One of the Food & Beverage Team’s ongoing goals is to deliver outstanding service.
We would ask if you wish to have cocktails and hors d’oeuvres before dinner, please plan to arrive 30 - 40 minutes earlier than your requested reservation time. This allows the team to offer a smooth evening to all Members and guests and lets the staff in both the front and back of the house properly prepare.
We appreciate and will always try to accommodate our walk-in guests as best we can in a timely manner; however, priority will always be given to those who make reservations and those who call ahead to ask about seating availability. Just as great restaurants do, we strive to pace our Members and guests for a better flow of service. This improves the timing in the kitchen and minimizes delays. We strive to exceed your expectations and appreciate your support.
The Club’s service charge is 20%; however, for extraordinary service, you may add an additional tip under the “Extra Tip” category. Bon Appétit!
The summer season is coming to a close, and our Members that are snowbirds are beginning to return. I am looking forward to seeing all our Members together again. Many thanks to our local Members that supported the Club in the summer months. The staff depends on you! The summer events were great and well attended and ideas for future events are streaming in. I especially want to thank our Member families who have been patient with the inconvenience of the construction. The play areas and dining areas for children and parents that enjoy the outside have been difficult to deal with. The results of the finished product will be a joy for everyone. You deserve it!
We are approaching the final steps for opening the new Pointe facility. All construction work of the restaurant should be finished by mid-September, and we will enter the permit approval processes necessary to open for business. Once all permits and health department approvals allow us our occupancy permit, we will begin to outfit the kitchen and deliver the furniture. All the furniture for the Pointe is in storage and ready to place. Following the completion of the Pointe, we will work on the pickleball and basketball courts and finish the back parking lot.
Your Board of Governors will be sending out a voting package shortly for the election of this year’s Nominating Committee. This committee will interview and select candidates for Three Governor positions; Secretary, Treasurer and Rear Commodore. If you have an interest in joining these rewarding positions, please contact any Board Member for information.
We are working on replacing the GM position that opened in mid-August. The entire Clubhouse Team has stepped up to manage their departments during this process. We have some great candidates and look forward to an announcement soon.
Looking forward to seeing you again soon around the Club!
T. Fred Roche Commodore
Please remember our dress code and hat policies as they pertain to the Clubhouse. Hats, caps, or visors are not allowed to be worn inside the Clubhouse (even if you are walking through to the patios or pool deck). However, you can wear hats on the Auxiliary and Burgee Patios. Appropriate bathing suits and cover-ups for ladies and similar for gentlemen and children are permitted on the Auxiliary Patio and, of course, the pool deck dining tables. (No cheeky bottoms or sheer/fishnet cover-ups are permitted.) Please make sure to share the dress code with your family and friends when bringing them to the Club to prevent any awkward situations.
Anna Marie Torres President
Fall is peeking around the corner. The oppressive heat of summer has fallen, snowbirds are heading home, and Auxiliary cheers their return. The quieter, more casual summer lunches will now give way to the formal luncheons with their exciting programs that so many of you enjoy.
Please take out your calendar to mark our major fall events. At our September 18th Luncheon we will feature Michael Cavo, a Dillard’s Cosmetics Brand Leader, making a return visit to CRYC to offer his Tips and Tricks regarding make-up application. We all want to look our beautiful best. Call in your reservation; the date is coming up quickly.
We all need to focus on our personal well-being. How to be pro-active will be the theme at our October 9th Luncheon. While October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which concerns us all, physical safety is also on our minds. Please join us, as our featured guest, Christine Fingado of Fort Lauderdale Defense, will provide a workshop on self-protection. We can all learn a thing or two. Reserve your seat.
November 13th is the date for our ever-popular annual Fashion Show. “New York, New York” is this year’s theme. The excitement this program generates, with the shopping, the raffles, and, of course, the dining, is contagious. Everyone has a wonderful time. This program fills up quickly. Do not miss out; sign up.
Our Holiday Luncheon will take place on December 11th, capping off a wonderful fall season, with good holiday cheer. We have much to look forward to!
Please join me in welcoming our newest Auxiliary member, Mercy Padron. If you have not yet joined, please contact Jodi Dumas at jodidumas@outlook.com or 610-417-3855.
Sincerely yours,
Ellen Landauer

This year’s sailing camp has been a great success with over 40 kids attending, many on full scholarships.
A lot of planning, effort and funding are required to put together a successful program. Special thanks go to all the Coaches, our partners: The City of Ft. Lauderdale, the LYC Foundation, and our donors who made this possible. Special thanks to Donna and the CRYC Management and Staff for their hard work.
We look forward to another successful Summer Sailing Program next year, but right now we are busy planning for some additional programs including an after-school program and hopefully a crew program in the future.
I am sure you all enjoyed the Olympics, as I did, and hope that you had the opportunity to see Ft Lauderdale’s Erica Reineke compete in the Women’s Dinghy Sailing Race. If not, you can watch it on You Tube. We are proud to be one of Erica’s sponsors.
I had the pleasure of receiving a Thank You card from the Campbell family on behalf of the Sailing Families at CRYC and some great pictures. On behalf of the Foundation Board, thank you and all the CRYC sailors for your participation and ongoing support. We hope that our efforts have a positive impact on their lives.
As you may have noticed, we finally have our enclosed trailer which will be used to store our equipment on site. It is scheduled to have the graphics done in early September and will be a welcome addition to our ailing Center. Thanks goes to Larry Bohannon, Paul Ericson and Kevin Cassell for their help.
We look forward to your continued donations by participating in our programs and events. Please save the date. For those of you who are not included in our TEAM FOUNDATION DONORS’ PLAQUE or would like to upgrade, we will be making the changes following Foundation Day. Please contact me or any of our Board Members to do so or if you would like any additional information regarding donations.
As always, we appreciate your continued support.
Sincerely yours,
Bob Epstein

On my days off in Florida, there’s nothing better than hopping in the Jeep, hitting the beach for an hour in the morning, and then setting out to explore some of the best restaurants from Hollywood to Delray Beach!
I’m always on the hunt for authentic meals, and I don’t mind driving anywhere in Broward or Dade counties to find them. Here are a few of my favorite spots that are definitely worth checking out:
Chinese Cuisine: Hong’s BBQ
6832 Stirling Rd, Davie, FL
For those who appreciate authentic Cantonese-Style cooking, Hong’s BBQ is a must-visit! Their Roast Pork and Duck are truly exceptional, capturing the essence of traditional Cantonese flavors.
Thai Cuisine: Larb Thai-Isan
Address: 6234 N Federal Highway
Larb Thai-Isan is a gem for anyone serious about authentic Thai food! The Duck Salad and Beef Jerky are standout dishes that always keep me coming back for more.
Indian Cuisine: Arun’s Indian Kitchen
Address: 10278 W Sample Road, Coral Springs
While Arun’s Indian Kitchen is takeout only, the food is worth it! Every dish is amazing, but the Chicken Saag and Lamb Vindaloo are my personal favorites.
Pizza: Frank and Pepe New Haven Style Pizza
Address: 341 N University Drive
For a taste of New Haven-Style pizza, Frank and Pepe’s is unbeatable! My go-to is the Clam Pie, which never disappoints.
Casual Seafood: Papa’s Raw Bar
Address: 4610 N Federal Highway
Papa’s Raw Bar is one of my personal favorite spots for casual seafood. I usually go for a dozen Oysters, a Sushi Roll, and a Fresh Catch of Fish – all of which are consistently fresh and delicious!
Fancy Seafood: Eddie V’s
Eddie V’s impressed me with its old-school charm! The service is impeccable, the fish is fresh and perfectly prepared, and they even offer a separate gluten-free menu for those who need it.
Italian Cuisine: Osteria Aqua Farina
Address: 1145 S Federal Highway
When I’m in the mood for Italian, Osteria Aqua Farina is the place to be! I recommend the Eggplant Appetizer and Chicken Liver Pasta.
Steakhouse: Council Oak, Hard Rock Hotel
Location: Hard Rock Hotel
Council Oak at the Hard Rock Hotel embodies everything a steakhouse should be. It’s the perfect spot for a classic steakhouse experience!
All-Time Favorite: Cooking for My Family at Coral Ridge Yacht Club
While I love dining out, nothing beats cooking for my family at the Coral Ridge Yacht Club! It’s where I truly feel at home, and I hope you do as well.
I’m always on the lookout for new dining experiences… If you have any must-try spots, please let me know. Bon appétit!

Whenever you see Sebastian the Seahorse on our adult - based party invitations, it means that the Kids’ Club will be available on that night. So, you can plan your evening knowing that your children will be in safe hands and having a blast.
Three couples from Cruisers (Maribel & Bruce Bunin, Ramona & Jim Fowler, and Brent and I) embarked upon a journey aboard Viking Cruise Lines beginning on August 1 and concluding on August 21. Not only did we spend days in Stockholm, the most beautiful city in Sweden, but then we went to Poland, Berlin, Copenhagen, Oslo, and Bergen. Our last few days were spent in Iceland. We all enjoyed river cruises, helicopter tours, and incredible tours of castles from distant times.
Our Cruisers group visited the fantastic Fisher Island Club in August, a private island in Miami Beach. Cruisers enjoyed the marina, pools, beach, golf, spa, and wonderful dinners at the Vanderbilt mansion. They also enjoyed docktails by the boats and a fun time at the Beach Club. Several went by boat, and others by car and stayed at the island’s cottages. Judy and Dennis Lincoln prepared another one of their scavenger hunts, this time by golf carts.
Thank you to our hosts Giuliana Hirshson, Todd Pelletier and Judy and Dennis Lincoln.
Our next adventure is The Town of Palm Beach Marina, hosted by Ramona Fowler and Maribel Bunin. Activities will include going to the Flagler Museum on Saturday, as well as hosting other parties and activities all weekend long. If you don’t have a boat but you do have a car, you can drive and join us for the fun and festivities, but there is a sign-up fee, so you’ve got to get in touch with Ramona Fowler at Ramona2email@gmail.com.
Let me thank Giuliana Hirshson for hosting our last Cruisers dinner, and don’t forget our next Cruisers Dinner on the second Thursday of the month. See you at the Club!
Day Trippers had another fabulous event hosted by Meredith Campbell. Nine boats hooked up with visitors who drove down to participate in a day, especially for them. Meredith dubbed it “The last splash before class!” The whole event, wound up at the Club with an after party with DJ Jason! I can’t thank Meredith enough for all the spirit she’s put into these two events.

Our first novel for the season is a BOLD, SMART and HILARIOUS look at early feminism in the early ‘60s. Please join our facilitator, Susan Mc Namara, for a discussion of Lesson in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus, on Friday, September 27, 2024.
Lesson in Chemistry explores the exploits of Chemist Elizabeth Zott. She is not your average woman. But it’s the early 1960’s and her all-male team at the research institute takes a very unscientific view of her and equality.
Not only does she find herself a single mother, but she is the reluctant star of America’s most beloved cooking show Supper at Six. Her unusual approach to cooking proves revolutionary in daring her audience to change the status quo.
Please make reservations at the front desk, and, at that time, make your lunch selection from the variety of sandwiches (egg salad, tuna salad, or chicken salad) on white, wheat or rye bread. A Cobb Salad or other menu choices are also available. Lunch is promptly at 12 noon when the book discussion begins.

Ladies can learn his tips and tricks to enhance their natural beauty with Chanel and Dior products and various other brands. For lunch, we will be serving caesar salad with grilled salmon and dessert.
The Pointe is close to completion. The one major task left to complete is to install a fire service line from the front gate area to the Pointe. Trenching for the fire line began the week of August 5th in the north parking lot. This work will be done in two phases. The second phase will be from the maintenance building to the front gate area. Maximum duration for this work should be four weeks.
Work will progress on the punch list, which continues to get smaller. The kitchen hood will be tested the week of August 5th. This will enable the contractor to ensure that the air conditioning system is well balanced for full operations. POS systems and televisions will be installed as we get closer to the opening date. Furniture is in storage and will soon be installed. Of course, the city will have to perform the final inspections for us to get a certificate of occupancy.

Jesse and Jon Bon Jovi shared a vision to disrupt the wine category with a wine brand that is unlike the others. The two created the full concept of the brand and brought on famed French winemaker, Gérard Bertrand. This team of rockstars made a rosé that perfectly blends the best French wine and the Hamptons laidback style – Hampton Water.

The Negroni is an Italian cocktail with equal parts gin, vermouth, and Campari served on the rocks, garnished with an orange slice. This cocktail is great for the autumn months approaching.
Observing Colors is a time-honored ceremony adopted by the US Navy in 1843. Service members and civilians take part in this long - standing tradition to reflect on the sacrifices of the women and men who devoted their lives to protect our nation’s shores from foes. To many, this custom is rooted in a sense of deep pride and is a symbol of admiration.
1. Approximately ten minutes before sunset, as calculated by the Fleet Captain, the word is passed “First call, first call to color.” The honor guard of the day will form near the point of hoist of the ensign. At that time, there will be no services provided by the CRYC and its staff, including the bars, until after the conclusion of Colors and the ensign has been presented to the proper authority.
2. Immediately before sunset, “Attention” is sounded by one horn blast, blown on a whistle, or eight bells is sounded. ALL PERSONS, INCLUDING CHILDREN, within sight or hearing, face the ensign, remove their head gear, place their right hand over their heart and STAND AT ATTENTION and REMAIN SILENT unless singing the National Anthem. Boats in the vicinity lie to, or proceed at the slowest possible speed, and the boat officer or coxswain stands and salutes.
3. The order “Execute” is then given: the cannon will be fired, and the ensign is lowered slowly. The National Anthem or “To the Colors” (Retreat) will be played with the ensign starting down the staff.
4. When the ensign is completely lowered, folded, and presented to the proper authority, the word is passed “Carry on,” at which time, salutes are terminated, and the ceremony is over.
Congressional Defense Authorization Act of 2009, which President Bush signed on October 14, 2009, entitles retired or former military members in civilian to render the hand salute.
Let’s show our pride and respect at CRYC and abide by proper flag etiquette. Flag etiquette reminded: All yacht ensigns should also be struck (taken down and removed) at sunset until the following day.
The holiday season is fast approaching, and our calendars are filling up quickly! Secure your spot now to host a memorable holiday party with us. Whether it’s a festive gathering with friends and family or a corporate event with colleagues, we have the perfect venue for you!

Your Responsibilities When Visiting Another FCYC Club:
• Reservations should be made with the hosting club. Even if the decision to visit another FCYC club is spur-ofthe-moment, a call to the hosting club is appropriate.
• Be prepared to show evidence of your membership in another Council member club. Carry your membership card; or, be prepared to show it on your mobile phone; or, have a letter of introduction from your club.
• Inquire about dress code when making a reservation.
• Inquire about any club events that may be going on at the time you want to visit.
• Clubs in close geographic proximity to other FCYC member clubs may impose special reciprocity restrictions on the members of those clubs within close proximity. Inquire of your club about any special reciprocity restrictions that may be in place by clubs in close proximity.
• Reciprocity privileges should not be abused, including the frequency with which any one host club is visited.
• A visiting member of another FCYC club is expected to comply with the host club’s governing documents, including house and marina rules.
• Some clubs require visiting boaters to provide proof of insurance and require minimum levels of coverage. Visiting boaters should inquire of such requirements when reserving a slip.
Your Expectations of Privileges When Visiting a Host Club:
• With a few exceptions, a visiting member of another Council club should be treated no differently than a member of the visited (host) club. Two acknowledged exceptions include:
• FCYC member clubs with golf courses are not required to offer golf as a reciprocity benefit.
• Clubs may, in some cases, have a charge for visitor parking.
• Charges of a visiting FCYC member are to be billed back to the visitor’s club. While a host club may offer to settle the charges via credit card, it is the choice of the visiting member whether to settle the charges via credit card or billing to his/her home club.
• With few exceptions, the prices paid for goods and services by a visiting member of another Council for the sale of fuel and for private events hosted for a visiting member.
• Reasonable effort should be made on the part of a host club to honor the reciprocity visit request of a member of another Council club. Seasonal restrictions on reciprocity are not appropriate.
• It is understood that certain special events held at a club may result in the club being unable to extend reciprocity for very short periods of time.
• Any Council member club may decline to extend reciprocity privileges or limit the extent of reciprocal privileges to any individual member of another Council member club.
A comprehensive guide on reciprocity entitled “Reciprocity Standards - Q&A” may be found in Section J of the Council’s Information Binder, copies of which are maintained by your club’s office and FCYC Director.
Did you know your membership allows you to visit other yacht clubs around the country? If you are traveling, consider stopping by a reciprocal club!
