Donation is an important part of society. Many development organizations are run and/or hugely supported by funding. Funding helps run impactful programs and bear costs of essential materials, administration, infrastructure, and many other much-needed items. This helps such establishments continue their relief work and provide solutions to causes like child welfare, education, women empowerment, employment opportunities, protect the environment, abuse survivors, and many others. Many organizations receive one-time, monthly and/or yearly donations. A lot of the organizations create a donation plan according to the kind of monetary support they require. NGOs working with children propose donations for one or multiple children for utilities, tuition classes etc, sponsor a remedial education centre, distribute storybooks, toys etc during special occasions. Similarly, organizations working for other causes also customize their list of options for donors to browse through and select. It is a great way to understand where the donations are utilized, and how the funds for an NGO support specific requirement. During festive seasons and months leading up to the financial year-end, many people are driven to donate and financially support NGOs. A great way to save tax as well as do substantial charity work is by donating and applying for deductions under Section 80G of the Income Tax Act. Under this I-T Act, donations toward specific relief funds and charitable institutions allow for a deduction from the gross total income, before the final taxable income. Also, many NGOs require and appreciate donations made in kind, like clothes, food rations etc but these are not accepted for ‘deductions’ under this Act. Please note that such donations are not income tax exempt. All legitimate non-profits issue a receipt to the donor after accepting the donation. This standard receipt contains the name, address, Pan number and registration number of the respective organization, along with the name of the donor and the amount donated (specified in words and figures). The receipt acts as a proof that is required at the time of filing the year’s ITR. CRY is a non-profit organization that is safe, secure and approved by the Government of India to receive donations. The organization is supported by people across the globe, and is a trusted NGO for donations via cash, cheque or any other digital payment method. CRY is currently running several programs for underprivileged children, to resolve the issue of illiteracy, child labour, child trafficking, poverty, malnutrition etc. Do your bit and donate now!
