Crowley's Ridge College Lectureship Program 2024

Page 1

It is my honor as the president of Crowley’s Ridge College to extend each of you a heartfelt welcome to our annual Bible lectureship. This cherished longstanding tradition brings us together in fellowship to explore the theme, “That You May Know” from God’s Word in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd John. My desire is for our 2024 lectureship to serve as a beacon of spiritual nourishment, offering guidance and inspiration to our community.

Thank you to each of our teachers and key note speakers for their preparation and ability to encourage us all to align our lives more closely with the teaching in the scriptures. I am also grateful for the excellent work of our Lectureship Committee members, and for their commitment in putting together this marvelous uplifting lectureship series.

Thank you for your participation in this year’s annual Bible lectureship series at CRC. Please let me or any of us at the College know how we can assist you during your visit to our campus.

Blessings to you all,

Lectureship Committee

We are so thankful you are here for our 23rd Annual Lectureship!

The Johannine Epistles are something of an enigma. Very few books are studied, memorized, and quoted more than 1 John. The Apostle John displays his love and compassion for the church and those to whom he writes. When observing these epistles, specifically the first epistle, we can see that John is appealing to the confidence that those who are in Christ can have in their salvation. It is suggested that John wrote this letter to refute heresies that had begun circulating within the church. John warns the church to make observations of those who speak to them, concerning doctrine, by (1) testing the spirits to confirm whether they are of God or Satan, (2) listening to whether or not they confess that Jesus has come in the flesh, (3) observing worldly doctrines concerning Christ or scripture. John states that if they deny the elementary principles of Christ, his coming in the flesh, then they are of the spirit of the anti-Christ. The world today encourters many spirits and voices urging them to go one way or another. Among those voices is God urging us to take up our cross and follow Him. We have given our lectureship series the title of “That You May Know” due to John’s usage of the phrase and how, by reading the biblical text, we can discern what is of God and what is of the world.

Spiritual Life on Campus

CRC is dedicated to promoting a healthy spiritual life in every student. Aside from offering courses that focus on Bible related areas, CRC also hosts a chapel service for students Monday through Thursday. Chapel is an incorporation of faith into a student’s daily routine and serves as a spiritual rest amidst the demands of college life.

Students can also participate in The Ridge Connection, an on-site campus ministry house which aims to engage students to dig deeper in their faith and experience an authentic Christfilled community.

Numerous opportunities are provided throughout the school year to help students be more intentional in their faith, such as Project Reachout (an annual day of service), weekly Bible studies, student-led small groups, Thursday night devotionals, and a Fall Retreat.
