer, which will be used to store much of our equipment safely and orderly. By the time you read this article, it will be at the club with attractive CRYC Foundation graphics
As always, we appreciate your donations and participation in our events which enabled us to continue our good work Just a reminder, if you would like to have your name included or upgraded on our TEAM FOUNDATION PLAQUE please contact me, Roz Alford or any of our Board Members

TheTimelessInspirationofCookbooks: AChef’sTestament
In the modern era, culinary inspiration often comes from the devices in our hands. With the convenience of technology, new recipes, and innovative techniques are just a tap away. As a Chef, I, too, rely on this digital treasure trove for quick and easy access to the culinary world's latest trends and ideas.
However, my journey as a Chef began long before the digital age, in the 1980s and 1990s, when inspiration came from different sources. Magazines played a significant role in shaping our culinary dreams. Gourmet, Food & Wine, and Bon Appétit were eagerly awaited, each new issue sparking excitement among cooks. If you were willing to splurge, Art Culinaire, a quarterly hard-covered magazine, provided breathtaking photographs that left us in awe.
Television also offered culinary inspiration through shows hosted by legends like Emeril Lagasse and Lidia Bastianich. Their charismatic presence and culinary prowess made every episode a learning experience.
Yet, amid these sources, my favorite source of inspiration was and remains the cookbook. To me, cookbooks are the sacred texts of the culinary world. Even now, three floor-to-ceiling bookshelves in my home are filled with these cherished volumes.
Collecting cookbooks was a common practice among Chefs, each having favorites. Some specialized in specific cuisines or techniques, while others were essential for every Chef’s collection.
Here are my five favorite cookbooks of all time, books that shaped my career and remain invaluable:
1. French Cuisine: “Mastering the Art of French Cooking” by Julia Child
This seminal work by Julia Child and co-authors Louisette Bertholle and Simone Beck demystified French cooking for American audiences. Its detailed instructions and passion for the craft are unparalleled.
2. Italian Cuisine: “The Silver Spoon” by Phaidon
Known as the bible of authentic Italian cooking, this cookbook offers a comprehensive collection of traditional recipes that celebrate Italy's rich culinary heritage.

3. Natural California Cuisine: “Chez Panisse Menu Cookbook” by Alice Waters
This cookbook beautifully encapsulates Alice Waters' revolutionary approach to fresh, locally sourced ingredients. It embodies the essence of California cuisine and the farm-to-table movement.
4. Creole and Cajun Cuisine: “Chef Paul Prudhomme’s Louisiana Kitchen” by Paul Prudhomme
Chef Paul Prudhomme's vibrant personality and rich flavors shine through in this cookbook. It introduced many to the bold, exciting world of Creole and Cajun cuisine.
5. Basic Home Cooking: “Joy of Cooking” by Irma Rombauer
A staple in countless kitchens, this comprehensive guide covers everything from basic techniques to classic recipes, making it an indispensable resource for home cooks and professional chefs alike.
A special shout out to Auguste Escoffier, Marc Bittman, and countless other authors whose cookbooks have inspired chefs worldwide. Everyone has their favorites, but the five listed here are the ones that I turned to repeatedly, wearing out their pages with constant use.
To me, cookbooks are more than just collections of recipes. They are gateways to different cultures, eras, and philosophies of cooking. They provide a tangible connection to the chefs who came before us and the culinary traditions they helped to preserve and innovate.
In an age of digital convenience, the enduring appeal of a wellloved cookbook remains unmatched—a true testament to the timeless power of the written word in the world of gastronomy.

CRYCCruisers
DearCruisers,

The trip to the Bahamas was heavily marred by rain. What hit Florida in mid-June also covered the Bahamas with sheet rain. The one positive was that the air was cooled, and the water was much cooler than last year. It was a very different summer experience.
Giuliana Hirshon and Todd Pelletier, along with Judy and Dennis Lincoln, hosted a marvelous summer event at the Fisher Island Club. Six boats went with about 30 people in attendance! Giulianna and Judy are excellent hosts working hard to promote and coordinate another fabulous Cruisers event.
Join us for our 2nd Day Trippers Event on Saturday, August 10th, as Meredith Campbell leads the way on your next adventure to Whiskey Creek! Departing from the Club around 10am, we will enjoy a leisurely cruise to our destination. You can pre-order your boxed lunches from the Club and pick them up there. Upon arrival, join a friendly game of kickball on the beach or relax to a game of Cornhole with a cocktail in hand. We will bid farewell to Whiskey Creek at 3pm, returning just in time for a pool party and grill out at the Club. These are the last days of summer, so don’t miss out on a day filled with fun, fun, and friends! Please sign up using this form: https://form.jotform.com/240867976259072 OR email meredithroycampbell@gmail.com
Town of Palm Harbour September 20-22 is shaping up fast. There is still room at one of the surrounding marinas, but you had better book fast. Hosted by Judy Lincoln and Ramona Fowler. We will go to happy hour at 4pm at the Brazilian Court and later have a three-course dinner at Bice. The cost per person will be $175 for Members, and for non-members, it will be $200. Additionally, on Saturday morning at 10am, Uber will take us to Flagler Museum. Get your tickets at www.flaglermuseam.us/visiting/visiting. This event is hosted by Maribel Bunin. Let Ramona Fowler know how many in your party.at ramona2email@gmail.com
Our Naples weekend will honor two well-known yacht clubs. The Sailing and Yacht Club is hosting us for a happy hour and dinner if you would like on Friday the 17th. Naples Yacht Club is our October 18th destination. Dine in their newly renovated main dining room in opulence and style. Naples Yacht Club has a strict dress code in their main dining room. We must be on our best behavior. Other Yacht clubs are not permitted in the main dining room. However, with our personal connections, this event has permitted us to do so.
Please email MyMysticStar@gmail.com and let me know the size of your group. This is a wonderful destination that can be reached by car or boat.
See you at the Club!

CONSTRUCTION CORNER

The Pointe is close to completion. The one major task is to install a fire service line from the front gate area to the Pointe. Currently, the contractor is working with our General Manager and her team, as well as the design professionals, to go through a punch list of issues needing attention to complete the construction effort. Landscape installation should be completed by the time The Log is published.

Observing Colors is a time-honored ceremony adopted by the US Navy in 1843
Service members and civilians take part in this long - standing tradition to reflect on the sacrifices of the women and men who devoted their lives to protect our nation’s shores from foes. To many, this custom is rooted in a sense of deep pride and is a symbol of admiration
Approximately ten minutes before sunset, as calculated by the Fleet Captain, the word is passed “First call, first call to color ” The honor guard of the day will form near the point of hoist of the ensign At that time, there will be no services provided by the CRYC and its staff, including the bars, until after the conclusion of Colors and the ensign has been presented to the proper authority.
2. Immediately before sunset, “Attention” is sounded by one horn blast, blown on a whistle, or eight bells is sounded ALL PERSONS, INCLUDING CHILDREN, within sight or hearing, face the ensign, remove their head gear, place their right hand over their heart and STAND AT ATTENTION and REMAIN SILENT unless singing the National Anthem Boats in the vicinity lie to, or proceed at the slowest possible speed, and the boat officer or coxswain stands and salutes
3 The order “Execute” is then given: the cannon will be fired, and the ensign is lowered slowly. The National Anthem or “To the Colors” (Retreat) will be played with the ensign starting down the staff.
4 When the ensign is completely lowered, folded, and presented to the proper authority, the word is passed “Carry on, ” at which time, salutes are terminated, and the ceremony is over
Congressional Defense Authorization Act of 2009, which President Bush signed on October 14, 2009, entitles retired or former military members in civilian to render the hand salute
Let’s show our pride and respect at CRYC and abide by proper flag etiquette. Flag etiquette reminded: All yacht ensigns should also be struck (taken down and removed) at sunset until the following day

Be prepared to show evidence of your membership in another Council member club Carry your membership card; or, be prepared to show it on your mobile phone; or, have a letter of introduction from your club
Inquire about dress code when making a reservation
Inquire about any club events that may be going on at the time you want to visit
Clubs in close geographic proximity to other FCYC member clubs may impose special reciprocity restrictions on the members of those clubs within close proximity Inquire of your club about any special reciprocity restrictions that may be in place by clubs in close proximity
Reciprocity privileges should not be abused, including the frequency with which any one host club is visited
A visiting member of another FCYC club is expected to comply with the host club’s governing documents, including house and marina rules
Some clubs require visiting boaters to provide proof of insurance and require minimum levels of coverage Visiting boaters should inquire of such requirements when reserving a slip
Your Expectations of Privileges When Visiting a Host Club:
With a few exceptions, a visiting member of another Council club should be treated no differently than a member of the visited (host) club Two acknowledged exceptions include:
FCYC member clubs with golf courses are not required to offer golf as a reciprocity benefit
Clubs may, in some cases, have a charge for visitor parking
Charges of a visiting FCYC member are to be billed back to the visitor’s club While a host club may offer to settle the charges via credit card, it is the choice of the visiting member whether to settle the charges via credit card or billing to his/her home club
With few exceptions, the prices paid for goods and services by a visiting member of another Council for the sale of fuel and for private events hosted for a visiting member
Reasonable effort should be made on the part of a host club to honor the reciprocity visit request of a member of another Council club Seasonal restrictions on reciprocity are not appropriate
It is understood that certain special events held at a club may result in the club being unable to extend reciprocity for very short periods of time
Any Council member club may decline to extend reciprocity privileges or limit the extent of reciprocal privileges to any individual member of another Council member club A comprehensive guide on reciprocity entitled “Reciprocity Standards - Q&A” may be found in Section J of the Council’s Information Binder, copies of which are maintained by your club’s office and FCYC Director
