Waterstop Streamline continues to gain market acceptance Rapidly becoming the new, industry-standard method of shower construction, Waterstop Streamline recently reached its 70,000th product milestone.

Almost 10 years ago a team of water proofers, tilers, shower screen fitters and building supervisors sat down to address the constant problem of call-backs due to leaking shower screens.

After extensive testing, it was found that the cause of most leaks was due to the design of the shower and not to an error by the contractor.

In almost all leaking installations, whether a hob, hob-less or recessed design, the screen was sealed directly to the tiles and not to the waterproofing membrane. This design was allowing water to wick through the grout lines and into the glue cavity. From here, it was travelling underneath the tiles and above the waterproofing membrane to escape the shower enclosure.

An innovative system was designed so that the screen could be sealed directly to the membrane, eliminating this weak spot.

Many other design features were then added, such as a builtin screed gauge to ensure correct fall to waste, keyways to trap liquid applied membranes, ease of screen fitment and a modern appearance in a large range of sizes, shapes and finishes.

The result is a product that is fast to install, maximises floor space, looks great and most importantly provides a failsafe against leaking screens. Solid acceptance by literally hundreds of builders, tilers and water-proofers across the country has meant that production is now over 1000 units per month.

Damage to the Telstra network continues to be an area of concern.

In the past four financial years Telstra has had an average of 20,000 incidents of network damage nationally. That’s nearly 55 damages per day! In Network Integrity we ensure compliance with the strategies put in place to avoid damage and to protect Telstra’s valuable assets. Network Integrity works to avoid the risks of: • Injury or death to workers or the general public • Damage to Telstra’s assets • The significant costs of repairing damage faced by Telstra and those parties responsible • Disruption to services and inconvenience to Telstra customers.

Ripa Concrete Cutting announces latest service offering.

GPR scanning and radio services location now provides a complete package for customers.

For over thirty years Ripa Concrete Cutting has been a preeminent player in the field of concrete cutting. Following a long tradition of investment in state of the art technologies, Ripa has extended its capabilities with GPR scanning and service location equipment.

Ripa Concrete Cutting Managing Director, Kevin Smith, a thirty year veteran of the industry explains the capabilities of the new systems, saying, “GPR or Ground Penetrating Radar is a cost effective method of determining the position of steel reinforcement, post tension cables, wires, pipes etc that are imbedded in concrete prior to making a penetration. In the past, the cost of x-raying a slab was prohibitive and therefore penetration position was determined on a ‘best guess’ basis.

“Often this would result in an interception of services or structural elements requiring very expensive reparation work. This new technology allows us to positively identify and locate hazards and to recommend a change in proposed penetration location prior to cutting. In addition to the GPR equipment we have also invested in radio detection service location units that are able to identify utilities such as power, water and data cabling at depths up to 6 metres”.

A quick synopsis of Ripa’s capabilities makes for impressive reading: • Core drilling capability up to 1000mm in diameter in electric and hydraulic rigs. The hydraulic capability allows inverted and underwater drilling.

• Hand/ring sawing can achieve depths of up to 420mm in hand held applications. Ripa has complemented its range of petrol, electric and hydraulic saws with the very latest in high frequency electro/hydraulic saws that can be fed off 240v or three phase supply. These provide the ultimate in operator safety and workplace adaptability.

• Ripa operates a large fleet of near new diesel road saws, which includes a unit offering cut depths in excess of 600mm.

• Wallsawing or track sawing (the saw runs on a track bolted to the cutting surface) allows for cut depths up to 730mm and can even be used in inverted modes. Ripa has invested in the latest remote control equipment ensuring operator safety and unprecedented accuracy of cut.

• Wire sawing is used for large depth of cuts that cannot be achieved using other technologies. Ripa have wire saws available in a range of capacities.

• Ripa also provides concrete grinding, scabbling, hydraulic rock breaking and hydraulic hand crushing as part of its comprehensive service offerings.

• Brokk Demolition Robots provide Ripa with unparalleled product differentiation in the marketplace. These remote controlled, electric powered machines provide serious demolition capability in a very small package. The smaller unit (Brokk 90) can enter premises via a standard sized door, climb up a stairway and then unleash unprecedented destructive force for a machine this size. The larger machine (Brokk 180) can crush concrete up to 420mm thick.

• Ripa have developed a comprehensive in house training and operator proficiency review system to ensure that quality standards are met. They have developed a WHS system that has been submitted to NSW procurement for accreditation purposes – an industry first. On top of this Ripa is probably the only concrete cutting company in NSW to have a demolition license.

Recent changes to the Piling Code if Australia AS2159 – 2009 and the Residential Building Code AS2870-2012 have changed the way that foundations need to be designed and constructed.

The net effect of this is that there is now allot more that needs to be considered by you and you Engineer when deciding what foundation system you are going to use for your business.

These considerations include: 1. Does your current system comply with all of the current codes so that in the event of a failure you business is protected?

2. Is the contractor that you are using to construct your foundations licensed? – More often than not they do not hold the relevant licence category, for example a concreter’s licence alone does not qualify you to construct Foundations!

3. Is your piling contractor Reputable and Trustworthy? – For such a critical component of any dwelling sometimes it pay’s to ask around.

4. If you are using Concrete Piers are they really as cost effective as you think?

We use screw piers: Helical (screw) pile foundation is predominantly known for its ease and speed of installation.

Highest selling LED’s light up Australia Since opening in 2009, Lemnis Lighting Australia has come a long way in establishing itself as a fore-runner in sustainable lighting.

The history of Lemnis LED’s (light emitting diode) goes back decades to when two young cousins grew up in the city of Eindhoven, Netherlands. Flexiglass: Market leaders in ute canopies and trays The trusted name in canopies and trays now commences an exciting new chapter by establishing a Melbourne based National Office.

Flexiglass commenced in Western Australia in 1949 when Harry Robins saw the first Holden car and identified the need for a station wagon. Harry created his first canopy using a steam bent timber frame and sheet metal panels. It was an outstanding success and he was soon making a range of designs from aluminium sheeting with side sliding windows. This innovative canopy featured laminated glass and an interior dome light.

This was just the beginning for Harry. In 1956 he designed the first ever fibreglass canopy. This canopy was years ahead of its time and featured many similarities to today’s canopies. In 1959 Harry diversified into the fibreglass boat building business and together with his two sons created the foundations of today’s Flexiglass.

Together they designed and perfected a new system of fibreglass that they called Flexiglass. Unlike the ridged canopies of the time, it was extremely lightweight and flexible. Throughout the 1970s, Flexiglass continued to grow and branches were opened in South Australia and Victoria. Demand rapidly grew around the country and New South Wales and Queensland branches soon followed.

In 1989, Flexiglass and Challenge Canopies merged to form Flexiglass Challenge - the largest canopy manufacturer in Australia.

Today, Flexiglass is owned by Fleetwood Corporation, an ASX 200 listed company that acquired Flexiglass in 2002.
