THE SMALL SHIP ADVANTAGE ™
American Cruise Lines is the largest U.S. cruise line with more ships, itineraries, and options than any other. Our secret to success is the small size of each ship.
Small Ships Fit in Port Where others run one behemoth ship, we operate multiple small ships. Each can navigate the widest range of river and sea conditions, offer the greatest breadth of itinerary options, and, most importantly, fit harmoniously in the communities we visit.
The Newest Ships Each small ship offers all the amenities and comforts sophisticated travelers have come to expect. In 2018, American Cruise Lines revolutionized river travel with the first truly modern ships on the U.S. rivers. With the most environmentally friendly fleet in the country, each newly constructed ship is the perfect venue for responsible exploration.
The Largest Staterooms For fifty years, American Cruise Lines has taken pride in the generous size of our staterooms, which average over 350 square feet. Although each ship may be small, we challenge you to find larger onboard staterooms anywhere. Plus, every new ship has staterooms with private balconies and floor-to-ceiling glass doors.
Most Itinerary Options Our fleet offers more than 50 itineraries visiting 35 states. With different ship styles, itineraries, and seasonal specialty cruises, the breadth of options provides something for every interest.
THE AMERICAN DIFFERENCE
SOPHISTICATION ON THE RIVERS
American Cruise Lines Leads the Way
WHAT WE ARE NOT
American Cruise Lines does not follow the competition. While others may offer Mega-Mississippi riverboats, or older ships with gimmicks to bring you aboard, we are proud of what we are not:
8 No big ships, No Mega-Mississippi ships
8 No overtourism or crowding ports
8 No pre-paid beverage packages
8 No casinos
8 No pools
8 No small staterooms
8 No inside staterooms
8 No fake "French" balconies
8 No nickel and diming – no point of sale displays
8 No overpriced shore tours
8 No gimmicks
8 No lines
ONBOARD ENRICHMENT
Resident Historians & Experts Every cruise features an onboard expert who hosts discussions and is available throughout each day to add context to your journey. These accomplished professionals also provide briefings on each port, offer their recommendations based on your interests, and connect the stories of each destination to the history of the region.
Nightly entertainment ranges from interactive lectures to live musical performances in one of the ships’ inviting lounges. Resident entertainers provide light music in the afternoon, while renowned artists join us in the evening for world-class entertainment.
ONSHORE EXPERIENCES
Each of our small ships provides a genuine and customized exploration of areas inaccessible to large ships and crowds, allowing us to explore small towns in the most meaningful way possible. Our guided shore excursions bring out the distinct flavor and unique culture of the destinations visited.
Through a careful understanding of our guests, we provide an enriching, destination-focused experience. Small groups visit historic homes, farms, music venues, and more, as we discover each unique place. Every excursion is led by a local guide and accompanied by an American Cruise Lines’ team member who is always available to assist.
OUR CULINARY PROGRAM
Our team of master chefs prepares a traditional American menu with a regional flair that features the freshest ingredients. Local foods are brought aboard daily, some from the farms and vineyards that we visit along the way. Our culinary program is one more way that we connect your onboard experience to the destinations we visit.
MADE IN AMERICA
American Cruise Lines is an all-American family company. Every itinerary is domestic, but it only starts there. Every crewmember is American, the company is 100% American owned, and each ship is designed and built here.
Each new ship begins at Chesapeake Shipbuilding with our team of in-house naval architects and marine engineers. The ships are designed in the U.S. for operation in the U.S., including compliance with U.S. regulations and vessel specifications that match the operating region.
Chesapeake then begins the vessel construction in Salisbury, MD. Steel is sourced from U.S. manufacturers, primarily in Alabama and Pennsylvania. Engines and generators are from a host of American names, including Caterpillar, John Deere, and Cummins, and the list of U.S. parts goes on. The men and women at the yard bring all these pieces together to create each ship.
Once built, the ship becomes one of very few cruise ships that is truly American. It is registered in the U.S. and flies the American flag at the stern, where ships display their nation’s flag.
Our dedicated all-American crewmembers bring the ship to life and share our interest in exploring the U.S. Many of the crew have sailed with us for years, while others are looking for an adventure as they define their careers. Over the course of a year, we travel to a host of American ports – more than 150 towns in 35 states. From the lines in the design lab to the steel in the yard and the smiles of our crew, we are American.
