Message From The Chair Despite the appalling weather at the 2014 Wembdon Village Day that resulted in substantial financial losses for the Wembdon Community Association the WCA members have refused to become disheartened and have battled on with tremendous support from the local community resulting in a good number of successful events over the past few months. In October the Senior Citizens were treated to a fun afternoon of Free Prize Bingo followed by light refreshments and a raffle. This was thoroughly enjoyed by all who attended. Later that month we were treated to the Annual Spectacular Firework Display that was very well supported on a clear and dry evening by the local community who's gasps and shouts of joy were evidence that the evening was enjoyed by all. Despite the high cost of this professionally fired event of over ÂŁ2100.00 a small profit was achieved for only the second time on record confirming it as a great success. On the evening of Friday 19th December the WCA joined forces with Wembdon St.George's Church in organising "Carol Singing in the Village", an opportunity to share the spirit of Christmas around the community. A joyful and very vocal group of all ages shared their tuneful melodies commencing in Greenacre, stopping off at Chatham House and Inwood Estate before making their way up the hill, stopping off for more carols at "The Keltings" and finishing the evening with carols and much welcomed punch at The Cottage Inn. A very enjoyable evening that was supported by a large number from the village and accompanied by talented local musicians. On Saturday 10th January our Senior Citizens were treated to their Annual Christmas Lunch at the Parish Centre. A substantial three course lunch was served whilst the wine waiters of the WCA served wine and soft drinks to their worthy guests. With Christmas music playing in the background the guests enjoyed a wholesome and delightful meal with all of the Christmas trimmings whilst catching up with their friends and neighbours. Thanks must go to the Trustees of the Sir Bartholomew Mitchell's Charity who kindly donated ÂŁ200 towards the cost of this year's event. Needless to say, after the wine and festivities everyone left the hall with a smile on their face. Then followed a very successful Quiz Night, enjoyed by eighteen teams, delving into the grey matter to become 2015 WCA Quiz Champions These events would not be possible without the support of the village and the hard work put in by the members of the WCA. Over the past year we have been lucky enough to recruit a number of new hard working members to whom we are very grateful for their input and new ideas. However, we have also lost valued and dedicated members through bereavement and relocation. We are always looking for new ideas and new members so if you have a bit of time on your hands and would like to help your local community through fund raising and community events please do not be afraid to come forward by contacting one of our committee members, even if only to share ideas. Best Wishes, Helen Peregrine-Wheller (Chair) 3
