LEADER PRODUCTS OUR STORY Launched in 1948, Leader Products began as a specialist manufacturer and wholesale distributor of livestock identification systems and animal husbandry products.

In the 1960’s, Leader Products began producing cattle tags for the Australian & New Zealand livestock industry. Innovative designs like their two-piece ear tags were patented in the 1980’s and further established their stake as an innovator in livestock identification and animal husbandry products.

In 1950, Leader Products started producing Australia’s first plastic ear tags for sheep and by 1956, had become the predominant supplier for ID tags to the Australian and New Zealand sheep industries.

In 2018, Leader Products Pty Ltd formed a partnership with Queclink Wireless Solutions Co. Ltd for the exclusive distribution rights of Leader Products outside of the Australian and New Zealand market.

Combining the experience of Leader Products in the industry and the technology of Queclink, the two companies have joined forces to revolutionise the livestock identification industry by providing reliable and innovative solutions for managing livestock.

We understand the only way to innovate is to think differently. That’s why we continue to introduce new products and roll out our global laser marking facilities and ecommerce platform. TAG REGULATIONS

LINKING TAGS TO YOUR HERD RECODING SOFTWARE

Ear Tag regulations

myHERD Herd Recording Users

All cattle and deer must be tagged with a NAIT approved RFID tag and registered in the NAIT online system within 180 days of birth or before they move off farm, whichever comes first.

> myHERD users must ensure they have selected FarmIQ as their Information Provider on their NAIT account.

Once NAIT animals are tagged, animal registration must be completed within 7 days, or before their first off farm movement, whichever comes first.

> Do this via phone or visit the website. > When you purchase from CRV your tag EID files will be uploaded into myHERD automatically.

NAIT tags cannot be removed without permission from NAIT.

> Access the tags from the Tag Cupboard and allocate to an animal.

NAIT tags cannot be reused for any reason.

NAIT animals cannot move to a different NAIT location without a NAIT tag.

Non CRV Herd Recording Users

When tagging NAIT animals, we recommend that you follow the tag manufacturer’s instructions for maximum tag retention.

> EID files need to be imported to your herd recording software.

NAIT approved RFID Tags

> Request the EID Tag File to be emailed to you, or upload from your tag supplier.

A NAIT approved RFID tag is the device used to identify an individual animal under the NAIT scheme.

> Follow the instructions of your Herd Recording provider to upload the file.

Each NAIT RFID tag contains a microchip with a 15-digit RFID number that is globally unique and can be read by a RFID scanner. The RFID number is linked to a visual identification number that is printed on the tag.

Each tag number is used to register and identify a unique animal in the NAIT online system allowing each animal to be traced throughout its lifetime through the recording of NAIT movements by registered persons in charge of animals (PICAs).

Tag Removal Requests It is an offence under the NAIT Act to remove a NAIT tag without permission from NAIT Limited.

Any PICA that needs to remove or replace a NAIT RFID tag from a NAIT animal, must first contact NAIT to request authorisation on 0800 482 463 or email info@ospri.co.nz It is an offence to alter or reuse a NAIT tag under any circumstances.

Instructions for the application of

NAIT Electronic (EID) Tags Remember: “Right is Right”. It is recommended that NAIT tags are applied to the animal’s right ear to achieve the best performance on farm.

1 IMPORTANT: Remove/slide black insert out of female jaw.

To load, depress spring clip and insert electronic tag, holding raised area between thumb and forefinger.

Slip male tag completely onto applicator pin.

4 Dip jaws of applicator holding tag into antiseptic or disinfectant solution.

5 With the correct position located, apply the tag firmly, always with the male tag entering from the back of the ear.

Correct position in the ear – It is recommended that all EID devices for cattle and deer are placed 25mm closer to the head than centre of the ear to allow for future application of visual management tags. It is important that the tag is placed between the two ribs in the ear.

IMPORTANT: ‘Free Air Space’ will aid healing and retention. Inspect placement after tagging to ensure there is sufficient air space between the ear and the EID tag.

Raised area

Correct position for EID Birth Packs Female tags MUST always be at the front/inside of the ear. The management Birth tag can be applied slightly closer to the head, this will allow room for the larger management/cow tags later in the heifer’s life.

IMPORTANT Failure to read this may result in tag damage. Position the tag so the raised area of the tag is at the front or open end of the Applicator. The raised area of the tag must be at the front of the applicator during application otherwise damage may occur to the tag componentry. Red and green electronic tag applicators can be used to apply Allflex electronic ear tags, along with the EID Lazamatic – the safest applicator to use when tagging in a race.
